The lawmaker representing Ibadan Southwest Constituency II at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Oluwafemi Fowokanmi has called for urgent rehabilitation of damaged Oluyole Estate Bridge.
According to the motion sponsored by the lawmaker as highlighted below:
AN APPEAL TO THE EXECUTIVE ARM OF GOVERNMENT FOR URGENT REHABILITATION OF THE DAMAGED OLUYOLE ESTATE BRIDGE EXPANSION
“Notes that Oluyole Estate serves both industrial and residential purpose within Ibadan city, it is a renewed middle-income neighborhood located in Ibadan South West Local Government Area of Oyo State. The area is bordered by Apata in the North, Elebu in the South West, Challenge in the South East, and lyaganku in the East. These listed areas harbor different notable citizens of our dear State and many from other States in Nigeria. This city is also a mixed use city which is mainly consisting large industrial area. The industrial market in Oluyole is approximately 351,000sqm (the largest in Ibadan city).
“Further Notes on that this is the only bridge which serves the residents and motorists plying Mobil Ring-Road to Oluyole estate extension road is presently in need of the urgent attention of the Government to fix all the damaged bridge expansion joints which has totally removed from the bridge, leading to serious traffic gridlock in the area, especially in the peak hours in the morning when residents are going to work and in the evening when they are returning home. Residents/motorists could spend nothing less than two hours in the axis due to the traffic gridlock being caused by the slowing down of the movement of vehicles as a result of the bad bridge expansion joints and the case has seriously escalated after the resumption of the academic activities, because there are numerous public and private schools domiciled in the axis.
“Aware that this bridge was constructed by the immediate past administration in the year 2016.However, the residents and motorists of Oluyole estate extension came to my Office in great numbers being their representative in this Government, appealing to me to use my able office call on Oyo State Government for the repair/fixing of the damaged bridge extension joints as a matter of urgency.
“Further Aware that the alternative road, Mobil 7up Sumal road which the residents/motorists in this area ought to plight to escape the said gridlock is also in a more terrible condition that is not advisable for any motorists to ply at the moment, which also diverted most of the trucks carrying the raw materials to various industries in the axis to also join light vehicles to plight the single Oluyole extension Aare road which worsen the traffic gridlocks in the area.
“Concerned that there has been a Motion raised by myself in this Honourable House that appealed for urgent Government intervention to fix the deplorable Mobil 7up/Sumal Road in Oluyole Estate Ibadan” but nothing has been done on the road till date despite that the road serves the largest industrial hubs in Ibadan city. However it is noted that too numerous are the road fixing demands on the table of the government with very limited resources to meet up those demands, our people in Oluyole Estate are appealing to the the Executive Arm of Government under the able leadership of our visionary and masses minded Governor Seyi Makinde to see the need to fix the deplorable Mobil 7up/Sumal Road in Oluyole Estate Ibadan as one of the priorities of the Government due to its links to the biggest industrial hub in Ibadan city.
Resolve to:
(i) urge the Executive Arm of Government through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to urgently rehabilitate Oluyole Estate bridge expansion to safe the bridge from total collapse. (ii) urge Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) to carry out urgent palliative work on the alternative road to Oluyole Estate extension which is Mobil 7up/Sumal Road to reduce the vehicular movement concentration on the Oluyole extension/Aare Road;
(iii) urge the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to give situation report on the Mobil 7up/Sumal road;
(iv) urge this Honourable House to direct Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA) to station some of their men at the Obasanjo farm junction close to the damaged bridge to control the motorist, to ease the traffic gridlocks in the axis at the peak hours of the day”.
Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji on Monday presided over the swearing-in of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dayo Apata (SAN), with a charge to them to develop new socio political skills and emotional intelligence to cope with the pressure associated with their respective offices.
The Governor who said the two officials were appointed based on their rich credentials and experiences, restated his promise to get very competent Ekiti indigenes wherever they are to man strategic positions in his administration.
He also debunked insinuations in some quarters that he was under pressure by the immediate past Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi , his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi and former Deputy Governor to appoint their cronies into his cabinet.
Oyebanji said he had promised the people of the state that members of his cabinet would be the best set of individuals that would assist him in managing the affairs of Ekiti in a manner that would bring about the fulfilment of his electoral promises to the people of the State.
According to him, “While I recognize the right of people to freedom of expression, I also have the right to respond to the fake news being circulated on social media. Having listened to the CVs of the two appointees, you will discover that they got this job clearly on merit. My promise to Ekiti people is that I am going to look for the best anywhere to help me run Ekiti and that is what we are going to do.
“We are not going to be distracted as long as we are doing what is right in the interest of our people. But, I need to put it on record that neither the former Governor nor his wife, nor the former deputy Governor has put any pressure on me to appoint anybody. But if I have to go back to his former cabinet and appoint relevant people that can assist me , I will go and pick them.”
Expressing confidence in the professionalism and competence of Dr Adubiaro to serve in the capacity of Secretary to the State Government, Governor Oyebanji stated that her appointment was in consonance with his administration’s commitment to gender balance, affirmative action and equity.
The Governor further charged the duo to develop a robust policy engagement platform where policy stakeholders can learn, interact, engage, review and evaluate government plans and programme from time to time to achieve the overall objectives of his administration.
“As you assume office, you need to learn fast on the job and familiarize yourself with the function of your respective offices, you must also acquaint yourself with the manifestoes that earn us the mandate of the good people of Ekiti State and to understand the direction of policies and programmes of this administration.
“Similarly you must pay attention to the political environment under which we operate and apprise yourself to its uniqueness and idiosyncrasies. As top government functionaries, you will expectedly come under intense pressure. You, however, need to develop the right socio political skills and emotional intelligence to manage pressure with firmness and magnanimity.”
Responding on behalf of the duo, Apata assured the Governor that they would live a life of dedication, commitment, integrity, loyalty in discharging their responsibilities.
Expressing gratitude to the Governor for the appointment, Barrister Apata said they would key into the vision and mission of his administration and also add value to the progress of the State.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye; Ekiti State First lady, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji; Deputy Speaker, House of Assembly, Hon Hakeem Jamiu; traditional rulers led by the Chairman, Ekiti State Traditional Council and Onisan of Isan Ekiti, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon; Wife of Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Eyesorun Abosede Adejugbe; Ekiti State Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Barr Paul Omotosho, Permanent Secretaries, top Government Functionaries, clerics, among others.
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, a former Deputy National Chairman, Bode George, has backed the call for the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
George faulted the resolution of the Acting PDP’s Board of Trustees, BoT, chairman, Adolphus Wabara-led reconciliation committee.
The Wabara-led PDP BoT, in its report submitted to the party, recommended that the National Chairman, Iyorhcia Ayu, should resign after the 2023 general elections.
The committee also urged Ayu to assure members that he would step down after the polls.
Some PDP governors like Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State have been calling for Ayu’s resignation.
They argued that PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the National Chairman can’t come from the same region.
However, while appearing on Channels Television’s Programme, Sunday Politics, George wondered why the PDP chairman should be a judge in his own case.
He said: “The board of trustees met, and we are told by one group that what they recommended was not what the acting board of trustees chairman said on the day they presented the report. So what is going on? For example, I wasn’t invited to the meeting. I am a life member of the board of trustees. We were not there.
“And the shocking part of it, when I saw it on television, I saw that Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the party, who was the centre of the issue, was sitting as a judge in his own case. Does that make any judicial sense? You are discussing him; he is sitting as if he was the one moderating. That is not the way things are done. I don’t know what the factual analysis is. All we were told was that Ayu made a promise and he must honour his promise.
“On that day, we were told again that was not what was said. What was said was that Ayu should make a promise that when the elections are over, he will leave, that he will make that promise. My goodness, time is of the essence. Nobody is going to wait for us.”

A one-time People Democratic Party, (PDP)South West zonal secretary, and the newly Inaugurated Chairman Committee for the swearing-in of Senator Ademola Adeleke, Osun Governor-Elect, Rev Bunmi Jenyo, has advised Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to accept defeat of the July 16 governorship election.
Jenyo urged Governor Oyetola to toe the line of the ex-governor of the state, Chief Bisi Akande who he said accepted defeat in 2003 election.
Chief Bisi Akande, who sought reelection in 2003 on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy, (AD) accepted the defeat when he lost to Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola of the People Democratic Party, (PDP).
Speaking shortly after his Inauguration as the Chairman Committee for the swearing-in of the Governor Elect, Sen. Ademola Adeleke at Party secretariat in Osogbo, Osun state, Jenyo said Governor Gboyega Oyetola should be courageous enough to conceed defeat.
According to party chieftain, “The incumbent government doesn’t have a choice, this is statutory. I keep saying it to people when they said they are not cooperating, they have no choice than to cooperate. When Fayemi suppose to leave in Ekiti he left and inauguration was done, swearing in was done, same thing is going to happen here in Osun state.
The incumbent government are not facing reality. They should toe the line of Chief Bisi Akande. When he lost, instantly he gave up, but having said that, the statutory will compel them to handover to Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke” Jenyo said.
Speaking, after the inauguration of the inauguration ceremony of the Osun Governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke on November 27, the Osun PDP Caretaker Chairman, Adekunle Akindele, charged the 13 member committee management team with different sub-committees, to ensure that the inuaguration is superb and the best in the country.
Akindele said every citizen of the state, especially members of the party would participate in the celebration, adding that as the inuaguration would be going on in the capital city, members and supporters across all the local councils would also be in the mood of celebration.
Akindele said, “The task before me is to inuagurate the committee that will usher in our governor. I want to charge the committee to ensure that the inuaguration is superb. I want stakeholders present to know, that outside Osun, a lot of people are anxious to see what will happen on that day. Many people have been asking for our preparedness for that day.”
For this inauguration, the celebration starts from now. We are just underestimating our strength in Osun. We are in millions. Decision like this, sometimes, it’s not possible to bring everyone on board, we have to streamline it to make sure that few people are brought on board. Whatever we want to do at the party level, we make sure we reach out to members at the local councils. We want to make sure that the whole state are involved across board. We have created a platform for the celebration to take place at various local government.
“Hence, we have local government inuaguration committee. You can make some addition in your local government, but, whatever you do must be approved by the chairman of the committee for the purpose of budgeting.
“Give us the most memorable swearing-in in the history of the state and in Nigeria,” he said.
Akindele warned members of the party against indiscipline, saying, “we need to instill discipline in the party. Discipline is key. We are able to achieve what we are able to achieve because the leadership of the party instilled discipline. The party won’t shy away from sanctioning any member who derails from the core values of the party.”
CityMirrorNews reports that management committee is chaired by Bunni Jenyo while the secretary is Hashim Abioye.
Other members of the committee included Chief Mrs Dupe Adeleke, Sunday Bisi as Chairman, venue and accomodation; Diran Odeyemi, Chairman Media, Publicity and Entertainment, Lere Oyewumi, chairman, Budget and Procurement, Kazeem Akinleye, Chairman, Security, Muyiwa Oladimeji, Chairman Medical, Bamidele Salam, chairman, liason and Niyi Owolabi among others.
