Attack On Jandor’s Convoy Condemnable, Efforts Ongoing To Fish Out Perpetrators – Lagos Govt

The Lagos State government on Saturday said security agencies will find and prosecute the hoodlums who attacked the convoy of Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the coming 2023 election in the state.

In a statement by Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, the government said it was “shocked” by the video of a group of thugs shooting in broad daylight in Surulere.

Three persons were reportedly killed, while others sustained various degree of injuries when supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and the PDP engaged in violent clash during the Jandor’s political campaign in Surulere area of Lagos State on Friday.

But the Lagos government said the hoodlums are “henchmen of the PDP”.

“Security agencies are investigating the video, which has gone viral on the social media. We believe they will fish out and prosecute the evil actors, who are believed to be henchmen of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“We condemn this savagery that has portrayed our state, the safest in Nigeria, in a bad light. That is not who we are; we are civilized and cultured.

“Following advice from competent sources, including elders and respectable Lagosians, we will henceforth shun any forum that may require us being together with PDP and its agents of violence.

“Consequently, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu regrets to announce that he will not be participating at The Platform Governorship Debate of January 29, 2023.

“The Governor holds Pastor Poju Oyemade and the Covenant Christian Church family in high esteem and cherishes future opportunities to engage the congregation and render accounts of his stewardship to them as integral parts of the Lagos electorate.

“We will never be found in the company of those to whom the lives of innocent Lagosians mean nothing. Mr Sanwo-Olu won’t share a podium with them,” the statement by Omotoso reads.

Tinubu Is Suffering From Dementia, Ex-APC Campaign Director, Najatu Muhammed Claims

The human rights activitsts, Najatu Muhammed who resigned from All Progressives Congress APC Campaign Committee has lashed out the presidential candidate of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, calling him mentally derailed person.

Najatu was quoted as saying this while granting an interview in a morning show on AIT.

“Everything about Tinubu is a lie and falsehood and gotten through bribery. He has no honour. Tinubu is an insult to Nigerians. Tinubu allocated questions at Chatham House because he cannot think. I stand by my assertion that Tinubu is mentally deranged.

“Tinubu is senile and mentally deranged. Shettima is a terrorist. Tinubu is unfit to be President and his supporters are after his money. The only manifesto that is somewhat different is that of Labour Party’s @PeterObi.”

The APC govs sidelined Osinbajo because he could not share money. And let me tell you, I know our delegates from Kano. I can tell you that each ballot box , the name of Tinubu was put on it and all you are paid to do is to go and put it in the box.”, said Najatu.

Naira Notes Swap: NLC urges CBN to review policy

The Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has been urged by leaders of Nigerian Labour Congress to reconsider its decision on the deadline for the change of old currency to new noted as fixed for 31st of January, 2023.

The NLC in a press statement made available to newsmen by Comr. Amechi Asugwuni, the Deputy President of the union as read in part:

“It has been widely reported that the new momentary policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria to terminate the use of old currency note in Nigeria come 31st January 2023, is still a strange news to Nigerians in the rural areas, especially the petty traders and farmers.

“This has made compliance impracticable in those areas and would constitute a serious threat to their living standards.

“The CBN Governor should as a matter of professionalism and sense of responsibility be reminded that there are some LGAs in Nigeria that do not have a single bank in operation and as such making it almost impossible for a farmer to transport to the state capital for banking transactions considering the high cost of transportation, illiteracy, and lack of social exposure in the rural areas.

“Therefore, it has become imperative for CBN to defer the date, to allow for proper review and broad orientation through community leaders via Traditional Rulers to help inform their subjects of the need to slowly make payments with old currency notes and receive the new currency notes for their transactions going forward.

“Change of currency note policy does not invalidate the old currency note in circulation. As we speak most people in some states have no access to the new currency note, talk more of complying to the daily withdrawal limit. You don’t cut off deposit of old currency note the same day commercial banks are advised to stop the issuance of same old notes.

Let the banks withhold issuance of the old currency notes first and then slowly allow the public to return theirs. Laws are not made to punish the masses but to improve their quality of lives”.

Support Atiku Now Or Forget Your Second Term, Oyo PDP Chieftain Tells Makinde

Elder Wole Oyelese, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, encouraged Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursday to begin openly supporting the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In an interview with journalists in Ibadan, Elder Oyelese stated that it would be unacceptable for Makinde to maintain the party’s governorship ticket while working against the presidential candidate.

The PDP leader asserted, “The bottom line is that Makinde should publicly support Atiku or else, it will be assumed that he has made a statement consistent with what the G-5 governors have been saying, and this is harmful for his second term ambition.

” The former minister said Makinde should fully retrace his steps to where he made it to the top in order to realise his second term ambition, adding the he needs Atiku to win the second term and not the other way round.

“All PDP members in Oyo state, including more than 95% of Mankinde’s appointees have been working for months and will vote for Atiku in the February 25th election. Makinde lacks the capacity to upturn the popular sentiment in Oyo state which is in support of Atiku,” he said.

Oyelese added that, “anyone who is doubting should recall what happened during his flag-off at Mapo when the people were chorusing Atiku’s name in the presence of the G-5 governors. Even Wike was silenced by the crowd of Atiku supporters and the programme came to an abrupt end.

“I see the current situation as an act of treachery when you belong to a political party and you are working against the presidential candidate of that party. It is Seyi that needs Atiku and not Atiku that needs him, because Oyo state people have made up their minds to support Atiku.” The PDP leader emphasised further.

“I can bet it with anybody that even in Gov Makinde’s government, majority of the political appointees, 95 per cent of them are working for Atiku. So, the game is up, he should rescind his decision. A situation where he is campaigning and he is not mentioning Atiku is unacceptable to us.”
