Makinde Elevates Ladoja, 10 Other High Chiefs To Beaded Crown Obas

Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, has approved the promotion of 11 Ibadan High Chiefs to beaded crown Obas.

Recalled that the governor recently signed the Chieftaincy Amendment Bill into law seeking to grant him autonomy to present beaded crowns and coronets to chiefs in the state, following its passage by the state House of Assembly.

The High Chiefs are Balogun of Ibadanland, Owolabi Olakulehin; Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rasheed Ladoja; Otun Balogun, Tajudeen Ajibola; Osi Olubadan, Eddy Oyewole; Osi Balogun, Lateef Adebimpe; Ashipa Olubadan, Biodun Kola-Daisi; Ashipa Balogun, Kola Adegbola; Ekerin Olubadan, Hamidu Ajibade; Ekerin Balogun, Olubunmi Isioye; Ekarun Olubadan; Bayo Akande and Ekarun Balogun, Abiodun Azeez.

An informed government source, who confided in our correspondent, on Wednesday, said the governor had given his consent to the promotion, and the high chiefs will be officially installed as traditional rulers, on Friday, July 7, 2023.

But sometimes, our High Chiefs are regarded as mere chiefs. So, it’s a good decision and the governor has given his consent to that. They will be officially crowned on Friday, July 7, 2023, as stipulated in a letter sent to the governor by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Balogun.”

Dapo Abiodun Hosts Ogun Lawmakers, Pledges Open- Door Policy

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday, met with the newly inaugurated members of the 10th Ogun State House of Assembly, with a promise to operate an open-door policy to all regardless of party affiliations, religion or tribe.

Playing host to the members, who were led by the re-elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, to the Governor’s Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Prince Abiodun reminded them that politics is over, hence the need for all elective officials to join hands to serve the people.

The governor appreciated the members for conducting themselves in an orderly manner during their proclamation and inauguration, noting that it was an indication that the State is peopled by those who know how to resolve their differences amicably.

“Let me deeply appreciate your sense of responsibility, your leadership qualities that has been exhibited by each and everyone of you at this time. This is how we like to be defined as a State. A State that upholds the tenets of democracy, a State that knows how to resolve its problems, a State that resolves its differences peacefully.

“We must remind ourselves that we are the industrial capital of Nigeria. We are the investor’s destination of choice, we are the education and religious capital in Nigeria and we are a State with many firsts.

“By What you have exhibited today, you have enshrined your names in the history book and your footprints in the sand of times. Ogun State is not a crisis riddled State and that is how we like to be defined,” the governor stated.

Prince Abiodun commended those who contested elections and lost, for their magnanimity and ensuring that the proclamation and inauguration was not only peaceful, but rancour free.

He appreciated members of the 9th Assembly for their cooperation and collaboration in the last four years, saying though they are a different arm of government, it was imperative for all arms to cooperatively and collaboratively work together for the successful implementation of the vision mapped out by the executive.

The governor expressed the hope that the 10th Assembly, would build on the foundation laid by the 9th Assembly by legislating on issues that affect the people positively.

“I want to promise you that I will be the governor of all. Elections have been keenly contested and some of us have emerged winners; others were not so lucky but the State remains. We are all here to remain the winner. There is no winner and there is no vanquished. We are all here to represent the people of the State. So politics is now behind us, campaigns are now behind us.

“I am pledging that I will be the governor of all. I will maintain an open door policy to everyone regardless of party affiliations, religion and tribe. I promise to continue to be fair, just and equitable. I promise to support you in the discharge of your legislative duties, which are to pass laws and provide oversights for different sectors of the State,” the governor assured.

While calling for the cooperation of the lawmakers, the State helmsman reminded them of the vision of his administration which is “to provide good governance while creating an enabling environment for a Public Private Partnership which is fundamental to the economic growth of the State and individual prosperity of the people and Building Our Future Together mantra as encapsulated in ISEYA”.

Speaking earlier, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oluomo, said the members came on a courtesy visit to appreciate the governor for his support to the House at all times.

He informed the governor on the peaceful conduct of the proclamation and inauguration of the 10th Assembly, assuring him of their resolve to work as a team by cooperating with the executive for peace and the development of the State.

All the 26 members of the Assembly, including the new Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolanle Ayayi, who is the first woman to occupy that position, were in attendance.

I Have Ended Rift With Tinubu – Bode George

A former deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George has appealed to individuals who are actively opposing the presidency of Ahmad Bola Tinubu. With great fervor, he encouraged them to reconsider their stance.

Criticisms have continued to trail the proposed 7.5% VAT on Premium Motor Spirit PMS and Diesel set to be announced by Federal Government of Nigeria as from tomorrow.

A lot of people have taken to their social media handles to express their displeasure at what they called “draconian policy” being proposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to compound more on the hardship currently experienced by the masses as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy.

A tweep identified as, @bh_undisputed said, “Already buying fuel for almost double the amount I used to buy it under Buhari & I’m hearing bala blu & his fellow crooks are planning to implement a 7.5% VAT on fuel. Nigeria, what exactly is my offense??”.

A tweep identified as @DanieRegha said, “the supposed 7.5% VAT on petrol shouldn’t be a problem for anyone who voted the APC, or have praised Tinubu for doin the barest minimum. Petroleum products will cost more but don’t cry now, since y’all were OK with the situation of things, continue to stand on the APC’s mandate”.

Another tweep, @poefy said, “Which one is 7.5% VAT on petrol again? If I go to filling station and they charge me a higher price I will begin my protest there. Enough!”.

A tweep, @realkingsley said, “7.5% VAT on Fuel and Diesel. They are tighten the nut and bolt of the suffering they inflicted on the citizens. That what happens when a man who don’t know how to create wealth natural is sitting in power”.

Microfinance Bank Manager Commits Suicide In Iseyin Over Loan Default

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that a SAKI Microfinance Bank Manager, aged 41 has committed suicide over unpaid loan.

The Bank Manager, identified as Ogedengbe Sola, indigene of Omu Aran was a Manager of SEAP Micro-Finance Bank at Saki was found dead in his Iseyin home on Wednesday evening.

Sola Ogungbe, a married man was reported to have given loan facilities to some of his customers who failed to pay back to the company’s account.

It was gathered that Sola’s wife was called on Wednesday afternoon by a staff of the company because the former manager had not been reporting at his place of work over the loan default crisis and on getting home to report the call to her husband, met his corpse.

A close friend of the deceased who requested anonymity said that Sola made mistake by taking his life as he supposed to have discussed his problem with his friends.

”The issue of suicide is becoming alarming, Sola made a great mistake by taking his own life because of debt, if he had shared this issue with his friends, maybe somebody would have come to his aid.

”Everyone is going through one thing or the other but our survival is anchored upon a communal living and friendship, tell people about your issues, you don’t even know who can help you,” the friend asserted.

LAW student breaks LASU 40-year history, graduates with perfect 5.0 CGPA

A student of the Faculty of Law at the Lagos State University (LASU), Aminat Imoitesemeh Yusuf, has emerged as the Best Graduating Student for the 2021/2022 academic session with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00, bringing an end to LASU’s 40-year history.

This information was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at a media briefing to herald the 26th convocation ceremony and 40th-anniversary celebration of the institution.

Olatunji-Bello stated that Yusuf’s unparalleled dedication and unyielding pursuit of excellence earned her the coveted honour, which would be accompanied by a N500,000 cash prize from the University Management.

She explained that while Ms Yusuf tops the first-class graduates for the 2021/2022 academic session, Feyisayo Lopez from the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine emerged as the best for the 2020/2021 session with a 4.91 CGPA.

Sunday Adeleke, popularly known as Sung Gav, has revealed that after extended consultation with regards the leadership of the Ibadan South-West local government of various political associations, groups and personalities resulted in his submission to God’s will to contest as the people’s voices matter in the political decision of any democratic society.

Adeleke said this on Wednesday, when his intentions were made known to the members of People’s Democratic Party of Ward 8, Oke-Bola axis of the local government, that bowing to the people’s pressure is the motivating drive in this new political dispensation under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde.

He said, “I never knew that my political contributions at the grassroots level are noted by some concerned citizens, and my escapades especially at the educational front remain my topmost priority. It is a custom to always secure JAMB forms for intending university students. Considering the unparalleled success of our governor in the educational sector, I would like to compliment the giant strides at the local government level as a need to change the narratives of our children for the 21st century requirement.

“When I was called upon by our leader, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, to evaluate my proficiency as a leader it was surprising when he mentioned the construction of the bridge I singlehandedly built at Apata without holding any political position.

He also noted that, “The local government comprises of twelve (12) wards, and my ward is just one (1) out of the majority but I can tell categorically that under this political atmosphere my spheres of influence cut across boards. I appreciate the people’s opinion about me, and based on this standard I have no choice to allow my antecedents to speak for me.

“It wasn’t my political choice to contest for any position, as I assumed that the time isn’t right now but I have no other choice than to bow to the demands of people with full assurance that Ibadan South West under the collective responsibilities of everyone must outshine all the thirty-three (33) local governments of the state”.

Gbajabiamila Resigns as House of Reps Member,

Femi Gbajabiamila has resigned his membership of the 10th house of representatives.

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, read Gbajabiamila’s letter of resignation during plenary on Wednesday.

Gbajabiamila said his resignation is to enable him assume the role of chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu.

Gbajabiamila in his resignation note was quoted as thus, “to the glory of God, I resigned my membership of the newly Inaugurated 10th House of Representatives today. I had the privilege to move the first motion in the new House which was on the need to prepare to avert the negative effects of the forecast of heavy flooding in some parts of the country. The House passed the resolutions accordingly. Thereafter, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read my resignation letter and declared my seat vacant. An opportunity for the people of Surulere 1 Federal Constituency to elect my replacement.

“I have assumed my new office as the Chief of Staff to the President in readiness to work with Mr. President in delivering his Renewed Hope agenda for Nigeria”.
