Oduduwa News has gathered that an unidentified man was set ablaze at Cele District in Oyo Town, Oyo State.
The horrific incident allegedly occurred on Thursday at around 8:00 p.m when the victim was alleged of stealing of “okada” motorcycle.
According to one of the eyewitnesses who spoke to Oduduwa News under the condition of annonymity claimed that the victim was not given fair hearing as he was descended on immediately by the irate youths.
The man according to the eyewitness was dragged on the floor and several harmful objects were hurled on him before finally set on fire.
Another eyewitness (name withheld) also expressed his displeasure about how people frequently violate the law without the government’s permission.

“I’m here in my capacity as Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, not Minister of Interior, and I will expect to be quoted as that. I came here because of my personal relationship with Semiu. The topic he has chosen to celebrate at this One-Day Dialogue on the 12th anniversary of his publication, is very apt. All the erudite scholars who spoke have done adequate academic justice to the topic.
“When I was governor in Osun, I created a government department called the Bureau of Social Services with the acronym BOSS, to track government programmes, projects and interventions. Also, I had a Policy and Economic Team (PET) to track projects and initiatives of my office. I also engaged private social, political and economic consultants to do the performance monitoring and perception review. However, beyond the tracking of these project, what we should be doing is tracking of productivity.
“Before we can track productivity, we must mobilize Nigerians for productivity. I heard some speakers talking about tracking the productivity of all tiers of government, particularly, the local government and I ask myself, is local council a tier of government in a federation? Examples abound world over of countries that practice federal system like ours. In Australia, Germany, the United States and many others, there are only two tiers in a federal system which is usually the central and the regional governments. The local government is not one of them. Unfortunately, here, local governments, though closest to the people, but are dependent on the federation account for funding. But they should really have no business waiting from handouts every month from the central government.
“The Local Councils must generate revenue to drive development at that level. No local government will be accountable with handouts. Charity doesn’t make people responsible. The people of a locality must fund their local government. When this is done, they will be apt to exact responsibility and accountability from that government. People can hardly hold a government accountable, whose funding they are not responsible for. This applies to state governments too.
“That is why the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is investing rightly in infrastructure so Nigerians can be mobilized for productivity. With his promise to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, if half of that number can be mobilized for productivity through the different initiatives the government is championing, Nigeria will in no time be competing with the first world nations,” the Minister stated.
Speaking earlier, former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, revealed that whilst in office, he had a very efficient Monitoring and Evaluating Unit that tracked all government projects, but stated that according to the topic of the day’s dialogue, sometimes politicians cannot fulfil their campaign promises due to factors totally out of their control.

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, CON on Friday inaugurated a new Refrigerated Van for the use of meat dealers under the auspices of Butchers Association in the state.
Governor Akeredolu handed-over the new Refrigerated Van to the Chairman of the Butcher Association at the Governor’s Park, Governor’s Office, Akure.
The Van was donated by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in conjunction with Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
The donated Refrigerated Van is part of the modern meat haulage protocols for hygiene, distribution and delivery of refrigerated meat in the country.
Governor Akeredolu informed the people that the Van was donated by the Federal Government through the State.
He disclosed that there were conditions that were met by the State before the Van was released by the Federal Government.
The Governor commended the Federal Government for its numerous efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians.
According to Governor Akeredolu, the APC-led Federal Government has made remarkable marks and blazed the trail in its various developmental efforts.
He said:”We will continue to thank the Federal Government for its efforts. This APC-led Federal Government has blazed the trial in many areas.
“Look at the railway, we have never had this developed railway before. The Second Niger-Bridge, this APC -led Federal Government saw that to fruition.
“This School Feeding program under the APC-led Federal Government is also very laudable. It has never happened before. It is very beneficial to all. The School Feeding program has afforded our children to take nutritious meals in School. It helps their growth.”
The Governor thanked the Butchers’ Association for their support and cooperation in the State, adding that their consistency over the years is commendable.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public and Inter-governmental Relations, Mrs Bunmi Ademosu noted that the Governor had earlier donated a bus to the Association.
She revealed that the Butchers’ Association in the State has been helping with the distribution of meats for the School Feeding program across the Local Government Areas.
“This has come now from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in conjunction with Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to enable the Butchers have their meats distributed freshly and well preserved.
“This, they have received from the Federal Government through the State and it is in recognition of what you (Governor Akeredolu) have done for them. They are one of the luckiest ones to have it.” She said.
The Chairman of the Butchers Association in the State, Mr. Sikiru Ayinde admitted that it is the first time the Association would enjoy government presence in the State.
He thanked the Governor for his support, while assuring that members of the Association will always show appreciation by voting massively for the APC at all elections.
ODUDUWA NEWS gathered last night that a Catholic Priest, Fr Michael Olofinlade of Ekiti Diocese had been abducted by gunmen.
He was to have been kidnapped while returning from the funeral Reverend Father Ilori in Ado Ekiti.
The kidnapping and banditry cases have become a subject of debate in the state as numerous citizens of Ekiti have become victims of the agent of darkness
In the meantime, it has been confirmed that in the early hours of today, in the Rectory at Kaffi in Minna Diocese, gunmen killed a catholic priest, Fr Isaac Achi and critically wounded his assistant Fr Collins.
As at the time of filing this report, no official statement has been made by the Police on the abduction of the Catholic priest in Ekiti and no communication has been made by the kidnappers on ransom payment.
The Oyo State Police Commissioner, Adebowale Williams has ordered that the case of the death of a Dispatch Rider with Jumia Online Shopping, Godwin Agbo be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
ODUDUWA NEWS recalls that the family of the deceased had on Monday appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Adebowale Williams not to allow the killer of their kinsman go unpunished.
It was gathered that late Agbo was riding his motorcycle when he was knocked down by a private car Friday night around Forte Oil at Ring Road Ibadan.
The Commissioner of Police has, however, ordered that the case be transferred to the homicide section of the SCID.
The commissioner made this disclosure via a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Adewale Osifeso.
Osifeso in the statement on Friday, also disclosed that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of diligent investigations.
He explained that the case was first reported at Oluyole Divisional Police Headquarters and later transferred to Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters on grounds of jurisdictional competence.
Osifeso said, “On Friday, 06/01/2023 at about 2030hrs, One Agbo Emmanuel (Brother to the Deceased) reported a case of a fatal motor accident involving his younger brother, one Agbo Godwin ‘m’ aged 32yrs (Now Deceased) and Adeoye Adekunle ‘m’ age 37yrs who ran over his Brother with his LEXUS SUV with REG.NO EKY 337 EL along High Court/Ring road after an argument had earlier ensued between them.
“Overwhelmed with rage, the Suspect, Adeoye Adekunle charged, chased and eventually knocked the deceased to death along Ring-Road axis, Ibadan.
“Consequential to Scientific findings and other forensic evidence gathered, the commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Adebowale Williams has since ordered that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
“The Suspect would be charged to court upon completion of diligent investigations. Further developments will be communicated accordingly, please”.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has reacted on the recent arrest of the former Director-General of Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Doyin Okupe.
The commission in a statement made available via his official Twitter account disclosed that it is ready to release Doyin Okupe because it is already in the process of formalizing the lifting of the watchlist.

“”The Department of State Services, DSS, today, January 12, informed the Commission of the interception of Dr. Doyin Okupe, former presidential adviser, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
“The Service acted on a Watch-list request issued on July 18, 2016, over six years before his recent conviction on money laundering charges by the Federal High Court, Abuja.
“The Commission was in the process of formally lifting the watch-list before his interception and will expedite action in this regard”.
The Lagos State Police Command has punished officers captured in a video assaulting a lady after seizing her phone at Ilasan area of Lekki Phase 1.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this via his Twitter page while reacting to the video.
A tweep, @Austynzogs, on Tuesday shared a video of the lady being manhandled by two policemen, demanding if she had been released by the police after the altercation.
The tweep wrote in the caption,”Last week, police men guarding the palace at Ilasan, Lekki Phase 1, allegedly assaulted a lady for attempting to record them during a confrontation with a Uber driver.”
Tagging Hundeyin and the Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to the tweet,the tweep asked, “The lady’s phone was seized and she was also arrested. Has she been freed?”
Responding to the tweet, Hundeyin noted that the Ilasan Divisional Police Officer intervened in the case and ensured the lady retrieved her phone.
He also stated that the officers involved had been subjected to disciplinary actions.
Hundeyin tweeted, “The DPO Ilasan waded in, ensured she got her phone back immediately, and subjected the officers to disciplinary actions.
“The lady claimed she was injured, for which the officer was mandated to offset her medical expense.
“The lady went home happy. I equally verified from her.”
The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday, visited the burnt shasha market in Ikere Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area, promising supports for traders, who lost their valuables to the inferno that engulfed a section of the market, on Saturday.
Oyebanji, who lamented how multi-million naira wares and other structures, had been razed down, urged traders across the state to be conscious of their actions during this dry season period to avert calamity.
A section of the market located between Ado-Ikere road, was around 4pm, on Saturday, gutted by fire, with property worth millions of naira destroyed in the evening inferno.
Visiting the market alongside members of the State Executive Council, yesterday, Oyebanji assured the Hausa and Yoruba traders that were affected of support to recover their losses.
The Governor’s delegation, led by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, pledged that the state government will carry out some restructuring in the market, by replacing some thatch-roofed and other old structures with modern ones.
The governor added that officers and staff of the Ministry of Trade and Investment will be visiting the market to enumerate the the number of victims and take other vital information to provide proper and relevant intervention guide.
In line with the promise made to the traders during the electioneering campaign, the governor, said the road leading to the market from the Ado-Ikere-Akure road will be graded to ease transportation along the axis.
“Governor Biodun Oyebanji sympathise with you on the losses you suffered , but let us be cautious in all our dealings this time because dry season is around now.
“We thank God that no life was lost. We can still make up for those things we have lost through personal efforts and government’s intervention. But if anyone had died, it is irreversible.
“Let us be careful. We never knew the generating set that caused the incident would spark up fire. We thank God that the person who caused the arson also owned up that he was responsible for it. But government won’t punish him because it was not intentional.
“The government will surely give support for the fact our Governor wants everybody plying his trade in Ekiti to be happy and prosperous, not minding where you came from.
“We will provide roads and other facilities that will guarantee safety and good life here. I also appeal to traders to cooperate with the leadership of Traders’ Association for the maintenance of some of the facilities they provided.
“People shouldn’t resist payment of little rates to maintain them because government can’t do it alone, we need your support”.
Recounting how the incident happened, the Chairman of Traders’ Association in the market, Alhaji Adamu Abdulhameed, said the fire surged around 4pm from a generating set and spread to other adjoining shops, including a cold room and razed them down.
He said; “We tried our best to quench the fire. We were in the mosque when it started, but the fire was beyond our control.
“The severity of the fire incident wouldn’t have got to this level if we have a fire service station here that could have responded swiftly and in a better manner”.
In similar fashion, the Iyaloja of Shasha Market, Chief (Mrs) Feyisayo Ayajo, made a passionate appeal to the government to establish a Fire Service Station in the market to always respond to any arson incident timeously.
“This market is big and viable enough to a fire service station. We plead with the Governor to kindly look at this demand and act appropriately to our request. Losing our property to fire can cripple our businesses and render us economically unviable”.
ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that an hotelier identified as Dr. Dejo Ajuwon who is the founder of Nice Hotel in Iseyin has been kidnapped on Wednesday while working on his farm along Serafu, Moniya-Iseyin road.
Recall, Iseyin and other towns in Oke-Ogun region of Oyo State have been in the news for sometime over incessant spate of kidnapping and banditry attacks usually recorded in that axis.
It was learnt that the recent incident of kidnapping was the second of its kind to occur in the Serafu village in the past few weeks. In early December, a friend of a local farm owner was also reportedly abducted, and the ransom of Two Million Naira said to have been paid to regain his freedom.
After retiring from active civil service, Mr. Ajuwon moved back to his hometown in Iseyin to start his agricultural and hospitality businesses, which he has been operating for about ten years.
ODUDUWA NEWS learnt that before the recent incident, the residents of Iseyin had earlier alerted the security agencies on the need to comb the forests nearby “Serafu” village and the farm settlements in that axis to gather intelligence on the operational tactics of some of the kidnappers who continuously terrorize the community.
As at the time of filing this report, the kidnappers have not reached out to the family of the abducted hotelier on any ransom.

The embattled Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho), has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to order Amotekun to produce a young man, who disappeared since last week in Ibadan or face a large-scale protest.
Igboho issued the ultimatum on his Instagram handle @sunday_igboho1 yesterday.
The young man, simply identified as Bobola, disappeared on December 30, last year after Amotekun personnel allegedly stormed a house in Apata in response to a distress call.
Four young men who were inside the house at the time of security operatives’ arrival were said to have fled on sighting them. The family alleged that the Amotekun personnel shot at the fleeing men as they pursued them.
The family further alleged that after the dust settled, only three men returned, adding that Bobola had not been seen since then.
Martins Oreoluwa Obong, who claimed to be Bobola’s brother, wrote to the Oyo Police Command on Instagram:
“On Friday 30th of December, 2022, Amotekun broke into my younger brother’s house in Apata, Ibadan and since then we have not seen him…”
