The Arole Oodua and Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II has called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to waste no time in tackling the challenges confronting the country as a man of action that he is known to be.
Ooni Ogunwusi made the call through his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare in a press statement on Monday, congratulating Tinubu on his inauguration as Nigeria’s President And Commander in Chief Of The Armed Forces, adding that capable Nigerian youths should be engaged by his administration as the country deserves its rightful position within the committee of nations globally.
“Mr President, congratulations from The House of Oduduwa to you and your amiable wife who is now the mother of the nation as you have officially taken the mantle of leadership as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“As we celebrate this remarkable day of your inauguration with you, we wish you monumental success in all the policies of your administration so that Nigeria can become great again and maintain her rightful position not only as truly the giant of Africa but also as a leader within the committee of nations globally.
“We trust that your administration will be marked by good governance characterized by transformational economic growth, adequate security, and progress for all Nigerians both at home and in diaspora.
“We also trust that you will leverage your wealth of experience as a man of progressive action in mobilising resources and managing diverse interests to unify Nigeria across political, ethnic and religious lines”. Ooni said.
The Ooni who doubles as Co-chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) charged president Tinubu to carry the Nigeria traditional institution along, especially in tackling the security challenges in the country.
“The traditional rulers in this country are the closest to the people as there is nobody in Nigeria who is not a subject of a particular traditional ruler, this is why it is important for the government to empower us with more strategic constitutional roles especially in the area of security management and conflict resolutions.” Ooni said.
In working for Africa, the Ooni urged President Tinubu to partner the progressive African leaders and friends of Africa across the globe like President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio LULA da Silva, who recently hosted the Ooni and his team in Brasilia, Brazil for the unveiling Annual African Traditional Religion Day celebrations.
“As truly the giant of Africa, Nigeria must first of all be great for Nigerians under your watch, and Nigeria must provide progressive leadership of unity and peace for the greatness of Africa under your watch. I have interacted with some African presidents who are truly looking up to Nigeria under your watch as the big brother Africa. This of course dominated our discussions during the my meeting with President Williams Ruto at the State House in Nairobi, Kenya two months ago.
“Also, the current government in Brazil under President Luiz Inácio LULA da Silva has developed numerous pro Africa policies and programmes. I expect the presidency of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who himself a Pan-Africanist to take advantage of this for the greatness of Africa.” Ooni added..
It will be recalled, Ooni Ogunwusi who is the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide had earlier 3 months ago charged Tinubu upon his declaration as president elect to hit the ground running by quickly assembling a transition team of cerebral individuals to put up an economic blueprint capable liberating Nigerians from poverty and insecurity.
Traditional religion adherents have called for the adoption of Ogun, the god of iron, to swear in all elective and appointed office holders in Nigeria rather than Bible and Qur’an in order to curb the misappropriation of public funds.
They made this call during a press conference held at Osemeji Temple in Ibadan, Oyo State, to herald the 2023 world annual Ifa festival.
Speaking through Jagunmolu Awo Agbaye, Fayemi Fakayode, said, “We have contributed and are still contributing to the development of our nation. The problem we are facing in Nigeria is our people at the helm of affairs because they are not honest, and that’s what is affecting us.
If we can decide to be swearing in political office holders, either elective or appointed officers, in traditional ways or through the god of iron, things will be better and they will stop embezzling our money because they know the immediate consequence of their action. Even in the judiciary, the judges too will give fair hearing and judgement.”
Others, who spoke, included the Araba (Olu Isese) Agbaye, His Eminence, Awodotun Aworeni; Araba/Olu Isese of Ibadanland, High Chief Ifalare Odegbola; Araba/Oluwo of Oyo, High Chief Faleye Kusaanu and Araba of Oka Akoko of Ondo State, Chief Adewale Oso.
While urging the federal, state and local governments to give them the same honour as accorded Muslims and Christians, the traditionalists argued that ‘‘they were entitled to all the things the other two religions enjoy in Nigeria.’’

Parading the suspects before newsmen on Thursday, May 25, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects were the slain couple’s former driver, Wale Adeyemo, and his accomplice, Kingsley Chibueze. He said Adeyemo resigned as the couple’s driver during the naira scarcity period and was paid off. The PPRO said after squandering the money in less than two weeks, Adeyemo approached 26-year-old Chibueze and conspired with him to attack the couple.
“You will recall that on “March 19, 2023, in Ikeja, an elderly couple were m¥rdered in their house and the m¥rderers stole lots of valuables, phones, and money. We were yet to ascertain the exact amounts they stole but they are in dollars and naira. Based on our intelligence and our investigation, we have been able to arrest Wale Adeyemo and Kingsley Chibueze.
Wale was the driver of the couple, and during the cash crunch, the driver approached the elderly couple and requested to be paid off, he said he was no longer interested in working for them. The elderly couple paid him off. But in less than two weeks, he had squandered the money and being an insider who knows their movements and everything about the house, he recruited Kingsley Chibueze and they stormed the couple’s house, murdered them and also attacked the housemaid. From the attack, it was obvious their intent was also to kill her but she survived.”Hundeyin said
