The former Chairman of Itesiwaju Local Government, Hon. Ojo Bolaji Akintola has extended his farewell message to the people of his local government, party faithfuls, the traditional rulers, religious leaders, and the staff of local government for the support shown to him throughout his tenure as the Chairman.
He appreciated Gov Makinde for the opportunity given to him to serve as the Chairman and also expressed his appreciation to the PDP chieftain, Sen. Hosea Agboola Halleluyah for the belief he has him to serve his people.
He used the medium to congratulate the new Chairman, Hon. Ojo Monsur Olayemi over his recent swearing in as the new chairman of the local government. He therefore implored him to ensure that he delivers on the mandate given to him by the people of Itesiwaju Local Government.
In his words, Ojo Akintola was quoted as saying, “I give thanks to Almighty God for making me to see the beginning and the end of the journey as the Chairman of Itesiwaju Local Government.
“I am indebted to the people of Itesiwaju and the party faithfuls who supported me throughout the sojourn.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has doused the palpable tension among the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims by ameliorating the shortfall in their Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) as a result of unexpected vagaries of the foreign exchange rates.
While NAHCON used 1,252.01 per dollar to calculate hajj fare (BTA inclusive) to give 500 USD as BTA to each pilgrim, the CBN released BTA at 1,530.86 per dollar, which gave each pilgrim 415USD instead of 500USD earlier proposed.
Going by this development and in order to give each pilgrim 500USD at the new exchange rate of 1,530.86 per dollar, the differential to be paid for the State 934 pilgrims stood at N119,560,712.70.
In the face of the shorfall therefore, and in an effort to make the 934 State pilgrims perform their hajj rites without stress as well as making them comfortable during the hajj exercise, the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun with dispatch, has intervened by paying BTA differential of the sum of 119,560,712.70 for all the 934 State pilgrims for 2024 Hajj Exercise.
This prompt intervention by the Governor will enable the pilgrims to collect 500USD agreed without blemish and douse every anxiety earlier caused by the sudden increment.
To this end, the Consultant to the Governor on Islamic Affairs, Sheik Iskeel Lawal, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the timely intervention and prayed for the continuous success of the administration.
Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun, has implored the pilgrims to be patriotic and pray fervently for the state in particular and Nigeria at large, adding that the courage and sagacity exhibited by President Bola Tinubu in the quest of changing the ugly narrative of the past require robust spiritual support from all Nigerians.
“As you are going on this special and highly essential spiritual exercise in the holy land, you are expected to pray for the sustainability of this tempo of development and transformation embarked upon by our administration in Ogun State.
“In the same vein, our President, Asiwaju Bola Hammed Tinubu needs your supplications and fervent prayer to continue with his courageous and selfless move towards changing the ugly past for the survival of our nation”, Abiodun averred .
Shaibu Husseini, the Executive Director/CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has announced that the Federal Government has given approval to ban money rituals and the glamorization of vices in Nigerian films.
Husseini made this statement during a National Stakeholders Engagement on Smoke-Free Nollywood, which took place in Enugu on Wednesday, May 22. He emphasized the urgent need for decisive action from parents, guardians, and all stakeholders due to challenges faced by the industry.
He recounted how his predecessor had raised concerns to the former Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, leading to the decision to extend regulations beyond smoking to include displays of money rituals, ritual killings, and glamorization of crimes in Nigerian movies.
Husseini expressed delight in announcing that the Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has approved the Prohibition of Money Rituals, Ritual Killings, Tobacco, Tobacco Products, Nicotine Product Promotion, and Glamorization Display in Movies, Musical Videos, and Skits Regulations 2024, as allowed by the NFVCB Act 2004.
He mentioned that the approved document has been forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Justice for publication in the Gazette. Beyond health concerns, Husseini pointed out the negative impact of glamorizing smoking on young viewers, who make up a significant portion of the Nigerian movie audience.
The NFVCB plans to conduct awareness programs in schools, communities, faith groups, and other institutions to educate the public on the dangers of smoking in films. Husseini emphasized the vital role of the film industry and the need to focus on its advancement, advocating for creative content that discourages smoking and promotes healthy messages.
After consultations, the NFVCB, in collaboration with the CAPPA, decided to create subsidiary regulations to address smoking in movies, an aspect not explicitly covered by existing laws. Husseini assured readiness to lead in this effort and implement innovative strategies to fulfill the board’s mandate.
The Oyo State Chapter of the National Association Of Nigeria Nurses And Midwives has directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike from Tuesday midnight.
NANNM made this position known in a Tuesday correspondence addressed to all its members in the state.
The association noted that the strike action becomes imperative following the non-response of the Oyo State government to its eight-point request.
They said its executive had met earlier on April 30 and later gave a 14-day ultimatum which lapsed today.
Some of their requests include mass recruitment to tackle underemployment, and the adoption and implementation of 25 per cent CONHESS, among others.
The correspondence, titled, “Commencement Of Indefinite Strike By Nurses And Midwives In Oyo State” was co-signed by its state chairman and secretary respectively, Adeyemi Samuel and Aina Emmanuel.
It read, “Sequel to the meeting of the State Executive Council of NANNM held on 30th April 2024 which resolved that State Government should implement the following prayers:
“Mass recruitment of Nurses and Midwives/Nurse Educator into Hospitals Management Board, Primary Health Care Board, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho and Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences Eleyele, Ibadan to address the gross shortage of staff to improve health care delivery in the state;
“Correction of the wrong notional date on the promotion letter issued to our members;
“Adoption and Implementation of 25% CONHESS adjustment Circular for Nurses and Midwives Working with Oyo State Government. NURSE B;
“Financial implementation of 2018 to 2022 promotion for Nurses and Midwives working in LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho;
“Adoption and Implementation of Enhanced Hazard Allowances for Nurses and Midwives Working in LAUTECH. Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho, Oyo State College of Nursing Eleyele-Ibadan, Oyo State College of Health Technology, Eleyele-Ibadan & Primary Health Care Development Board/ LGA;
“Adoption and Implementation of lateral conversion/career progression for Nurses and Midwives on GL12 and above who have possessed degree certificate in Nursing Sciences (BNSC).
“Payment of withheld January/February 2011 salaries to the nurses that are yet to be paid; and
“Payment of uniform allowance to all Nurses and Midwives in the service of Oyo state in line with public services rule.”
The body noted that the circular must be shared with all concerned parties to ensure full compliance.
“With the 14-day ultimatum expiring without a government response, you are directed to begin an indefinite strike from midnight on Tuesday, May 21, 2024,” it concluded.
The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the request of Governor Seyi Makinde to access N10billion loan facility to provide counterpart funding for World Bank Assisted projects/UBEC-SUBEB matching grant.
The approval was sequel to a letter of request sent to the Oyo State House of Assembly by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The letter read by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin on Tuesday indicated that the State counterpart funding was required to facilitate the release of donor funds to Oyo State
According to the letter, World Bank Assisted Projects are meant to complement the drive by the Oyo State Government to improve the welfare of the citizens of the State.
The facility which is to be secured from Fidelity Bank is repayable for a period of 30months.
In their deliberations, some of the lawmakers who spoke on the request expressed concern on the state of the economy across the country which has made life virtually unbearable for citizens.
They therefore appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to continue to give priority to projects and programs that will enhance the living standards of the people.
Former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has told of a purported attempt he made to reconcile ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2023 presidential election that brought the incumbent into office.
Aregbesola was a Commissioner in Lagos while Tinubu held sway as the State governor.
The former Osun governor was also Tinubu’s man Friday until they both fell out on account of the acrimony between Aregbesola and his successor, Adegboye Oyetola, the reigning minister of Marine and Blue Economy, who is the President’s blood relative.
Daniel, currently representing Ogun East in the Senate in an interview with The Nation, said in the build-up to the 2023 presidential election while galvanising support for Tinubu, then All Progressives Congress candidate, he tried to convince Aregbesola to support his former principal.
According to the Senator, “We formed a committee. And Bola Tinubu did not send us. We felt that of all of them, he was the most experienced, he was the most qualified, and he was the most senior.
“It’s not as if some people didn’t also come to me and say, look, OGD, it is you we want to use. And I said ah, no, no, no. Tinubu is running o (laughs) No, forget it! But some of us fell into that kind of temptation.
“There’s none of them I didn’t go to see. We went to Ekiti, we saw Kayode Fayemi. I went and saw Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. I said ‘Ogbeni, what’s wrong with you? Ah! Kilo nsele (what’s going on)?
“Look at me; we both know how…What’s going on? Don’t allow yourself to be used, and all of that.”
Exactly Six years after Mukaila Lamidi, (a.k.a Auxilliary gained freedom from Agodi Correctional Center returned back today, 16 of May, 2024.
An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, has remanded the former Chairman, Park Management System (PMS) in Oyo State, Mukaila Lamidi, (a.k.a Auxiliary) at Agodi Correctional Centre over alleged murder.
This is coming barely 6years after the sacked PMS chairman, Auxiliary gained freedom from the same Agodi prison yard.
Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi ordered the remand of the 63-year-old defendant due to lack of jurisdiction.
Ogunkanmi said the remand was pending the issuance of legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter till July 11, for mention.
The defendant, who was represented by Mr Tope Olayinka, was charged with a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, causing death and stealing.
CSP Funke Fawole, Officer-in-Charge, Legal Department of the Police, Oyo State Command, had earlier told the court that Lamidi and others now at large allegedly conspired to commit the offences.
Fawole said, “On June 16, 2021, at about 3.30 p.m., Lamidi and others now at large allegedly caused the death of one Azeez Rahman Abiodun, 36, by stabbing him with a knife in the chest.
“On June 16, 2021, the defendant and others allegedly conspired and stole assorted phones valued at N150 million, property of Azeez Hammed Adebayo”.
The offences, she said, were committed at Baba-Onilu Shopping Complex, Iwo Road area of Ibadan.
She said the offence was contrary to Sections 383 and 316 and punishable under Sections 319, l1l, 390 (9), 324 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
Rainstorm has caused the roof of Obafemi Awolowo University’s amphitheatre to collapse during a class session, injuring four students.
According to an eyewitness, The Great Ife, who tweets as #IfeCampus, wrote , “There was a whirlwind that collapsed the covering inside Amphi theatre. Four people have been rushed to the hospital as of 8:45am
“The students were rushed to Seventh Day Adventist Hospital but were rejected but have now been taken to OAUTHC, and the VC is already with the injured students at OAUTHC.”
The management of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) has expelled a female student caught in a viral video flogging her colleague.
On Monday, a clip circulated on X which captured the student flogging her colleague with a cane while shouting at her.
In the footage, the perpetrator is heard screaming at the victim, saying: “I want to see you fight back. You called me a bastard? Is it because I have kept silent? I must draw blood from you today and no one can stop me”.
The victim is also seen in the video running to safety while being chased by her attacker.
The video also captured several individuals present during the assault, yet no one attempted to intervene.
Tope Akinbisoye, the varsity’s spokesperson, earlier told TheCable Lifestyle that the students in the viral video were summoned by the school disciplinary panel on Monday.
But in a statement on Tuesday evening, the school authorities announced that Opemiposi Precious Bolaji, the perpetrator who is an 18- year-old student of the department of Mass Communication, has been expelled.
The 100-level student was expelled alongside Genesis Osaro, another colleague who provided the stick with which Gloria Ajayi, the victim, was beaten.
A man who recently claimed to be the son of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, in a viral video has retracted his statement and apologized to the monarch.
In a new video, the man apologized to the Ooni, explaining that he had seen the monarch in a dream in 2022 and had another dream involving him a month ago.
He claimed that he created the initial video to attract the Ooni’s attention after his attempts to meet him in person were unsuccessful.
“I have a reason for creating that video. In 2022, I found myself beside the Ooni in my dream, engaging in discussions. Initially, I was unaware that it was a dream because Kabiyesi gave me the bead on my wrist. However, when Kabiyesi raised my hand, that was when I woke,” the man explained.
He continued, “Upon waking, I was perplexed about how I had encountered the Ooni of Ife, but later concluded that he is the father of Oduduwa land. Dreaming about him is not unusual or inappropriate. I have never dreamt about an Oba before; typically, I dream about governors, not an Oba.”
The man stated, “My esteemed father, please do not be displeased with me. I did not create the video to defame you; rather, I made it to attract your attention so that I could narrate my dream to you and hopefully meet you.”
He added that it was not an error to address the Ooni as his father because he is the leader of the Oduduwa descendants. “Nevertheless, you remain my father because you are the father of Oduduwa land. I implore Nigerians not to spread my video to defame the Ooni, as its purpose was to seek his attention,” he said.
The Ooni’s spokesman, Moses Olafare, had earlier responded to the initial video, stating that the man’s claims were false and that the matter had been reported to security agencies.
Olafare clarified that the Ooni knows and acknowledges all his children and would take full responsibility for them. “He is not a child of Ooni Ogunwusi as fraudulently claimed, but also never related in any way to any lineage of the Ogunwusi royal family and the Giesi Royal Compound of Ile-Ife at large,” he said.
The palace spokesman had assured that the House of Oduduwa remains committed to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people and would not tolerate any attempt to undermine or tarnish its legacy through fraudulent means. “We will continue to protect and uphold the integrity of the Ooni and the royal family,” Olafare said.
