IBADAN PRIME YOUTH FORUM (IPYF) CONGRATULATES CHIEF YEMI SOLADOYE ON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF IBADAN WEEK CELEBRATIONS.

The Ibadan Prime Youths Forum, under the umbrella of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), felicitate our father, mentor and an image maker of Ibadan land, Chief Yemi Soladoye – The CCII President General, on the success of the Ibadan week celebration, which ended with a grand finale and award presentation at Liberty Stadium last Saturday.

The Ag. National Coordinator of IPYF, Dr. Oluwatunmise Adeagbo in his congratulatory message, described Chief Yemi Soladoye as an Image Maker and his name will forever be remembered in the history of Contemporary Ibadan.

“Chief Soladoye has written his name in gold in the heart of every Ibadan sons and daughters, and his tenure will be remember for good in the history of Ibadan. As a two time President General of CCII, his tremendous contribution to the development of Ibadan will remain evergreen, as he will be dropping the mantle of Leadership come July 2nd, we wish our father well in his further endeavors and also his advisory role as an elder state man in Ibadanland” he said.

The National Coordinator further appreciates the CCII President General for establishing, recognizing the structure of IPYF and adopting it as a direct youth annex of CCII for prominent youths of Ibadan descent within the age range of 25 to 40 years who are passionately interested in the uplifting and development of Ibadanland.

“Once again, on behalf of our members, we show our appreciation to Chief Yemi Soladoye for adoption IPYF as a direct youth annex of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes for prominent youths of Ibadan descent within the age range of 25 to 40 years who are passionately interested in the uplifting and development of Ibadanland. Borno Gov, Prof. Zulum, Kwara Gov, Razaq Abdulrahman Pay Courtesy Visit To Makinde In Ibadan

Earlier today, Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, and his Kwara State counterpart, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq visited Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde in Ibadan.

This was contained in a statement released by Gov. Seyi Makinde via his Twitter handle which reads in part:

“We were pleased to welcome my brothers, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State who paid us a courtesy visit this morning. Former Governor of Borno State, Senator Kassim Shettima and Senator Ali Ndume were also in the entourage.

“Governor Zulum is in Ibadan to receive an award from alumni of his alma mater, the University of Ibadan. I congratulated him for the well-deserved award, and thanked him for commiserating with us over the incidents at Sasa and the Auto Spare Parts Market, Agodi Gate. – Governor ‘Seyi, Makinde, FNSE”.

Sports Festival: FG, Edo Govt Clash Over Funding

The ongoing National Sports Festival in Edo State have recently experienced some hiccups as athletes and officials say they are confused over the conflicting information passed by the Federal Ministry of Sports and the Local Organising Committee.

The Sports participants lamented that they are at a crossroads on whether to prepare to contest or return back to their base.

They also stated that some of the LOC officials have stopped attending to them at the venue of the competition due to several misinformation

The news of the postponement spread Thursday morning and activities at the venue of the Sports Festival went on low-key.

“We don’t even know what is going on again. We are all confused here. I hope that things will get clearer after 12noon,” an stated.

The confusion started when the LOC announced that the festival will end abruptly by 12 noon over the Federal Government’s failure to release funds.

A few hours after the LOC announcement, the sports ministry insisted that the festival would continue.

Athletes and officials at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Edo State say they are confused over the conflicting information passed by the Federal Ministry of Sports and the Local Organising Committee.

Ebomhiana Musa, the Coordinator of Media and Publicity, National Sports Festival, had in a statement on Wednesday night, said the decision to end the competition was taken at an emergency meeting of the Local Organising Committee headed by Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

“The Local Organising Committee, Edo2020 regrets to announce that it will end the games abruptly tomorrow, Thursday, April 8, 2021, for lack of funds.

“Regrettably, the FG is yet to redeem its pledge to support us as the host state financially for the cost of postponements. So, we are left with no option but to end the games at noon tomorrow.” Musa stated.

Reacting, the Federal Government in a statement by Ramon Balogun, Assistant Director Press Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, on Thursday morning, said, “The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has clarified that the 20th National Sports Festival, Edo 2020, is going on as planned with competitions going on as scheduled.

“For the records, the Edo State government due to the cost implications of postponements occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic requested financial assistance from the Federal government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development”. He added.

Kidnapped RCCG Members Released

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God on Thursday, disclosed that eight members of the church kidnapped in Kaduna State have been released.

The church members were said to be members of RCCG, Region 30, Trinity Sanctuary, Kaduna. They were attacked on March 26 near Doka along the Kachia-Kafanchan Road, on their way to a church programme.

The kidnappers had also demanded a ransom of N50m for their release.

But in a tweet on Thursday, 8th April, the General Overseer said all the eight members of the church have been freed and have been taken to hospital for medical examination.

“Today I got the exciting news that our brethren who were in captivity of kidnappers have all been released and taken to the Hospital for checkup and tests.

Glory be to Jesus.” He wrote.

Tinubu deserves to be Nigerian president in 2023- Afenifere leader

Reuben Fasoranti, former leader of the socio-political group, Afenifere, says Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), deserves to be president in 2023.

Fasoranti spoke on Tuesday while receiving members of the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (SWAGA) in Akure, Ondo state capital.

He said: “Tinubu has all it takes to rule Nigeria. Considering his activities and track record, he deserves to be President, come 2023.

“May his prayers be answered. When he gets there, he will do all we want.”

He said with Tinubu as president, all the prayers of Afenifere for Nigeria will be answered, particularly on the issue of restructuring and federalism.

Dayo Adeyeye, coordinator of SWAGA, said the Yoruba must unite and speak with one voice ahead of the 2023 presidential race.

The former minister for works said more than 50 traditional rulers across the six states of the south-west geopolitical zone had been visited for their blessings.

He added that the presidency would be zoned to the south in 2023, hence the need to quickly start the movement for Yoruba to unite.

“Tinubu has all it takes to rule the country, being a detribalised Nigerian who loves the masses and is blessed with enormous wisdom,” he said.

In March, Fasoranti had stepped down as the leader of Afenifere, after leading the group since 2008.

The nonagenarian had said there is a need for more active leadership — and Ayo Adebanjo, a chieftain of the group, was appointed acting leader.

COVID-19: WAEC to shift May/June exams to August due to disruption of academic calendar

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday announced it’s intention to postpone the 2021 exam West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Nigeria.

WAEC’s head of the Nigeria national office Patrick Areghan said the coronavirus pandemic distorted the academic calendar so much that there is no guaranty the annual terminal examinations will be held on schedule.

“It will, therefore, not be possible to have the examination in May/June this year,” Areghan said. “A convenient International Timetable for the conduct of the examination has been released.”

Areghan said all stakeholders have been requested to keep their fingers crossed until they hear from WAEC on whether the exams will hold.

Meanwhile, ODUDUWA NEWS could reliably confirm the postponement of the exam to August from the report of Zoom Meeting organized by Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja  on Examinations Timetables on the 18th March, 2021 signed by the National Secretary of NAPPS, Comr Ajibade Augustine, gotten by our correspondents which reads in part:

“Meeting commenced with self introduction by 11.30am. Hajia Binta Abdulkadri Director Basic Education Federal Ministry of Education addressed us on the need for examinations bodies and stake holders to harmonise their examinations timetables for effective planning and conduct of National and International  examinations.

“The Permanent Secretary invited stakeholders to speak. After fruitful deliberations we came up with the following:

1.NABTEC exams will be  within 14th of June  to 9th of July, 2021

2. NECO exams will start on the 5th of July and end on 23rd August 2021.

3. WAEC to commence on 16th August  to September 2021 (6 weeks) We arrived at this date because WAEC examinations are written by some other West African countries. Hence a convenient dates to all the countries has to be picked at WAEC international meetings.

4. Tentative date for BECE is Friday 28th May  to end Thursday 11th June 2021

5. In attendance at the said Time Table Zoom meeting includes among others :

a. Federal Ministry of Education officers,

b. WAEC

c. NECO

d. National Business and Technical Examinations Board( NABTEB) Benin City.

Gov. Oyetola condoles former Osun Speaker, Salaam over wife’s death

Governor of The State of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has condoled former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salaam over the death of his wife, Mrs Adebimpe Aduke Salaam.

The Governor’s condolence message was contained in a statement sent to ODUDUWA NEWS by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, in Osogbo on Monday.

Oyetola said he received news of the demise of Mrs Adebimpe with rude shock and sadness, saying that his thoughts and prayers are with Hon. Salaam and his entire family at this moment of grief.

He urged them to take solace in the quality of life the departed lived, adding that “death is a price we will all pay.”

The governor prayed Almighty Allah to overlook the shortcomings of the deceased and grant her a place in Aljanah Firdaus while also praying for divine comfort for the bereaved family.

USSD War: Banks Unblock MTN

The disagreement between banks and MTN over sharing formula for the USSD platform has been laid to rest.

MTN customers, for some days, have been unable to recharge using the online bank payment platform as a result of the disagreement.

ODUDUWA NEWS can confirm that MTN customers have been reconnected by the banks and can now perform their USSD transactions.

Lagos Court sentences man to 21 years in jail for armed robbery

Hon. Justice A. M. Nicol-Clay of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, has sentenced an armed robber, Aanu Moses, to 21 years imprisonment for armed robbery in Lagos.

According to the Director, Public Prosecution, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi, the suspect was arraigned by the Directorate of Public Prosecution on behalf of State Government on a four-count charge, in April, 2017, of armed robbery alongside two other accused persons – Sheriff Emiloju and Farouq Atolagbe.

While noting that the Police are still on the trail of the two other suspects, Adeyemi explained that the trio had robbed Mr. Abass Bashiru, Mr. Olayinka Houka and Mrs. Adewunmi Ogunleye of their valuables including a large amount of cash while armed with dangerous weapons.

She said the Prosecution presented three eyewitnesses and five exhibits before the Court to support its claim that the alleged crimes levied against the accused were true and uncontroverted, urging the court to find the defendant guilty as charged and sentence him accordingly

Delivering her judgment, Justice Nicol-Clay said the Prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that all the charges levied against Aanu Moses were undisputable.

She, therefore, found the defendant guilty of the charges, which are punishable under section 299 & 297 (2) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 and sentenced him to 21 years imprisonment on the counts of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Robbery.

EASTER: Be your brother’s keeper, forgive others, Makinde charges Christians

Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has felicitated Christians in Oyo State and around the world on the occasion of the 2021 Easter celebration.
The governor also called on Christians to, in the spirit of the season, continue to be their brother’s keepers and to forgive others.
Governor Makinde, who stated this in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa and made available to newsmen on Saturday, expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of residents of the state, especially the Christian faithful, to witness the Easter season.
He charged residents of the state to continue to support “their government,” saying: “I want to thank God for sparing our lives up until this moment and to encourage the people, residents, and indigenes of Oyo State to remain steadfast.”
He charged Christians in the state not to take lightly the price Christ paid for their salvation and to continue to remain connected to Jesus Christ.
Makinde said: “Christ has paid the price for us. So, they should keep on supporting their government and should, in the spirit of the season, be their brother’s keeper.
“If anyone has offended you, this is the period to forgive. This is the period also to get connected to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who died so that we may be saved.”
