REPORTED KILLING IN TORO VILLAGE, SHEER CRIMINALITY, NOT IFE/MODAKEKE DISPUTE- OONI’S PALACE

21/08/2021.

The palace of the Ooni of Ife on Friday morning received with great concern, news of the reported killing of some persons numbering about five at Toro village, Ile-Ife.

Aside from condemning the unfortunate incident in strong terms, the Palace of the Ooni immediately reported the case to appropriate security authorities, who swung into action immediately.

While some mischief makers tried to link the criminality to the long-resolved Ife/Modakeke dispute, the Palace of Ife wishes to state unequivocally that what happened at Toro village was sheer criminality and the long hand of the law will soon catch up with the perpetrators.

It is in the public knowledge that the country like its counterparts across the world is being confronted by security challenges, which would soon be a thing of the past with the corporation of all especially we (citizens).

Attempts to add communal colouration to the crime with an attempt to distract security operatives from unveiling the evil minds behind the devilish act by some mischief makers is already known to security operatives who are on top of the matter.

While lauding government and security operatives including the Police, Department of State Service (DSS), the Nigeria Army, Vigilante groups and others for being responsive to the ugly situation and their immeasurable roles in sustaining the peace being enjoyed in the communities, the Ooni implores all abiding persons to carry on with their legitimate activities as perpetrators of acts of criminality are not representing any community and will only be treated as criminals.

Don Proffers Solution To Menace Of Out-Of-School Children

Governments have been advised to be more prudent in their spendings and put better structures in place to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the country. This piece of advice was given by the Director, Internal Quality Assurance, and Chief Lecturer at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Osiele, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr. Temitayo Akinyele.

She stated this while featuring on the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, radio station, FUNAAB Radio 89.5FM live interactive programme, Boiling Point.

She identified poverty as another factor contributing to the problem, urging parents to set their priorities right by channeling their children’s efforts toward things that would guide them in making the right decisions. The Don, however, called for stringent laws that would mandate parents to take proper care of their children.

JUST IN: Amotekun Denies Killing Of Student, Says Allegation ‘Baseless’

The Southwest Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps, Oyo State chapter has denied killing a teenager in Ibadan. Briefing Journalists at the Command Base in Dandaru area of Mokola Ibadan, the Commandant of the Corps, Col. Olayinka Olayanju Retd, debunked the allegation by some of the people of the community. Olayinka said, the protesters were here at 6.30am and 8am and took the corpse to Secretariat.

“If you say Amotekun has killed someone, there should be evidence. All our vehicles have peculiar colour and unique number to trace. We have had cases like this in the past and because of the information given to us, we were able to trace.“I can’t say what led to the activities of all these people.

“Because of what we have been doing for the past eight months, some people will not like Amotekun to be in existence and they feel we are threat to them as we do not allow them to carry out their nefarious activities whether within the town or hinterland.

“Those who are peaceful and law abiding have nothing to fear. We only operated at Sango community where we were called by the community members for being under attack from armed robbers. This is a political environment and some who are not happy with the present government will likely use such things to get at the governor.“From the account of those who called us from Sango, they even said when the victims were evacuated to the hospital using Amotekun vehicle, they did not pass through Mokola.“We will not be deterred, we are here to serve the people and as long as government want us to continue to do what we are sent to do, we will continue to do it.“On my honour, Amotekun has nothing to do with the incident at Mokola.

“There are policemen and other private security men guarding the Lotto house and around the area, you can find out if Amotekun vehicle was found around that area.“If there is any evidence implicating any of my operative, I assure you will not spare them. We don’t condone indiscipline and no one will be happy with extra judicial killing. We are here to protect the people and can’t be going against the people.” Olayinka said.
