President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the staggered establishment of the four Colleges of Education to be converted into Federal Universities of Education.

He has also given approval for the establishment of two Federal Universities of Agriculture and two Federal Universities of Medical and Health Sciences and five Colleges of Education.

Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, Obilor-Duru Augustina Okechi, in a statement signed on Friday on behalf of the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, said this was in line with the present administration’s commitment to ensure continuity in governance and policy consistency.

She said the approved institutions for which the establishment process would commence immediately are: the Federal Universities, Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, Delta State; Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, Adamawa State.

Colleges of Education converted to Federal Universities of Education are Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Ondo State and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo State.

The Colleges of Education are: Federal College of Education, Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti State; Federal College of Education, Ididep, Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State and Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, Kebbi State.

“The establishment and conversion of these institutions is a further demonstration of President Tinubu’s Education for the Renewed Hope Agenda and will help in improving access to tertiary education in the country,” she stated.

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, aka Mohbad, has explained the reasons he felt the Deoxyribonucleic acid, popularly known as DNA of his deceased child’s son, Liam, must be done in his presence.

Aloba mentioned the need to clear the heated controversy among Nigerians about the paternity of the child and other surrounding issues between the former Marlian singer and his wife.

In an interview with Stams TV on Wednesday, the late singer’s father also emphasised the importance of the test while discrediting the rumour about the DNA being done in a post made by popular skit maker, OGBCultist, who is believed to be Mohbad’s friend.

He also proposed that the test be conducted at two different hospitals to ensure the accuracy of the results.

Aloba said, “Concerning the DNA test, it’s a must they do it. Nigerians are demanding it. I heard rumours that they did it, but no matter what, I’m Mohbad’s father, so I’ll give consent to the DNA test or send anyone who can represent me during the test if I’m not there to know how they’ll do it. And even when they want to do it, it should be done in two different places so we can be very sure and know the truth.

“Also, where I am from in Ikere Ekiti, even Olu Ikere just left my side now after visiting me. We don’t accept bastards where I’m from, but it will be a thing of joy for me if this child is Mohbad’s because this is the only child he said he left for me. Three days before his death, I was with him, he even served me food, and he put Liam on my hands, and he was taking pictures.

He added that he is also interested in the police rounding off their investigation process so that the burial rites of his late child would be done.

“I will call the police boss to know if it is possible for us to bury him. In fact, many have complained of seeing Mohbad’s ghost and this is only possible because he has not been buried. I would really be glad that this is looked into as early as possible,” he said.

It is reports that MohBad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, and his death sparked controversies leading to nationwide protests among Nigerians with his former label boss, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, and his associate, Samson Balogun, aka Sam Larry named among the five prime suspects.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has demanded resignation of Gov of the State, Rotimi Akeredolu over inability to govern the state due to his ill health.

PDP in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Party as read in part:

“The time has come for the Ondo State House of Assembly to immediately begin the impeachment process of Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN for violation of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

“It is no longer news that Ondo State has been on auto-pilot for nearly six months, grounding all activities of the government due to the ill health of the Governor.

“Unfortunately, rather than tell the citizens the truth, most of Akeredolu’s handlers have resorted to insulting the sensibilities of the people by making a public show of their ignorance. The handling of Akeredolu’s condition by his aides has robbed the Governor of public sympathy.

“The Constitution envisaged that, it is possible for a State Governor to be ill or incapacitated as it is the case with Akeredolu now and therefore made safeguards.
“Section 193(2) states expressly that “the Governor of a state shall hold regular meetings with the Deputy Governor and all Commissioners of the Government of the State for the purposes of –
a. Determine the general direction of policies of the state” amongst other provisions.

When was the last time Akeredolu held a State Executive Council meeting?

It is not a crime to be ill, but that will not be reason an entire state must be brought to her knees.

Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) Ondo State Chapter calls on the State Assembly to invoke sections 189(1) to cause a Medical Panel to be instituted to ascertain Akeredolu’s medical status and do the needful in the interest of the people of the state.

Our party wishes to urge the Governor’s aides to stop ridiculing themselves by defending the indefensible and standing logic on its head”.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, on Wednesday, said that the Federal Government paid a total of N135.23 billion to subsidise electricity consumption in the second quarter of 2023.

This was made known in the commission’s Q2, 2023 report.

NERC said that the N135.2 billion was spent by the FG to plug revenue generation shortfall in the power sector in the period under review.

It said that this indicated an increase of N99.21 billion, representing 275 per cent compared to the N36 billion it paid in the quarter I of 2023,

The report stated that the government incurred a subsidy obligation of N135.23 billion in 2023/Q2, which is substantially higher than the N36.02 billion it incurred in 2023/Q1.

The commission stated that the subsidy was due to the absence of cost-reflective tariffs across all distribution companies.

It said that the increase recorded in the period was a result of the government’s policy to harmonise the exchange rate.

The report said that on average, subsidy obligation incurred by the government per month was N45.08 billion in Q2 2023.

Controversy has continued to trail the case of a popular traditionalist; Abdullazeez Adegbola, popularly called Tani-Oloun over who represent him in the case of defamation among other offences charged against him before two different courts of competence in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Oduduwa News reports that two legal practitioners, Barrister Ademọla Banks and Barrister Muftau Olobi have been claiming to be defendant (Tani Olohun) counsel.

Magistrate Muhammed Ibrahim who is presiding over the matter, noted that the two counsel are seeking redress on court jurisdiction to entertain the matter and on the defendant bail.

The court, in his ruling, adjourned the matter till Thursday when the defendant will be in court physically to identify which of the counsel he engaged to represent him.

Earlier, Olobi moved an application for the defendant’s bail which was refused by the court due to the preliminary objection Barrister Ademọla Banks has moved.
