Gov. Makinde meets Buhari over herdsmen-Ibarapa crisis

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has today met with the President Muhammad Buhari over the recent security crisss in the state.

It should be recalled that, the Fulani crisis in the state recently took another turn in the state with one Yoruba activist, Mr. Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, given ultimatum to the Seriki Fulani and his people living in Igangan and Ibarapa geopolitical zones of the state.

There are indications that, the emergency meeting was all about the recent crisis.

It was gathered also that the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu was also at the Villa to discuss state of insecurity in the State with President Muhammad Buhari.

OPINION: My dexterous visit to Gov. Makinde’s Village in Ajia – DIG Moyosoreoluwa

BY: IJOBA AUTHORITY MOE

On Friday 15th Jan 2021, I visited the ongoing road construction of Ajia-Odeyale-Ejikeye-Iyana Aba Otun areas to link New Ife Road Airport and Amuloko roads.

It was an interesting tour to my principal’s village, being the second time of my visit; met with many people to hear their opinions, observations, and advices to the government and the people’s governor, his name became a widespread fire reaching the nooks and crannies of Ajia Village, seeing the gigantic and memorable projects that made history since independence, end-to-end that Gov. Seyi Makinde had started and will be completed to the glory of God and use of mankind in their villages; especially his hometown.

Amazingly, I began to reason why wailers and charlatans denigrating the good works of the state government despite working round the clock to make sure all hands are on deck to ensure Oyo State is great again (M.O.G.A).

Hmmm, alas, part of the plans to enhance the speedy acceleration of the Oyo State through infrastructural development is what Seyi Makinde has begun. No wonder, he stated that his administration’s success rests on four pillars and these are health, education, security, and agric business.

Just a minute, let me adopt a quote from my governor in one of his letter on Planning.
In his words, he said “many leaders have manifestoes, their manifestoes are often well-written. People who read their manifestoes are usually excited about them. They choose to follow these leaders based on these plans but no sooner than they get into power, they abandon these plans. They often say that the reality they met on the ground makes it impossible for them to follow through.”

His works and words speak volumes in governance than those with audio microphones disparaging the great move of this administration to mislead the general public especially on the issue of Amotekuns recently addressed by the Governor, issuing a strong warning to perpetrators of evils in the society and disturbing the peace in the state.

For this purpose, a leader like GSM is well scrutinised to ensure vision and goals are by facts actualized and realisable. I had noticed in their green book on the Roadmap to Accelerated Development in Oyo State from 2019-2023 becoming a function of reality as planned.

I am highly convinced and enamoured of his resounding and rising diligent attitude towards making Oyo State a world-class state, in a short while with positive forecasting at heart. If having the likes of Victoria Ireland (V/I) in Lagos was possible, YES! we can as well have the subsequent in AJIA CITY such as:

*AJIA IKEJA ALLEN
*AJIA SURULERE OGUNLANA DRIVE
*AJIA BANANA IRELAND
*AJIA IKOYI
*AJIA LEKKI PHASE 2
*AJIA OMOLE PHASE 2
*AJIA MAGODO GRA

However, most times when I take a trip down memory lane as to how Oyo state looked like in the last 8years compared to what it has become within the space of 21months, I felt taken aback to believe if it was a magic or dream comes true agenda or in a trance. Absolutely, it’s pretty hard to comprehend and compare the past with the present.

He leads by example, setting a pathway and creating a footprint for others to follow. AJIA CITY will soon become a tourist ground for local and international links. It is on this note, I encourage both male and female, young chaps, senior citizens, business tycoon/moguls not to ignore the great development in that village but to see opportunities awaiting them and see it as a niche to tap into. Hence, why I am opening the eyes of our understanding to the wealth of the gentiles being unleashed now and in future.

That’s what I meant by a man who is a step ahead. His CLAIRVOYANCE is second to none and as a matter of fact, he is a world class phenomenal. I must find my own way down to the city and get established in one of the land(s) so as to be a partaker of goodies in the land flowing with milk and honey, yielding positively. Like they say, “If you see something, say something.

He is the true leader who does not follow where the paths may lead. He creates his own relief roads for foot paths (PATHFINDER). The time to move from poverty to prosperity is now. The state government under the leadership of seasoned engineer, FNSE Seyi Makinde has started a good work in that location to better exposed and create opportunities in the town for investors to come in and do illustrious businesses in that area and beyond; like establishment of Industries, Oil and Gas, Farm Settlement Programme, Real Estate, Entrepreneurships, Communication gadgets extension installations, Bank’s accessibilities and a host of others.

GSM is not only abreast with the new paradigm, he is always a step further and farther from others like an EAGLE SPECIMEN. We thank God for sending this Young Man code named GSM, to set the people free from Political bondage, freedom from Oppressors who cannot determine the Liberation of the oppressed. Oyo State is finally in the hands of a man with mandate to deliver good Governance and dividends of democracy to his people, indeed I can say Gov. Seyi Makinde is another GOVERNOR NEHEMIAH in the holy book.

This is a MISERY of CONFIDENCE/ASSURANCE that some VILIFIED oppositions calls HAUGHTINESS.

I believe we can work/walk together to Make a Difference (M.A.D) in our dear State and Country Nigeria.

Yours GSMIST,

✍🏽 Signed:

She was said to have been suspended for alleged anti-party activities and for not making any contribution to the development of the party.

Gov. Makinde orders redeployment of 200 Amotekun corps to rid Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun forests of criminals

The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has ordered redeployment of additional 200 Amotekun corps to kidnapping/banditry hotspots in Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.

This was contained in a statement released today by Engr. Seyi Makinde via his official Twitter handle which reads in part:

“Following the meeting held with representatives of Igangan, Ibarapaland which was attended by security stakeholders including the recently appointed Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko, our administration has come up with a security strategy for that zone. The strategy includes:

“We have resolved to redeploy 200 members of the Oyo State Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun to kidnapping/banditry hotspots in the state, especially in the Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun zones. These operatives will launch missions to rid the forests of criminals. They will be presenting daily reports of the activities to me in the short run and periodic reports in the long run.

“In the next few weeks, we will hold town hall meetings and community outreaches, bringing together residents and security agencies to talk about any issues of immediate concern and how they can be resolved through dialogue and more effective community policing.

“As stated in an earlier press conference, we will be proceeding with the documentation of foreigners, especially those who are working in mines. This will ensure that only foreigners who have legitimate interests in Oyo State will remain within our territory.

“We will continue to enforce the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019. This law also regulates the activities of herdsmen in Oyo State. We have directed the Amotekun Corps to continue collaborating with ‘Operation Burst’ and local vigilante groups in enforcing this law. You will recall that in the security meeting of south west governors and other stakeholders two days ago, it was agreed that open grazing be banned in the entire south west zone.

“Our administration will continue to support the police and other federal security agencies posted to the state in the discharge of their duties.

“We are aware that some farmers have been killed and/or lost their livelihoods to criminal trespass and damage by pastoralists. And so, the State Executive Council is considering the possibility of compensation payments to families of victims or victims of this criminality who can prove their claims.

“We have started the process of prosecuting all suspects arrested for criminal activities in Ibarapa and the Oke-Ogun zones of the state in connection with the ongoing tensions in the area.

“Let me thank residents of Oyo State who complied with the directive to remain peaceful, and call on all residents to stay vigilant and always contact the security agencies empowered by law to deal with security issues. We remain resolute in our commitment to protect the lives and properties of residents of our dear state”.

Those Who Burnt My House Will Run Mad In 48 Hours – Sunday Igboho

Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho has warned that those who razed down his house worth N50 million will run mad within 48 hours.

Recall that his house was razed by unknown arsonists who came in two buses, fired gunshots sporadically before setting the house ablaze.

This happened just five days after Igboho made good his promise that he would ensure no Fulani herders remained in Ibarapa.

A source close to Igboho said the arsonists stormed his old house around 3am thinking he was around.

On his Twitter handle, Igboho wrote,

“This happened at about 1am today. They thought I was still in the house. I am safe and sound my people. You can’t kill a breeze. In 48hours the attacker would be revealed and would run mad. I have spoken”.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Command through its Police Public Relations Officer CSP Gbenga Fadeyi said, “At about 0620 hours of today 26/01/2021, report was received at Sanyo Police Station that some unidentified hoodlums came to Sunday Igboho’s house at Soka area of Ibadan in a Hummer bus and Micra firing sporadically, and set the house ablaze.”

“The mini sitting room got burnt in the process while amount of other properties is yet to be estimated.”

“Immediately the DPO Sanyo got wind of the incident, he contacted Fire service while he also went to the scene for on the spot assessment”.

“The fire was eventually put out. Investigation has commenced into the incident while the Police is on the trail of the hoodlums.”

Many sympathisers thronged the scene raining curses on whosoever carried out arson.

Ondo Govt’s Vacation Order: Miyetti Allah concedes as herdsmen begin registration

…Says no more night, under-aged grazing in S-West

Following the executive order given by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State to Fulani herdsmen illegally occupying the state’s forest reserves to vacate within seven days, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, yesterday, conceded to the demands of South-West Governors.

Governor Akeredolu had insisted that unless the herders are registered with the state government to operate in the reserves, they will be dislodged in seven days. They actually started registering yesterday, following the peace meeting brokered by the Presidency.

This development came on a day some prominent Yoruba leaders warned the South West governors not to negotiate the continued stay of Fulani herders, saying they should all toe the path of Governor Akeredolu by issuing eviction notices to violent herders in their states.

This is even as Yoruba activist, Mr. Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Igboho, insisted yesterday that Yoruba cannot live like slaves in their own land and vowed to contain the criminal activities of herdsmen across the region.

Also looking at the growing resentment against the activities of some armed herdsmen across the country, Director-General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum PGF, Salihu Moh. Lukman, called on the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to take steps to implement the report of the Nasir el-Rufai Committee on True Federalism.

Similarly, the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, said the South West geo-political zone alone could not address the security challenges facing the region, noting that only a collective national approach would resolve the farmers/herders’ clashes.

On his part, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, also advised Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to be more proactive and decisive in handling the security situation in the state.

S-West govs meeting with MACBAN

These were some of the fallouts of the meeting brokered by the Presidency yesterday between South-West governors and leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, to resolve the problems between farmers and herders in the region.

Present at the meeting held at the International Centre for Culture and Events, DOME, Alagbaka, Akure, Ogun State, were also security agencies and other stakeholders.

Some of the governors in attendance include those of Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Jigawa, and Kebbi states.

The National President of MACBAN, Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa, who conceded to the demands of the governors, directed Fulani herders across the South-West to put an end to both night and under-aged grazing with immediate effect.

No more night grazing, underaged grazing in South West- MACBAN

Speaking at the meeting, National President of MACBAN, Alhaji Kiruwa, warned herders to desist from taking their cows to people’s farms for grazing.

Kiruwa said: “I want to plead with all our members to avoid allowing cows straying into farms, they should stop small boys, as a matter of urgency, from going to graze; also, night grazing must stop either in Ondo State, South-West or across the country.

“This is one of the reasons we have herders and farmers clashes. This has always been causing conflicts between farmers and herders. I can assure you of our support and cooperation.”

On the quit order given by Governor Akeredolu, he said: “We believe dialogue is key in achieving peaceful co-existence. We assure their Excellencies that we will continue with our awareness campaign to our members to appreciate the sensibilities of their host communities by ensuring they live in peace.

“The menace of banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping emerged as a result of poor management of farmers/herders’ conflicts that gave rise to cattle rustling, thus giving birth to kidnapping, and later banditry.

“In all of these, our members are the worse victims and also culprits. To date, over 10,000 pastoralists have been killed as a result of farmers/herders’ conflicts. Over five million cows have been lost to these incidents.

“We find it distasteful and dangerous the recent incidence in Oyo where people are allowed to take laws into their hands by killing and burning properties at will.

“The government should come down heavily on perpetrators of such acts and provide immediate palliatives to the families of people who lost their lives and properties in order to ease their frustrations.

“We are open to working with the NGF in designing what we think can work in solving these problems.

“We condemn all sorts of criminality, extra-judicial killings and the impunity that is associated with it. Once more, we reiterate that MACBAN has never and will not condone any form of criminality by anyone.

Herdsmen have started registering — Ondo govt

Meanwhile, Special Adviser to Governor Akeredolu on Security Matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo said the herdsmen in Ondo State have started registering to operate in the state.

“My office, in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Amotekun office, are handling the registration exercise.”

Jigawa, Kebbi govs back Akeredolu’s quit order

At the marathon meeting, Governor Badru Abubakar of Jigawa State and his Kebbi State, counterpart, Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu, agreed with Governor Akeredolu that the herdsmen should register before operating in government’s forest reserves.

The Northern governors said it was absolutely wrong for herdsmen to do business in a state without proper registration with the state government, stressing that

there was nothing inappropriate in the order of Governor Akeredolu that they should register before operating in the forest reserves.

The communiqué

The meeting ended with a communique read by Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, Kayode Fayemi.

It read: “Following the Executive Order of Governor Oluwaratim Akeredolu of Ondo State, SAN, to Fulani herdsmen illegally occupying the State Forest Reserves to vacate within seven days, with effect from Monday, January 18, 2021, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by its chairman, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, met with the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, security agencies and other stakeholders on January 25, 2021 at the International Centre for Culture and Events, DOME, Alagbaka, Akure in Ondo State to find lasting solutions to the incessant killings, kidnapping and crises between herdsmen and farmers in the Southwest geo-political zone of the country.

“The meeting discussed vigorously and resolved that the security and welfare of the people of Nigeria is the primary purpose of government as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended.

“The stakeholders are committed to the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria. Insecurity is a national challenge and not peculiar to any tribe or region but must be addressed by the cooperation of all.

“The order of Ondo State governor was misconstrued and misrepresented by a section of the media. He only ordered those occupying the Forest Reserves in Ondo State illegally to quit.

Criminals should be apprehended and punished, no matter their origin, class or status. Security agencies have been trying to stem the tide of criminality in the country but must step up their efforts in the fight.

“There is the need to build partnership for peace and security with MACBAN and jointly wage war against criminality. No one had sent anyone away from any state or region but all hands must be on deck to fight criminality.

“MACBAN is a peace loving and law abiding organization which does not habour or condone criminals. We agreed that night grazing should be banned henceforth; under-age herding is inimical to security and hence be banned and occupation of State Forest Reserves illegally is condemned.

“MACBAN also suffers insecurity and kidnapping and thus desire peaceful coexistence. MACBAN is ready for any peaceful move by the states to engender security.

“Fake news is another issue that makes our security worse than solving it. There must be an enduring framework with MACBAN in a way that will help address security issues.

“That free range grazing must be stopped to avoid conflicts between farmers and herders by strengthening an alternative security arrangements and make them complementary to the mainstream security agencies in Nigeria.

“MACBAN should embrace and be committed to modern breeding process by creating grazing reserves and practice ranching to prevent cattle roaming about.

A standing committee comprising farmers, MACBAN and the government should be set up in each state (where they don’t exist) to ensure synergy and result.

“We must create economic opportunities for our people and reduce opportunities for criminalities in our country.”

Akeredolu misconstrued — Fayemi

Earlier in his opening address, Governor Fayemi said: “Everybody recognizes the importance of this meeting to national security, to peace and to national integration and development.

The statement, as regards the ultimatum by Governor Akeredolu, has been misconstrued and it has generated a lot of reactions.

“Around about the same time that was happening, we also had similar development in Ibarapa, Oyo State, which led to temperate reactions in the state.

“The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, immediately took the right step, made a broadcast to try and douse the tension in the state.

I’m also aware that he has since sent a team, led by his security adviser and Commissioner of Police in Oyo State to area.

“All of these point to the same issue that we are witnessing across the country. We feel very strongly, in the Nigerian Governor’s Forum, that we all should be working for the peace of the country.

“We know MACBAN in this part of the country. The South-West is a very accommodating region and there are people in MACBAN who were born here. Among them, there are those who speak better Yoruba than I do. They have a stake here, most of them have invested all their lives here.

“This is what appears to me to have generated the agitation we’ve seen. Unfortunately in the age of social media, things get out of hand very quickly. This is what needs to stop.

“For us in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, what we are after is the apprehension of criminals of any hue; criminals that are Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo or Fulani. We are not after Fulani herdsmen.

“But there is nobody who does not feel a sense of insecurity in our country today. This issue of banditry, kidnapping, of general insecurity is all pervasive. And we have to be tough on crimes. And there is a question that members of MACBAN are victims of crimes too, the way we, who are not members, are equally victims.”

Crime has no ethnic colour — Makinde, Oyetola

Also speaking, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Osun State counterpart, Gboyega Oyetola, said crime has no ethnic colouration, noting that “we mustcontinue to encourage our people to work together and face our common enemy which are the criminals.

“We would continue to promote good neighourliness and go after criminals; we will support our security agencies to do their work.”

My order was unambiguous —Akeredolu

In his address, Governor Akeredolu cleared the misconception that his order was for the herdsmen to vacation the state.

Our neutrality is sacrosant – AIG

Also, the AIG Zone 11, Olufemi Agunbiade, urged Nigerians to stop giving crime ethnic colouration, saying “let us rise and deal with criminals.”

Agunbiade said: “No society is crime-free. We won’t allow crime to prosper again after the #EndSARS experience.

Insecurity in Ibarapa: Ex-Reps member, Ojoawo sues for peace, advises Govt to brace up for rising challenges

The former member of House of Representatives, Hon. Gbenga Ayoade Ojoawo (Iloko) has called on all stakeholders to embrace peace while puting measures in place to nip in the bud the rising security challenges in Ibarapaland. He said the insecurity level in Ibarapa axis of Oyo state and the state at large calls for serious concern.

This was contained in a press release made available to ODUDUWA NEWS this morning by one of his Media Aides.

The statement read, “I appreciate the intervention of the security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, and students’ associations in the current situation of Ibarapa axis. It will be recalled that the zone has been facing series of insecurity challenges, ranging from kidnappings, killings, robbery, among other crimes against humanity.

It is a known fact that it is only in a tranquil and peaceful environment that our communities can experience steadfast development. No one will come and invest in a place where the adequate security of lives and property is not guaranteed.”

He added that, “In few days, the Federal Science Technical College, Igangan will be writing its supplementary qualifying examination for interested candidates. For instance, if there is no peace in the community, parents will find it difficult to send thier children to partake in the examination for admission.”

“To this end, we urge our current political office holders to brace up to the current security challenges by dousing the current tensions as well as providing an enabling environment for her citizens. Killings and kidnappings have been a cankerworm in the community at large and lives and property have been lost as a result of inadequate and ineffective government policies.”

“I urge citizens to live within the purview of the law with the sole aim of achieving community development. We should all embrace peace and tolerate one and other. Indigenes and security personnel should work in harmony to combat and expose further criminal incidence. Government should also wake up to the primary responsibility of protecting lives and properties while maintaning laws and order”

“All stakeholders in Ibarapa – the local vigilante, religious leaders, pressure groups, and traditional rulers – should assist in fostering peace and harmony. Not to mismanage humane socio-relations , care and love for one and other, trust building and effective security apparatus would guarantee sustainable peace in our zone to promote social economic development.”
