Gov Makinde, Wike, Others Attend Fayose’s Son Wedding in Lagos

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike; Governor Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and other high profile dignitaries attended the traditional wedding ceremony of Oluwanigba Fayose, in Lagos on Saturday.

Oluwanigba Fayose, who is the son of immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, wedded his sweetheart, Olamide Adekunle Abdul at The Monarch event centre, Lekki Peninsula II, Lagos.

To the delights of many at the event, the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde announced that the political difference between him and the former Ekiti governor, Fayose was over.

“I was on Channels TV two days ago. They said I won’t come here. Am I not here? Whatever misunderstanding we had in the past, has been put behind us.”

He also noted that the presence of the Chairman Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Dr. Fayemi and erstwhile governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni at the wedding, should serve as a lesson to Nigerians to eschew politics of bitterness and hatred.

“Here you have former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, Governor Fayose, Governor Fayemi, all of them have ruled Ekiti one time or the other. They are not in the same political party. So, those of you who want to die because of us politicians, please politics, governance is not something that should lead to anybody losing his or her life.”

Governor Makinde cautioned those bent on dividing Nigeria along religious line to take a cue from the Fayose and Adekunle Abdul families, who despite being Christians and Moslems respectively, consented to their children getting married.

“People that want to divide this country on religious line, they should have a rethink. We are here celebrating not only culture coming together, but also religious tendencies coming together.”

The Oyo State governor commended Governor Wike and the delegation from Rivers State for gracing the occasion and identifying with the families of the couple.

Governor Makinde, who prayed God to bless the couple with children, peace and prosperity, advised them to harmonise their respective dreams and aspiration in order to avoid friction and unwarranted bickering in their marriage.

“I want to congratulate Olamide and Oluwanigba. This is the beginning of a journey and our prayer is that this will produce children.”

#EndSARS Assault: LNSA Suspends Erring Officers

The Management of Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) has suspended two of its officers involved in unruly behaviour and acts of misconduct towards one Mr. Adedotun Clement (an Uber driver) during the #EndSARS protest held at the Lekki toll gate on the 20th of October, 2021.

The General Manager of the Agency, Prince (Dr) Ifalade Oyekan, who disclosed this today at the Command Headquarters of the Corps at Safety Arena, Bolade Oshodi, said the behaviour of the two officers in the viral video on social media was inappropriate and unbecoming for any member of the corps.

Oyekan declared that the committee found the two officers guilty of the charge of misconduct and they were immediately suspended from the Agency while further investigations are ongoing to determine other appropriate disciplinary action against them in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

While reiterating the readiness of the Corps to ensure the safety of lives and property, he appealed to all its officers to imbibe the highest level of professionalism while carrying out their official duties of ensuring the safety of lives and property of residents working, living and doing businesses in the State.

The General Manager, however, apologised to the victim, stressing that the State Government places a high premium on its relationship with all residents, who are the Agency’s partners in achieving its mandate and assured that the ugly incident would not repeat itself.

Business Mogul, Femi Otedola Becomes Largest Shareholder of First Bank

Nigerian billionaire businessman and investor, Femi Otedola, on Friday, reportedly took over First Bank of Nigeria Plc.

According to The Street Journal, Otedola took over the bank with the acquisition of about ₦30 billion worth of shares, making him the single largest shareholder of the bank.

Otedola, being the largest shareholder, holds the highest voting shares, giving him power to dictate the direction of the bank through his voting power.

Recall that Femi Otedola had in 2019 divested his 75% direct and indirect share holding in Forte Oil, via a merger of his company Zenon Oil and former African Petroleum.

This act made many wondered why he made such a decision especially because of the lucrative nature of the oil and gas sector.

The billionaire had expressed interest in going into refining and petrochemicals as well as investing in the real estate and financial sector.

It was gathered that Otedola decided to take over First Bank Nigeria because of the internal crisis rocking the bank.

Recall that the leadership crisis rocking the bank led to the Central Bank of Nigeria sacking both the chairman of the bank, Ibukun Awosika and Obafemi Otudeko, the chairman of FBN Holdings.

Makinde Denies Nursing Vice Presidential Ambition, Says Rift Between Him and Fayose Resolved

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has denied that members of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum are mounting pressure on the outgoing National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, to withdraw his case against the party from court.

Makinde also denied having presidential or vice-presidential ambition in the 2023 general elections.

This is just as he stated that members of the PDP who have failed to deploy the internal dispute resolution mechanism of the party before dragging it before courts, especially towards frustrating the forthcoming national convention, should not be allowed to benefit from the party.

The governor made these known while featuring on Politics Today, a current affairs programme on Channels Television, which our correspondent monitored from Abuja on Thursday.

Responding to a question on the likely effect of the case instituted by Secondus on the forthcoming national convention of the PDP, Makinde said, “This is a democratic party. We believe in the judiciary. By all means, he can go ahead with his case. But we have mechanisms internally for the party to resolve issues within ourselves and I still believe that that mechanism is still there.”

When asked to confirm the report that PDP governors were pressurising Secondus to stop the legal action, he said, “We cannot put pressure on him. These are adults; these are leaders in their own rights. When you are leading a state, it does not happen just like that. No. You must have gone through a process. You must have been scrutinised by people of your state before you are deemed fit to occupy the status or position of a state governor.”

On the allegation that Secondus was unfairly treated, Makinde said, “This is somebody that, at the inception of this Fourth Republic, he was the chairman of the party in Rivers State. Then, he moved from Rivers to the national (leadership). He was the National Organising Secretary of the party. He was Deputy National Chairman. He was Acting Chairman and he was the National Chairman. I would think that he has benefitted so much from the party and the least we expected from him was to really give back to the party and be a stabiliser for the party.”

The governor said if he was in Secondus’ shoes, “I would listen to the voice of reasoning.”

When asked about the disqualification of three PDP leadership aspirants especially when the party had once pardoned its members of similar offences, Makinde said, “At some points, you have to draw the line. Yes, people have been doing things in the past and they have been getting away with it. But there has to be a point where the party will have to say, ‘Enough of this!’

“You have the internal mechanism of the party to settle any issues that you may have. Besides, what exactly are we trying to do? We are trying to send a message to Nigerians: we are going towards the general elections in 2023 and we need to let Nigerians know that this is a party that will stand for discipline, unity and a party that they should look up to whenever they are thinking of how to fix the problems that we are in. And we cannot do that in an atmosphere of impunity.”

Makinde also disclosed that he had settled with a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose over the leadership of the PDP in the South-West.

“We have put all of that behind us; that was before the PDP zonal congress. We are done with the zonal congress. It has come and gone. I am going to be at Governor Fayose’s son’s wedding on Saturday,” he said.

According to the governor, it is the first time in the history of the PDP and political parties in Nigeria where a party is about to hold an elective convention and out of the 21 positions to be contested, about 16 has been settled through consensus including the national chairmanship position.

Sahara Reporters Publisher, Sowore Dragged to Court By Zenith Bank Manager Over Defamation

A former Manager with the Zenith Bank Plc, Dr. Osadebe Osakwe has dragged the publisher of Sahara Reporters Mr. Omoyele Sowore and the Sahara Reporters Media group to a Lagos High Court seeking the sum of N250 million each as damages from the defendants for alleged defamation of character.

Dr. Osadebe who is also the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of North China Construction Nigeria in his statement of claim, alleged that the defendants in their online news media, website and blog on 17th May 2016, published the offensive material captioned “Zenith Bank Manager uses Armed thugs to take land from indigenes”.

The publication went further to say “A crisis is reportedly brewing between Igbodo Community in the Ika North East and Onicha-ugbo community in Aniocha North Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta state following alleged criminal activities coordinated by a Manager of Zenith Bank Plc, Osadebe Osakwe. Dr. Osakwe, an indigene of Onicha-Ugbo community and a Manager of Zenith Bank Plc has allegedly been using armed thugs to seize land from residents of Igbodo community.

“Sahara Reporters reliably gathered that Dr. Osakwe who has used the confiscated land to established a farm called “Adagat” Agricultural Ventures Limited” has continuously boasted that the Minister for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu and his brother, a Senior Police Officer are solidly behind his land-grabbing from the people of Igbodo community for the purpose of starting a World Bank farming project…”.

The Plaintiff, who also alleged that the defendants in another publication on 19th April, 2018 titled: “Scandal: Gov. Okowa, Sister, SSG and Others Embroiled in N13.6bn Secretariat Complex Fraud.” The defendants in the publication on their website stated that: “Delta state Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, his sister, Ivana Shenton, Secretary to the State Government, (SSG), Festus Ovie Agas, Commissioner for Special Duties, Government House, Asaba, Henry Sakpra, a former Zenith Bank Manager, Osadebe Osakwe and others have been indicted in a N13.6 billion fraud scandals related to a new secretariat complex being built by the state and information available to this website indicated that the governor, awarded the contract for the new central secretariat complex to North China Construction Company Nigeria Limited (NCCG) which allegedly has the governor’s Sister, Ivana Shenton and former Zenith Bank Manager, Osadebe Osakwe as frontiers.’

“Checks by Sahara Reporters revealed that North China Construction Nigeria Limited was registered two years before the emergence of Okowa as a governor with Corporate Affairs Commission registration number, RC 1113315, and is being managed by Osadebe Osakwe, the former Zenith Bank manager who is also a strong ally of the Delta governor… It was alleged Osakwe spent a fortune in making sure Okowa emerged governor of Delta state in 2015 general elections. It described the contract as ‘a conduit pipe being used by Governor Okowa to drain the state’s treasury ahead of his second term bid….”

Dr. Osadebe said the defendants have caused to be made and published several publication against him through their online media to reduce his estimation before the average right thinking members of the society.

He said the publications of the defendants have clearly and deliberately represented to the whole world that he is a stooge, corrupt, fraudster, a killer, a cheat, a dubious fellow of questionable character, a thief, lacking in integrity and an enemy of the people of Delta State of Nigeria, the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the International Community altogether, and these imputations are in no doubt defamatory against any standards worldwide.

Briefing journalists, Dr. Osadebe’s lawyer, Barr. Patrick Odozi stated in his word “I know that the said unverified and unsubstantiated publications which was put in an international online news media and published worldwide, is completely false and fabricated, and I strongly emphasize that in all the said publications the defendants defamed the character and image of my client on the internet which has been published and read and still being read till date by different people within Nigeria and abroad who have now come to see my client as a brute, corrupt and a debased fellow,” The lawyer asserted.

#EndSARS Memorial: Sanwo-Olu Orders Release of Arrested Protesters

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the release of the protesters arrested recently by the Nigerian Police Force during #EndSARS protest. This was made known today in a statement released via his official Facebook account as read in part:

“Following the conclusion of the sitting of the State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution on Police Brutality, I want to reassure everyone that government will ensure full disclosure by making the report public.

“Lagos State Government, under my watch will not make any attempt to cover up the recommendations of the panel, whether it favours us or not.

“I am convinced that the panel report would be helpful in strengthening true reconciliation and help to prevent re-occurrence of violence in the State.

“We are currently facing the arduous task of rebuilding the state, one year after it was hit by a wave of arson attacks resulting from the EndSARS protests. Lagos recorded a huge loss in assets and resources, following the violence that trailed the protest, as public transportation infrastructure, court buildings, police stations, private properties and iconic assets were razed by arsonists on October 21, 2020.

“In the spirit of freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution, I have ordered the release of those that were arrested for participating in a drive-through EndSARS memorial protest at the Lekki Tollgate yesterday except the person who was caught with dangerous weapons at the scene.

“The immediate task before us is to work together to rebuild Lagos and I extend a hand of fellowship to the youth to be stakeholders in the development of our State”.
