Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force have described as mischievous and a fictitious imagination of mischief agents, the social media report of an alleged shooting of a member of the National Youth Service Corps by an officer of the Command in Ibadan.

The Command said, rather, it was the Corps member who raised a false alarm which resulted in an attack of the police officer who was on a legitimate duty around New Garage, Off Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road, Ibadan on Thursday.

Speaking through the Spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, a Superintendent of Police, in a statement, on Friday, the Command explained that the affected officer had flagged down the car for the routine stop and search but instead of obeying, the driver of the car, a corps member hit the officer with he car and even drove off.

The statement reads “The Oyo State Police Command wishes to dispel rumors making the rounds about a shooting incident involving a Police Officer and a National Youth Service Corps member as mischievous and a fictitious imagination of mischief agents.

“Preliminary investigations/Independent Witness Accounts revealed that a reckless driving Corps member in the company of his colleagues while returning from their Community Development Service (CDS) in a White tinted Toyota Camry with Reg No ABY 237 JR was flagged down by operatives on legitimate stop and search duties along Black Horse Area, New Garage, Off Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road.

“However, he drove directly towards the direction of the officers, thereby knocking down, one Sgt Agbadahun Bright.

“Resolute in his actions and in a view to escape, he drove off without batting an eyelid and veered off his lane towards the direction of other incoming vehicles till he ran into a Tricycle from where the Policemen caught up in him.

“On sighting his returning colleagues from their various Community Development Service Groups, he immediately raised a false alarm about being shot at by the Police officers thus inciting the now riotous corps members to completely cut off the flow of traffic by blocking the road and other adjoining routes before proceeding to attack any officer in sight.

“Assertively no shot was fired at the scene by any officer(s) before or after the incident at the Corps Member or his vehicle rather the riotous corps members smashed the side mirrors of the Officer’s Kia Operational Vehicle, broke its windscreen and deflated all its tyres.

“The riotous corps members then pounced on Sgt Agbadahun Bright and stabbed his right cheek with a sharp object. The officer was immediately rescued by swift Police reinforcement and his presently receiving medical attention.

“The Commissioner of Police however wishes to state assertively, that while being civil and professional in the discharge of their duties as expected, Officers and Men of the Command would no longer condone acts of hostiles such as these from members of the Public.

“Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing and updates would be provided in due course.”.

Gary Warner, the Director of Research in Computer Forensics at the University of Alabama, took to Twitter to rubbish the viral reports and the accompanying documents.

He said the document shared to back the report is a doctored version of a June 2020 affidavit.

Warner added that the edited document was intended to get people to visit a scammer website.

He tweeted: “People are asking me if it is true that #Hushpuppi laundered $400,000 in #Stimulus cards from in prison.

“The document they show is an edit of a June 2020 Affidavit. The new version is fake, intended to get people to visit a scammer EIP website.”

The Governing Council of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has invited newsmen to cover its session for the announcement of new Vice Chancellor by 3pm today.

The current Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede’s 5-year tenure has come to an end which has paved way for the new process to appoint his successor.

In an invitation statement made available today by the Governing Council as highlighted thus:

ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that the University of Ibadan has just been closed down.

The Management in its statement made available to newsmen ordered and directed all students to vacate halls of residence. The decision of the management was contained in its official bulletin released and signed by Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi as obtained by ODUDUWA NEWS.

The Management took the decision at its meeting held on Wednesday, 16 March, 2022, to deliberate on the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which had now been extended by eight (8) weeks.

As a result, academic activities in the University have become paralysed.

Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of Senate has directed that the University be closed until further notice.

Postgraduate students who have paid their school fees and undergraduate students who are on industrial attachment or practical training are exempted from this vacation notice. Such students are to visit the Office of the Dean of Students for accommodation arrangement.

“A new date of resumption will be communicated in due course.

“Management wishes our students safe journey to their various destinations”.
