The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has denied rejecting President Muhammadu Buhari’s consensus list in the forthcoming national convention of All Progressives Congress APC.

This was contained in a statement released and made available to the newsmen by the Governor as read in part:

“The general public is hereby notified that a news story in circulation with the above headline is a misrepresentation of the views of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

“Dr Fayemi at a policy dialogue organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) in Abuja on Thursday, was quoted as rejecting the consensus arrangement President Mohammed Buhari reached with the Governors ahead of the party’s convention.

“It must be stated, however, that Governor Fayemi’s presentation at the event was about democracy in West Africa and democratic reversal in Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso and not about his party convention.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Fayemi in response to a question from the audience accusing the President of imposing a Chairman on the party at the forthcoming convention, stated that the President’s priority was the unity of the party and he didn’t know about the President endorsing any candidate for Chairman. But that if indeed the President has expressed such a view, the President that he knows is a democrat and those who do not share the view may of course contest”.

Men of the Ogun State police command have arrested two men for allegedly gang-raping a 22 years old girl (name withheld) at Eleweran area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

A statement released by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson of the state police command, says the suspects identified as Seun Orokunle 38 years and Sarumi Sodiq 28 years, were arrested following a complain lodged at the public complain bureau Eleweran Abeokuta by the victim, who reported that she went to the house of Seun Orokunle who happened to be her boyfriend.

”On getting there, she went to the bathroom to take her bath and unknown to her that the said Seun Orokunle had invited her friend Sarumi Sodiq who came straight to meet her in the bathroom, dragged her out and the two of them took their turns to have sex with her after beating her thoroughly.

After satisfying themselves, Seun Orokunle took her clothes and dipped it in a bucket of water in order to prevent her from leaving the house immediately.

She stated further that the duo, who claimed to be cultists threatened to kill her if she dare report them to anyone.”Oyeyemi said

The police spokesperson added that upon receiving the report, the officer in charge, the public complain bureau, DSP Badmus Opeyemi, detailed his men to go after the two suspects and bring them to book. They were eventually traced to Aregbe area of Abeokuta where the two of them were apprehended.

Oyeyemi added that they have both confessed to the commission of the crime.

He said the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

With a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.97 over a scale of 5.0, Benjamin Damilare Olowu became the overall Best Graduating Student at the 25th convocation of the Lagos State University (LASU) in Ojo.

The valedictorian, who hails from Epe Local Government Area of the State, finished from the Department of Mechanical Engineering with the highest grade point in the faculty’s record.

Also, 111 others graduated with a First Class across the 10 faculties in the school. The graduands were awarded the degrees at the convocation held at the campus, on Thursday.

The Visitor to the school, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, applauded the feat attained by the university, stressing that the school had sustained the established culture of excellence and quality tertiary education.

The Ojo campus of the school was agog with activities, as dignitaries from various parts of the country trooped to the campus for the ceremony.

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, delivered the convocation lecture titled: “Global Trends: Nigeria’s Rightful Place in the World”. Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari chaired the lecture.

Sanwo-Olu, in his address, said LASU had evolved from its humble beginnings to attain a world-class status, noting that the quality of graduates churned out by the school testified to LASU’s tenacity of purpose, teamwork, drive for innovation in teaching, learning and research.

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has described the protests embarked upon by some Ile Ife indigenes over the announcement of a non-native as the next Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University as “crazy”.

Soyinka, a former lecturer at OAU, spoke at a lecture titled, ‘The Politics of Black Intellection and Creativity, at the University of Pennsylvania, the United States’, which was the first of the newly-inaugurated Distinguished Lecture series in African Studies.

Reacting to a question by Professor Wale Adebanwi, Presidential Penn Compact Professor of Africana Studies, Department of Africana Studies, University of Pennsylvania, Soyinka said he’s “shocked” over the incessant kidnappings, ritual killings and violence that have become the order of the day in Nigeria.

Asked to express his reaction to the agitations that the next Vice-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University must be an indigene of its host city, Soyinka faulted the protesters.

He said, “An Ife person wrote me and say, look at these people disgracing us. I told him to go there and disgrace them. You are an Ife person. You should be in the front line.

“The Ife people should say those people don’t belong to us, we don’t know where they came from. And they should be dealt with ruthlessly. Why should there be an Ife VC anywhere? I just don’t understand what they put in the water these days. It is crazy

The Ogun Police Command has faulted claims by the state Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) that a vehicle belonging to it was used to smuggle foreign rice into the country.

Spokesperson of the Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, faulted the claim while reacting to the parade of Hilux van with police number plate PF 10889 SPY allegedly arrested with 27 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice by the Customs in Ogun on Tuesday.

ODUDUWA NEWS reports that the Controller of Ogun Area 1 Command of Customs, Bamidele Makinde, had on Tuesday told newsmen that the driver of the alleged police Hillux van ran away when his vehicle was accosted by his officers.

“As it is, it will be communicated to Abuja. The NCS headquarters has the final say on what happens to it. If it is found to be a police vehicle, it is only Abuja that can release it to the police authorities”, he said.

But the Ogun Police Command spokesperson said the claim that the impounded vehicle belonged to the Police by Customs was false.

Oyeyemi also said the Customs should have contacted the police before reaching its conclusion of the vehicle, especially, since no police officer was arrested with the vehicle.

Oyeyemi said, “The attention of Ogun state police command has been drawn to a news item with the above caption circulating on social media and other media outfit. The news has to do with the press briefing done by the Nigeria Custom Ogun 1 area command on the 22nd of March 2022, while parading some impounded contraband at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta.

“During the said press briefing, a vehicle purportedly belonging to Nigeria Police Force, used for smuggling of 27 bags of rice and abandoned by the driver when accosted by Custom officers was paraded by the comptroller.

“The command wouldn’t have like to join issues with a sister agency, but in order to set the record straight, there is need to make the following clarifications.

“To start with, the number plate on the vehicle which is PF 10889 SPY is not a police number plate, as no police vehicle will be numbered in such manner.

“The Nigeria Custom Services which have unfettered access to the top echelon of the Police command would have contacted the command for details information about the vehicle before labelling it as Police vehicle in their press briefing, moreso that nobody was arrested with the said vehicle to give credence to their claim.

“The command hereby wishes to inform members of the public that the said vehicle is not a Police vehicle and the number plate on it is fake and the police has nothing to do with it.”

A Magistrates’ Court in Ota, Ogun Stae has ordered a 40-year-old housewife, Biola Joshua, to sweep her son’s school, Iju-Ebiye High School, for six months for invading its premises with thugs.

The police had arrested Joshua after she invaded the school with others at large on March 11, 2021, and beat the principal and one other person for scolding her son.

Following her arrest, the police later dragged her before the magistrate’s court and charged her with conspiracy, assault and breach of peace.

Delivering judgement in the case, the Magistrate, Shotunde Shotayo, ordered the convict to sweep the school from 8am to 11am every day. He also directed that the school open a logbook for the convict, where her daily activities would be recorded for the six-month period.

Shotayo, however, gave Joshua a fine option of N30,000 to be given to the injured principal and school official.
