ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that people of Ojumele and Ajegunle of Sagamu, Ogun State are under tension as cult groups engaged in gunshots.

According to eye witness who spoke to ODUDUWA NEWS correspondent under the condition of annonymity said, the cult groups started shooting sporadically early morning today and like five persons had been gunned down while several others injured.

Business of the aforementioned areas has been shutdown and other activities suspended due to the ongoing clash which has claimed lives of cult members.

As at the time of filing this report, people were seen scampering for safety while Amotekun Corps were trying to restore normalcy in the affected areas.

The Coordinator of Dele Bajaj Foundation and CEO Pattern Agro Ventures, Mr Oke Wasiu (Pattern) has rejoiced with Hon. Usman Muhedeen (Olohunwa) CEO BMU, founder of Dele Bajaj Foundation, a non political and non-governmental organisation, as he celebrates another productive year of existence.

He describes him as an icon of humanity, builder of first-class leaders, and symbol of development that has made significant impacts in his career and also towards everyone around him.

The birthday statement which was made available to newsmen this morning by the Coordinator reads thus:

“There is no better day to celebrate a great boss, leader, mentor, and role model than today. Or how would one describe a humble humanitarian that always shows no hesitation in demonstrating his love for the cause of humanity without expecting any praise-singing or validation from anyone?”

“In fact, I would say he is a godsent philanthropist. Little wonder his good deeds have brought succour to many, put smiles on people’s faces, and restored hope to the hopeless, even in the midst of the prevailing economic downturn. If only our political leaders could put the needs of others before theirs – just like today’s celebrant does – the world would be a better place for us to live.”

Speaking further on the impacts of the celebrant, he appreciated his love and commitment towards development. “You made me realize that one doesn’t have to occupy any political office before giving back to society. The recent massive empowerment program you held through your Foundation is an attestation. I could see how it breathed new life to people. There is no doubt that you have been sent to fill the void in the lives of many people,” he said.

While conveying the birthday message on behalf of the entire Management of the Foundation, the Coordinator continues, “As one of the most tender-hearted personalities I have ever met, you’ll continue to be my inspiration. A gang of seven suspected members of a robbery gang some days ago hijacked a tanker fully loaded with 45000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol.

The police in the state rescued the driver of the hijacked truck, Falana Abiodun, and his assistant, Fatai Opeyemi, from the armed robbers who held them hostage.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad who were on a routine patrol of the Lekki – Epe Expressway last Thursday intercepted the armed robbers during the robbery operation.

The RRS said, “Men of Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in the early hours of Thursday rescued a tanker driver and his assistant from the captive of gun-wielding robbers on Lekki-Epe Expressway, while they also recovered three guns, 11 live cartridges and machetes from robber’s vehicle.”

The police unit added that “Other items recovered from the robbers were: a tipper with the registration number: BDJ 271 XB, a chisel, backpack, hand gloves and a face mask.

“The robbers, numbering about seven had around 1 a.m. used a blue colour tipper to block a truck loaded with 45,000 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS) at Berger Bridge inward Epe, Lagos. The fuel tanker was heading to Oyo State.”

RRS also stated that “The four occupants of the tipper ordered the truck driver and his assistant out of the vehicle.”

The unit also stated that “They drove away the 45,000-litre tanker while three other robbers who were hiding in the bush held hostage the truck driver and his assistant, identified as Falana Abiodun and Fatai Opeyemi, before leading them into the bush.

“They were emerging from the bush around 4:00 a.m. with their hostages when patrolling Rapid Response Squad (RRS) team saw them and gave them a chase.”

According to the police, “The robbers abandoned their vehicle, guns and machetes before escaping into the bush.”

The 45,000-litre tanker was later found empty through the assistance of NUPENG members in Epe.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi has directed the Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Yinka Egbeyemi to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for further investigations.

CP Alabi further assured that all the suspects involved in the hijacking of the 45,000-litre tanker would be made to face justice.

The management of the Federal University of Technology Akure has mournied the loss of its immediate past Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola.

Prof Daramola died on Friday at the age of 64 after a brief illness.

The Registrar of the institution, Mr Richard Arifalo, released a statement on Sunday, stating that the varsity received the news of the demise of Daramola with shock and sadness.

The statement read, “The death is shocking and painful not just because of its suddenness, but also because by the death FUTA has lost one of the builders of and contributors to the growth and development of our institution, and Nigeria has lost an erudite scholar of international standing.

“Professor Daramola served FUTA creditably well in various capacities. During his tenure as vice chancellor, he consolidated on the gains of his predecessors and charted new frontiers of development, particularly in the areas of rebranding, internationalisation and renewal of critical infrastructure.

“He succeeded in ‘taking FUTA to the market place’ as he canvassed in his agenda for development of the university, prior to and after taking office as Vice Chancellor.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with members of his family at this very difficult time. We also enjoin them to take solace in the rich and laudable legacies of sterling services to the academic world and humanity that the departed erudite professor left behind.

“We pray that God will give them and the entire university community the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

The Governor of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has congratulated a former deputy governor of the State, Senator Iyiola Christopher Omisore, on his emergence as the new National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Similarly, he has also congratulated the new chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, saying he believes the former governor would bring his wealth of experience to bear in the administration and management of the party’s affairs.

Oyetola who also congratulated other newly elected officers of the party, described the emergence of Omisore as a round peg in a round hole.

He expressed confidence in the ability of the Ife-born politician to deliver and contribute to the growth of the party through his new position.

According to the Governor, Omisore will deploy his political sagacity, leadership qualities and experience which he acquired in public and private sectors, towards building a virile and healthy party at the centre.

Governor Oyetola spoke shortly after the announcement of Omisore as the newly elected National Secretary of the ruling party at its convention in Abuja, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The former Osun Deputy Governor was returned elected through a consensus arrangement reached by other aspirants who withdrew from the contest.

Recall that the position of the party’s National Secretary was zoned to the Southwest by the party’s national leadership. Consequently, Omisore along three other contenders from the region vied for the position.

Addressing journalists at the Eagle Square, Abuja, the venue of the Convention, Oyetola hailed the leadership quality of President Muhammadu Buhari and praised him for playing a fatherly role to unite the party in the interest of all.

“First of all, I must thank our leaders in the South West for their support for our own Senator Iyiola Omisore. This is a great thing for us in Osun APC and I must thank other contestants for conceding and accepting to withdraw from the race. I commend them for the bold step just as I assure them of our support in their time of need. I have no doubt in the capacity of Otunba Omisore to deliver and take our party to greater level.

“As you can see, the peaceful atmosphere here and the seamless conduct of the convention is a testimony to the strong unity that exists in our party. It is an attestation to the fact that we have our ways of resolving issues without necessarily resorting to conflict.

“Contrary to the negative expectations of some people the convention went peacefully. The security operatives have done wonderfully well. I am really proud of what had happened today, it is a sign that our party is united, formidable and remained indivisible.

“In achieving all these, I must personally commend the leadership quality provided by President Muhammadu Buhari who always advocate for harmony and peace in the party. It is natural to have disagreement, but what is important is the ability to have workable mechanism to resolve any crisis without necessarily resorting to rancour.

“I am confident that with the existing unity in the APC, our party will continue to remain in power beyond 2023 by the grace of God,” Oyetola added.

Also speaking, the newly elected APC National Secretary, Senator Omisore expressed gratitude to God, President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Oyetola, party’s leaders and co-contenders for their unflinching support and confidence reposed in him to serve the party. He promised never to disappoint them.

“Shortly after the baby’s mother left to buy the bean cake, the suspect quickly put the baby inside a sack and ran away.”

A housewife resident in Iwo, Osun State, Ganiyat Abbass, and her husband, Olatunbosun, have been arrested by the Police for allegedly stealing a six-day-old baby.

The couple was paraded on Friday by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode. Also paraded were two suspected fraudsters, identified as Olaolu James and Favour Ige; as well as four suspected armed robbers – Agbebaku David, Olubunmi Adewale, Oderinde Oluwaseun, and Oluwaseun Adejuyigbe.
