The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has felicitated with Nigeria workers on the occasion of the May Day celebration.

In a statement by his media office, Tinubu charged Nigerians to work in harmony to produce a better country for themselves and future generations.

He said as the nation celebrate the day, “let us as Nigerians dedicate ourselves to a hopeful future.”Tinubu also enjoined everyone to do what is necessary to pave and ease the way for the Nigerian labourer.

“Let us dedicate this day and ourselves to the fair and unassailable proposition that every worker is entitled to an equitable wage representing the value of their labour and effort,” he said.

“Labour is the backbone of a nation. Our nation’s labourers are the daily unsung heroes of society. The work they performed helps define our nation. The goods and services their efforts provide are the basis of our collective well-being.

“Today is Workers’ Day. It is a day for us to fully celebrate the Nigerian worker. You face many obstacles, but you persevere and thrive even in the most difficult situations and hard times. So many workers wake before dawn and continue their labour until well after dusk. Their industry and commitment are remarkable; their sacrifice, inspiring. Today, I join all Nigerians in celebrating the hard work and productivity of Nigerian workers around the country. Without them, there is no production, no progress, no development and no better tomorrow.

“Nigerians everywhere continue to produce goods and services, applying their skills, ingenuity, and pursuit of a better way in all fields of economic endeavour, from factory to farm, from large to small businesses, from using traditional skills in established ways to deploying technology to create new skills and tomorrow’s new products. Through their hard endeavour, our nation’s workers embody the best of us and rekindle hope for our nation’s future. Work not only provides a livelihood it adds greater meaning and purpose to the lives of those who actually labour.

“Let us celebrate those who labour for our collective good and prosperity. Let us also dedicate our labour to provide the best products and services our society and its people need. Every day that we show up to work and contribute the best of ourselves to the labour at hand is a day we contribute to the betterment of our communities.

“May we do what is necessary to pave and ease the way for the Nigerian labourer. Let us dedicate this day and ourselves to the fair and unassailable proposition that every worker is entitled to an equitable wage representing the value of their labour and effort. That no one who works for a living should live in poverty. That no one shall work in unacceptable and dangerous conditions.

“No one shall experience discrimination and bigotry on the job. All forms of harassment of female workers and unfair treatment of the physically challenged must end. And those who are now elderly and retire are duly entitled to timely and full payment of the pensions owed them for their years of labour and toil for the benefit of this nation.

“In a certain sense, everyone is a worker, and we all have roles to play in the progress of our nation. Extra burden, however, is placed upon a nation’s leaders. We must create the economic and political space so that our workforce may thrive and achieve its fullest expression. As such we must set the tone for the entire community by embodying diligence, selflessness, and productive purpose so that the rest of society may follow in this manner.

“As we acknowledge and celebrate the Nigerian worker on this day, let us as Nigerians, dedicate ourselves to a hopeful future where our individual and collective efforts merge in harmony to produce a better Nigeria for ourselves and future generations. God bless the workers. God bless Nigeria,” he added.

Makinde Holds Iftar With Muslim Faithfuls, Vows To Address Religious Issues In TESCOM

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared that his administration will continue to sustain the religious, ethnic harmony being enjoyed in the nooks and crannies of the state.

The governor, who stated this while hosting Muslim faithful to Iftar at the Presidential Lodge of Oyo State Goverment House, Agodi, Ibadan, said that the state will not allow anyone creat religious disharmony between Muslims and Christians in the state.

Makinde during the Iftar.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as calling for citizens participation in government business adding that if anyone observes mistakes of his government, he or she should call his attention to such mistake and it will be promptly looked into and corrected.

Governor Makinde also pledged to the address contending issues raised by the Muslim Community about the management of Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM),
adding that he is satisfied with the work of both the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education .

Waterfield Luxury Hotel, Akobo, Ibadan.

He said:”I am very happy tonight to host you all to this iftar and pray that we shall celebrate more on earth. Even, we will celebrate that of next year in this same place by the grace of God.

“In Oyo State, the spirit between Christians and Muslims shows that no one can succeed in creating religious disharmony in our midst. I will say it once again that despite being the governor, I am not the richest, wealthiest or all-knowing. It was only the will of God that came to pass, which brought me here.

“So, what this means is if you observe the government is making a mistake, point it out genuinely to us and we will look at it together. There are some people who are hell bent in spreading fake news to cause disaffection in the public. I can assure everyone that we will not shy away from correcting any mistake we are making. If whatever decision we take is wrong, we will correct it. So, I beg you to always call our attention to whatever mistake you think we are making.

“I have also noted what you said you observed about TESCOM. Most times, I try to balance things out but in certain instances, I try to look at what some people have to offer our government. The Commissioner for Education and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry are both Muslims. They are doing what is expected of them and I am happy with them.

“I was reviewing some of the things we have done and I have seen instances where a Muslim was pushing for balancing in a particular area. So, since the issue of TESCOM is a concern to the Muslim community, we will address it. There is religious and ethnic harmony in Oyo State despite the confusion some elements are tying to create for us.

“When the clash at Sasa happened, it would have snowballed into a serious crisis that would have even consumed Nigeria if God had not taken control. So, I want us to be circumspect. If anything bad wants to happen to Nigeria, it will begin from South West, particularly Ibadan.

“Let me remind us that ‘Operation Wetie’ started here and gradually snowballed into civil war and we are still battling the challenge till today because it was the civil war that led to the overcentralisation of power at the federal level.

“Also, the restructuring we have been clamoring for can be traced back to all these past events. So, when some people think they can create confusion and cause disharmony so that they can take over power by force,
sometimes, generation yet unborn can later suffer from the outcome of such act.

“So, I really thank you all our fathers and mothers here for your cooperation.”

Earlier, in their separate goodwill messages, representatives of the Imam and Alafas, from Ibarapa,Okeogun,
Ogbomoso,Oyo and Ibadan, commended governor makinde for being fair and just to all religions.

The programme had in attendance, Imams and Alfas, political office holders,Clerics and host of others.
