PDP crisis takes a new dimension as Ayu, Anyanwu, others given 48 hours to resign

The crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over recent corruption-related accusations has escalated as National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and Deputy National Chairman (North) Umar Damagum have been given a 48-hour ultimatum to resign at the risk of legal action.

The threat followed took a resolution by the Forum of PDP candidates and aspirants, which passed a vote of no confidence on the three officers.

They’ve also petitioned the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party on the unanimous demand of candidates for the resignation of the above-mentioned officers.

The candidates, who gathered and held their brainstorming session in Abuja, also alleged that the leadership of the party extorted several aspirants during the congresses, primaries and national convention of the party after primaries swapped the names of candidates with the names of persons who did not win.

They pointed out that these “underhand actions of the leadership of the Party are largely responsible for the nullification by the courts of the Governorship primaries in Zamfara State and all primaries held in Ogun State while noting that many more are still pending in Court.”
Chris Ogbu, who presided over the session as the Forum Coordinator and House of Assembly Candidate, also read the communiqué. He was flanked by Dauda Yusuf, the Forum’s Secretary and former governorship aspirant as well as several other members.
He demanded Ayu, Anyanwu and Damagum step down immediately or be sacked by the party within 48 hours or face legal action to force them from the office which will commence on Wednesday.

The candidates/aspirants said that Ayu allegedly sharing money paid as nomination form instead of utilising it for the prosecution of the historic 2023 election of the party, was very provocative and indicting on the image of the party.
“Voters now see them as a come and chop or share the money party and that removing Ayu and his gang of party treasury looters will go a long way in showing that PDP is now a party that is intolerant of corruption,” the resolution read.

2023: Ogunde’s ‘Yoruba Ronu’ Mantra And The Ethos Of ‘Omoluabi’ || By Ismael Taiwo

A legendary playwright, Chief Herbert Ogunde (10 July 1916 – 4 April 1990) was a theatre Cicero who was famous for his brilliant and amazing artistic works.

Waterfield Luxury Hotel, Akobo, Ibadan.

In his lifetime Ogunde used the theater as a political voice in the 50s, for Egbe omoduduwa and it was an arsenal that couldn’t be ignored and was a Nigerian actor, playwright, theatre manager, and musician who founded the first contemporary professional theatrical company in Nigeria, the African Music Research Party as far back as 1945.

In 1986, he was invited by the Nigerian government to form a national drama troupe. During this time, he represented Nigeria in the Commonwealth Festival of Arts, performing a play called Destiny.

Ogunde starred in Mister Johnson, the 1990 motion picture that also featured Pierce Brosnan (James Bond). The movie was shot in location at Toro, near Bauchi, Nigeria. Sadly, he fell ill during the shooting of the movie and subsequently passed on.

Today’s generation might not be aware of the artistic dexterity and sheer creativity of this man who, in the course of his lifetime, wrote and performed many spectacular plays and movies and composed several music soundtracks.

However, his lifetime journey smashed the rock when he attempted to lend his voice for the people of Yoruba race against subjugation and oppression of the ruling elites.

Ogunde’s most famous play, Yoruba Ronu (performed 1964; “Yorubas, Think!”), was such a biting attack on the Premier of Western region that his company was banned from the region — the first instance in post-independence Nigeria of literary censorship.

It is my belief that Ogunde felt that unity of Yoruba was necessary and paramount as at that time to have a strong and formidable political base that would usher in several developmental programmes to Yorubaland.

The regime of Obasanjo felt his song at that time could promote disunity and if not banned it could spread to various parts of the country which might not go well with fragile country coming from civil war.

Though the ban was lifted in 1966 by Nigeria’s new military government but his message continues live after his demise.

This resonates with the happenings around us recently as 2023 approaches, several Yoruba people have been divided and the pillar of unity that our forefathers have held unto seems to be shaken everytime transition of power knocks at the door.

What should perturb sensible minds is that our elders who supposed to be teaching the young folks the history of Yoruba in the political firmament have chosen to continue in the trajectory of discord. Alas, they seem to have forgotten the ‘Omoluabi ethos’ usually echoed by them whenever their personal interest is involved.

2023 presidency has pitched several Yoruba to eachother. Our elders have thrown caution to the wind and do not want to allow decorum. As such, they continue to throw tantrums over their political affiliations. They have forgotten that the youth folks are keenly observing the atmosphere and the way the ‘Omoluabi ethos’ has been relegated to the background.

As 2023 beckons, it behooves on us to learn from history and not to turn Oduduwa land to theatre of war as a result of provocative statement from our elders. Yoruba race has been known as intellectual hub of Nigeria and we are far beyond sowing seed of animosity or waving prejudicial thoughts on any of our decision whether political, social or economical.

It is my belief that our unity of purpose would always prevail irrespective of our political affiliations that may be seen as cog in the wheel of progress of Yoruba race.

Man In Viral Video At #OBIdient Rally Not My Son – Lagos Deputy Governor

…Lampoons Labour Party Supporters, Says Bogus Statistics, Lies Won’t Work

Attention of the Office of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, has been drawn to an online picture of an individual captioned “ The Lagos State Deputy Governor’s son Femi Hamzat, joins the obidient rally in support of Peter Obi” which has gone viral on the social media.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by his spokesman, Tunde Also as read in part:

“For the avoidance of doubt, the gentleman in the displayed photograph is neither the Deputy Governor’s son nor his relative.

“The viral message is another mischievous, false and malicious attempt to cause friction between the Deputy Governor and his admirers and loyalists across the Nation.

“Dr. Hamzat has a reputation of commitment and loyalty to the Sanwo-Olu led administration and the All Progressives Congress. His support is for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima. Our party and all our supporters are working hard to ensure that our candidates get the votes of Nigerians. Ours is not about bogus statistics and lies.

“Any attempt to denigrate his character by spewing falsehood about his family will remain a vain and futile attempt until eternity.

“Supporters of the Labour Party should get serious with their campaigns and desist from cheap tactics that would not yield any political gains.

“We hope that Nigerians will detect these tendencies to deceive and see it for what it is. It is too late in the day to keep lying to Nigerians. It won’t work”.
