Two Suspected ‘Yahoo’ Boys Arrested For Killing 40-Year-Old Man For Ritual In Ogun

Operatives of Ogun state Police Command have arrested two suspected internet fraudsters popularly call yahoo Boys for killing a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Azeez, cut him to pieces and used him for money making ritual.

The suspects; Friday Abinya Odeh 21 years old and Poso Idowu 20 years were arrested following a report lodged at Owode Egba divisional headquarters on the 9th of June 2022 by the relations of the victim, who reported that the victim left his home at Kobape area on the 8th of June 2022 and did not return since then.

Upon the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, directed the anti kidnapping unit of the state Criminal Investigation Departments to take over the investigation and unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the man.

In compliance with the CP’s directive, the SP Taiwo Opadiran led team subsequently embarked on technical and intelligence-based investigation which led them to the hideout of Friday Abinya Odeh on the 22nd of September 2022, where the Airtel Sim card of the victim was recovered.

His arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice Poso Idowu. On interrogation, the suspects confessed that they kidnapped the victim on the 8th of June 2022 at kobape area, at about 7:30 pm, from where they forcefully took him to the bush, killed him and pieces his body.

They confessed further that it was one herbalist simply identified as Arab money who they claimed to have contacted on Facebook that prescribed the ritual for them. All efforts to recover the remains of the victim proved abortive as the suspects claimed to have disposed it.

Meanwhile, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspects be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

Kidnapping: Security Operatives Deployed To Iseyin/Ipapo By Oyo Govt

The Oyo State Government has deployed a security team to Ipapo/Iseyin axis in the Oyo North Senatorial District, following the abduction of some farmers by unknown gunmen on Saturday.

The state government appealed to the people of Ipapo to be calm in the wake of the fresh abduction of the four persons.

In a statement on Sunday, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi said a security team comprising police and the military has been dispatched to support the existing security architecture in the area.

He stated that though the ugly incident happened outside the State Farm Settlement (Ipapo/Iseyin), the Oyo State Government prioritizes the protection of life and properties of every resident of the State, farmers inclusive.

According to the statement, which was signed by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, the government “pledges to take every step to safely return those abducted to their loved ones”.

“The military team is expected to join the operation that is planned to not only rescue the victims but also ensure that appropriate actions are taken against the perpetrators,” the statement by the Commissioner for Information read.

“It is in pursuant of this that all security agencies in the State including the Nigerian Army have been mobilised to the area and are in hot pursuit of the criminals”, he said.

He assured all that the State Government is collaborating with security agencies to rescue the abductees within shortest possible time and prevent reoccurrence of the sad event.

Storey Building Gutted By Fire In Lagos Island

As of the time of filing this report, the building was still on fire and traders were trying to salvage as much as they could of their goods.

The building houses shops where they sell fabrics.

Tension As Four Farm Workers Allegedly Whisked Away By Unknown Gunmen In Iseyin

The Iseyin town has been thrown into palpable tension as on Saturday afternoon, four farm workers from the Agric Settlement area in Iseyin had been abducted by gunmen who according to report were armed to the teeth.

The four kidnapped farm workers according to report were working in a sizable poultry farm inside the community before the ugly incident.

It was learnt that several other farmers managed to escape from being abducted and have given the account of their ordeal in the hands of the Kidnappers.

The escapees said the kidnappers were roughly ten in number, equipped with high-tech weapons and outfitted in army camouflage.

Many of the farmers in the farm settlement along the Iseyin-Ipapo-Saki route obtained the land for farming purposes on lease from the State Ministry of Agriculture.

As of late on Saturday night, a group of Amotekun men, soldiers, and police officers were exploring the settlement’s broad area in the direction of the Okeho, Itesiwaju local government axis, where the kidnappers were spotted traveling with the victims.

The search squad was still pursuing the kidnappers on Sunday morning as they headed towards the Okeho forest, according to Mr. Adepoju, the chairman of the Farm Settlement Association.

“It is extremely bad that this is now occurring in our neighborhood. After the government asked us to start a farm and we did, kidnappers will likely take us as they would like a chicken.

“Those kidnappers arrived with advanced weapons that our Amotekun men do not possess. I appreciate the bravery of our security officers because while they were pursuing the men in army camouflage, we could hear the difference in the sounds they were making,” said one of them.

The kidnapped farm workers who were abducted have not yet been identified, which has generated concern in the Iseyin community.

The rate at which kidnappers operate in the Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa region of Oyo State without any meaningful response from the security forces was regretted by some of individuals our guys spoke with on Saturday evening.

They alerted the federal and state governments to the issue since, in their opinion, the surge of kidnappings could start to have an impact on the local economies as farmers and businesspeople might find it difficult to go out and conduct their trades out of dread of kidnappers.

How I Was Blinded By Ogun Monarch For Dancing With His Queen At A Birthday Party – Trader Narrates

A trader in Ogun state, Wasiu Oduwole, has cried out for justice after he was allegedly kicked in the eye at the Moore Blessing Hotel, Ikenne, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State by a traditional ruler who accused him of dancing with his queen during a birthday celebration at the hotel.

It was learnt that the monarch, his queen, alongside other guests, were invited by the celebrant, identified simply as Iya Alaje. Before the celebration commenced, Wasiu told Punch that the owner of the hotel, Yakub Omobolanle, contracted him to prepare 14 plates of catfish pepper soup for the guests. The celebration was ongoing when the monarch, Nureni Oduwaye, entered.

The deejay was playing and everyone was dancing. I was surprised as the celebrant and the queen were singing secular music. I commended them because people of their age and status don’t usually like secular music, let alone knowing the lyrics,” Wasiu said. The Ogun State indigene said suddenly, the monarch asked him to identify himself and he said he was the younger brother of the owner of the hotel.

He claimed that the Oduwaye angrily left for his car, adding that the hotel owner and the husband of the celebrant ran after him, but Iya Alaje’s husband returned and instructed him to apologise to the monarch. He explained.. “The queen was even asking what I did wrong but for the sake of peace, I went to apologise to him. When I got to where he was, I started begging him. I told him I was informed that he was annoyed because I was dancing with his queen and said I did not dance with her.

As I was attempting to lie down to continue begging, he used his leg to kick my left eye. The injury in my eye was so severe that I was rushed to a nearby hospital from where I was transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.

The monarch only checked on me once and as I am speaking to you, I can no longer see with my left eye. I am blind in my left eye. The case was reported at the Area Command, Sagamu, but nothing was done because the police refused to carry out an investigation. The incident happened on September 21, 2022; I want justice.”

Pay our outstanding benefits before you leave office, Ekiti teachers tell Fayemi

The teachers in Ekiti State have urged outgoing governor, Kayode Fayemi, to settle their outstanding benefits before the expiration of his tenure on 15 October.

The teachers are owed several months of unpaid salaries and gratuities of retirees, but are hopeful that the governor could still perform “magic” before the end of his tenure.

The teachers, who were at a ceremony on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti to commemorate the World Teachers Day, commended Mr Fayemi for initiating laudable programmes for the educational sector.

The teachers, under the auspices of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), warned the incoming government of Biodun Oyebanji not to compromise their welfare if a cordial relation would exist between the unions and the government.

The ASUSS Chairman, Sola Adigun, who spoke on behalf of the teachers, said teachers were still optimistic that some of their pending benefits would be paid within the next 10 days before Mr Fayemi bows out of office.

“We have so many unpaid benefits. Our salary, promotion, pension and gratuity arrears of retirees are there,” he said.

“We have that belief that Governor Fayemi can still do the magic and pay off before leaving on October 16.

“Though, we appreciate the fact that the state’s economy was not that buoyant, but you can still make the teachers happy before you go, while your successor will begin where you stopped.”

The teachers noted that the sector remains the most thriving industry that requires every resource for it to blossom.

Mr Fayemi used the occasion to reward outstanding teachers at both primary and secondary schools with cars and cash gifts.

He said the quality of their teaching had exponentially increased school enrolment from 191,117 in 2018 to 261,292 in 2022.

Mr Fayemi added that the increase in enrolment automatically resulted in the need to establish additional 10 secondary schools in 2021, while government paid the N6 billion counterpart fund to match UBEC’s contribution to execute 886 projects.

“As I speak now, under two World Bank assisted programmes, AGILE and IDEAS, renovation of structures/provision of furniture and equipment in 202 schools and upgrading of facilities in three technical colleges, are ongoing,” he said.

“Moreover, 1,558 teachers were employed by SUBEB, TESCOM and BTVE within the past four years.

“So far, we have disbursed N655 million as running grants to public schools in Ekiti State. Similarly, we have paid a total of N1,044,941,450 to enable 57,465 public school students sit for WAEC examination over the past four years.”

6 Policemen Nabbed For Allegedly Using POS To Extort N100k From Lagos Resident

The six police officers of Lagos Police Command on interrogation for extorting of N100,000 from a young Nigerian simply identified as Oluwagbadura.

Six officers of Lagos Police Command have been arrested for interrogation for allegedly extorting the sum of N100,000 from a young Nigerian simply identified as Oluwagbadura.

The victim of the extortion had on his verified Twitter handle late Thursday narrated how the policemen collected the sum of N100,000 using a POS.

He claimed that around 2:45 p.m., some police officers stopped him at Soliki, Aguda, Lagos and conducted the usual search on him.

Oluwagbadura alleged that at about 3:44 p.m., the officers escorted him to a POS and withdrew N100,000 of his hard earned money.

“After the search and not finding anything on me, they proceeded to seize my phone and company laptop and tagged me a yahoo boy.

“My crime, they said, is that I do not have an ID card as a freelancer.

“They searched my phone. They called me a criminal for chatting with my friends on WhatsApp.

“They threatened to shoot and lock me up! Next, they took me to their station, just few meters away, then forced me to admit to being a criminal,” he said.

Oluwagbadura further said that he refused to admit committing any crime, stressing that the officers then asked him to write a statement and thereafter, signed papers to bail himself.

“I transferred N100,000 to the POS vendor, and then paid N2,000 for charges (which was screenshot.)”.

He said that there were six officers and one of them threatened to deal with him in cell and nothing would happen.

He said some of them were in mufti, including the one who acted as their lead.

“All of these things happened at the Police divisional headquarters, Soliki Aguda. I need Justice and my money back, please,” he tweeted.

His tweets went viral and attracted the attention of the Police.

However, Lagos Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the men involved in the extortion have been identified and summoned to the headquarters in Ikeja.

He added that the N100,000 extorted from the victim has also been recovered and returned to him.

“Six policemen are involved in the matter. They have been summoned to the headquarters in Ikeja for interrogation.

“The money involved has been collected back for the owner,” he said.

Customs Impounds Dangote Trucks For Smuggling In Ogun

Two Dangote trucks and 23 trailers have been impounded by the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command for allegedly smuggling in foreign rice hidden in bags of cement.

The Area Controller, Bamidele Makinde, revealed that the seized Dangote vehicles were not owned by the company but were operated by individuals who transport cement on franchise agreement with the company.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, no official statement from has been made by Dangote Nigeria Plc regarding this development.
