A 49-year-old man, Ganiyu Shina, resident in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was yesterday arrested while allegedly washing his body by a community river bank with a substance suspected to be blood.
Residents of Kotopo community of Odeda local government area said they sighted the suspect having a bath at the river bank and arrested him.
The suspect reportedly parked his Nissan commercial vehicle by the roadside, came out with a local sponge and container filled with blood and started washing his body with it.Shina was said to have fled when he discovered that he was being watched.
However, he was chased and apprehended by members of the community, who handed him him to the police.

A statement signed by his children, said the Lagos politician and former minister passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in Madrid, Spain.
“It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude to Almighty Allah that we announce the loss of our much loved and admired patriarch, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, His Excellency, Ambassador Ademola Rasaq Atanda Seriki (CON) on December 15th, 2022, the statement reads.
“He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Madrid, Spain.”
Two members of a kidnap syndicate, Umar Mohammed and Aliyu Mohammed were on Wednesday 14th of December 2022 arrested by men of Ogun state Police Command, while a kidnap victim Olorunsogo Oluwaseyi was rescued unhurt.
The suspects were arrested following information received by men of Ewekoro divisional headquarters, that the kidnappers, who abducted the victim at Soyooye area of Abeokuta were sighted in a forest at Onigbedu area of Ewekoro local government area.
On the strength of the information, the DPO Ewekoro division, CSP Sunday Opebiyi, mobilized his men in collaboration with so-safe corpsmen, Hunters, Vigilantes, and some youths of the community and stormed the said forest.
On sighting the men, the kidnappers fired gunshots at them, but the superior firepower of the policemen overpowered them, consequent upon which two members of the syndicate were arrested and the victim rescued, while others escaped.
The victim, Olorunsogo Oluwaseyi was abducted in front of his house at Soyooye area of Abeokuta at about 7:45 pm on the 12th of December 2022 by a six-man kidnap gang.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, says recovered from the arrested suspects are; one single-barrel gun with two live cartridges, two expended cartridges, a bag belonging to the victim and some clothes.

This is not without connection with how some political parties loyalists accuse him of partiality and unprofessionalism on how he discusses political issues.
Taking to his Twitter account on Wednesday, he wrote “Some people want me sacked. Hahahahahah. Joke of the year.”
Then he threw a jab at the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is believed to be hiding from attending debates and TownHall meetings.
He continued, “Pls attend debate and TownHall. Rufai is not your problem oooo. Let your candidate come for debates.”
This is coming following the Arise TV’s allegations that they received secret calls from top members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign organization to sack its presenter, Rufai Oseni, reactions have continued to trail the call.
The station, however, in response, stated that it does not fire journalists because of their views.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages (LASPG), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo) on Tuesday, 13 December, 2022, announced the placement of all female commercial bus drivers in the state on a monthly payment.
The gesture, he said, would complement their earnings.
Akinsanya, while addressing over 500 female commercial bus drivers at the agency’s secretariat in Agege, promised more welfare packages for all drivers in the state.
He donated N500,000 cash to a female driver, Meimunat Ahmed, who is down with a partial stroke.
He also ordered the immediate procurement of a bus engine worth N600,000 for another woman to continue her trade.
He urged the women to always be good ambassadors of the agency in dealing with commuters.
According to him, many would try to take advantage of them being behind the wheel but appealed to them to show maturity in relating with such people.
“On our own part, we will continue to watch your back and ensure that people do not harass you while going about your legitimate duties,” he said.
He enjoined them to shun acts that could dent the renewed image of the agency.
The women thanked Akinsanya for the gesture.
They promised to project a better image of the agency.

The telecoms giant has rolled out different programmes in the past via its MTN Foundation to support Nigerian businesses and entrepreneurs. Still, the latest campaign aims at selecting 100 small businesses and start-ups that would undergo mentorship and training.

The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has yesterday held a town hall meeting in Eruwa purposely to interact with the people of the town and address their concerns about governance issues in Ibarapa Zone.
Makinde while speaking at the town hall meeting, talked about some ongoing projects in the zone and other projects which his administration has given a nod to commence within the next few weeks.

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday passed a total of ₦1,768,014,155,285 as the budget for 2023 with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, thanking the lawmakers for their collective sacrifice and swiftness with which the Appropriation Bill was handled.
A breakdown of the approved budget size shows the sum of N748,096,508,571 as Recurrent expenditure and N1,019,917,646,713 as Capital expenditure for the year ending 31st December, 2023.
A part of the breakdown for the sectoral allocations also shows that N3,228,396,960 was approved as the new Overhead Cost of the Office of Civic Engagement for drug abuse advocacy.
The sum of N802,987,206 was approved as the new Capital Expenditure of the Ministry of Economic Planning & Budget while N1,200,000,000 was approved as the new Overhead Cost (Social Intervention and Humanitarian Programme) in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
Dr. Obasa, who presided over the plenary, said the passion with which the lawmakers processed the bill for passage showed their love for the progress of Lagos State.
He also expressed hope that residents of the State would show their satisfaction with the lawmakers and the All Progressives Congress (APC) by voting for candidates of the party in Lagos and at the centre during the forthcoming election.

The scarcity of fuel as a result of hoarding by some owners of filing stations has resulted into fire incident at a shopping complex in Saki, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.
The fire which engulfed Arolu Shopping Complex at Old-Kara Market, Sanngo, Saki occured in the afternoon today.
Recall that few weeks ago, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria IPMAN and PTD had subjected the Saki community into artificial fuel scarcity which affected a lot of motorists and the entire people of the community.
“Thus, the scarcity has given the entrepreneurs an opportunity to engage in black market and it led to hoarding of fuel which later resulted to this unfortunate incident.
It was learnt that an opportunist, a woman who took the advantage of artificial scarcity embarked on hoarding of PMS, Diesel and engine oil and stored together in the same room for the purpose of resell on black market rate.
It was gathered that the woman could not sell the remaining PMS due to the availability of fuel in almost all the filling stations in Saki.
