The Arole Oduduwa & Ooni of Ile-Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 played host to some lawmakers seeking to hold principal officials at the National Assembly (House of Representatives).

Led by aspirants for the Speakership and Deputy Speakership positions, Hon. Tajudeen Abass and Hon. Kalu respectively, the lawmakers who have been reelected and their new counterparts alike under the aegis of Unity Group, sought the support of the frontline monarch.

Receiving the politicians, Ooni Ogunwusi who doubles as Co-chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria(NCTRN) prayed for Abbas and his running mate, urging them to take Nigeria first in the discharge of their duties if elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

“May God be with you and bless your aspirations. May you not be too big to serve the people. May you not be too big to serve the interest of our nation. May you not jettison and forget the interest of our people, may God put the love of the people in your heart and may God also put the interest of your party secondarily in your heart.” Ooni prayed.

Earlier in his address, the lawmaker representing Zaria Federal Constituency (Kaduna State), Hon. Tajudeen lauded the Ooni for his international peace Initiative which has earned the monarch global repute.

“Nigeria is blessed with our diversity and there is need for all of us to come together collectively for the betterment of our dear nation and that is why all members-elect of the House of Representatives that followed me down here to pay homage to our highly revered Ooni cut across the 6 geopolitical zones which include both major and minor political zones in Nigeria.” Abass said.

Stressing on the roles of traditional rulers in engineering National Unity, the lawmaker promised to, if elected, activate constitutional roles for traditional rulers in Nigeria through the instrument of the National Assembly.

Hon. Kalu praised the African foremost king promoting the African traditional culture globally, calling the Ooni one of the beauties of Nigeria especially to those that believe in the unity of our nation. He confirmed the role of the monarch in ensuring the national Unity and equally attested to Ooni’s roles in making Nigeria a progressive Nation which was evident in the recent cultural and economic trip the the king took to Brazil and Kenya recently as a Pan African King.

While officially presenting Hon. Abass, Hon Kalu and the accompanying legislators(elect) from across the 6 geopolitical zones, the Prince of Alaafin Royalty and member representing Oyo Federal Constituency, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi(Skimmeh) said reason for the visit was to get fatherly blessings from the Ooni being The Traditional Head of The Yoruba Race Worldwide and in his capacity as Co-chairman of National of Council Nigerian Traditional rulers who has tirelessly championed peace, unity and progress of not just Nigeria but for the entire continent of Africa.

Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, May 18, 2023, arrested a Youth Corps member, Ogundahunsi Victor Damilare and twenty-three (23) others for their alleged cybercrime activities.

They were arrested at different areas of Ibadan, Oyo State following intelligence regarding their fraudulent cyber activities.

Other suspected internet fraudsters are Habeeb Lawal Abdulateef, Jaiye Gbolahan Emmanuel, Giwa Usman Dolapo, Olawale Tosin Segun, Bisoye Muiz Abioye, Adesina Jubril Ayomide, Opeyemi Fatolu, Salami Afeez Adewale, John Kayode, Olatunde Abass, Odeniyi Faruq Idowu, Dada Olaitan, Ilugbo Emmanuel Adekunle, Oladokun Peter Ayomide, Ogundele Gbolahan Muiz, Olawale Jokolola David, Odeniyi Kehinde Adebayo, Ibrahim Ayobami, Enikankiselu Samuel, Azeez Hassan Ayobami, Okunola Samuel, Giwa Areef Olakunle and Akinade Oluwaseun Abimbola.

Items recovered include five exotic cars, thirty-five (35) mobile phones, laptops, one Series 5 i-watch, among others.

They will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The founder of First City Monument Bank, FCMB, Subomi Balogun is dead.

He was reported to have died in London on Friday morning.

He was aged 89.

A direct descendant of Oba Tunwase of Ijebu-Ode, Otunba Balogun until his death held the chieftaincy titles Otunba Tunwase of Ijebuland, Olori Omoba of Ijebuland and the Asiwaju of Ijebu Christians.

Osogbo: 18/05/2023 – The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has approved the appointment of a new Iyaloja General of Osun State, Chief Oyebode Aderonke Mary.

In a statement by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described the new Iyaloja General as “a strong leader of business women in Osun state who has contributed immensely to the growth and development of Commerce.

“We approve her appointment with all sense of responsibility and confidence in her ability to pilot the affairs of women in commerce for the collective prosperity of Osun state”, the Governor was quoted as saying.

The inauguration for the new Iyaloja General is to be held next week.

The former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has declined an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, over an investigation involving money laundering.

Our correspondent sighted an invitation letter dated 12th May 2023, sent to Fayemi by the EFCC.

According to the letter, the Commission said it needed clarifications from Fayemi as part of the investigation.

The statement further disclosed that Fayemi’s scheduled interview with the EFCC would be held on 18th May 2023.

However, Fayemi who had acknowledged the receipt of the commission’s letter via his legal representatives claimed he would not be available for the interview on that particular day.

The former Minister of Solid Minerals stated that he would be engaged in the presentation and launching of two new books in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

A Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday granted an application for extension of remand of afrobeat singer Seun Kuti for additional four days.

Mr Simon Lough (SAN), led a police legal team to the court, and moved the application, saying that the extension is to allow further investigation into the case.

Kuti is charged with assaulting a police officer.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Olatubosun, extended Kuti’s remand until May 22.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a suspected cable thief in possession of a 20-metre long cable belonging to the Lagos State Electricity Board.

The suspect, Benjamin Iggba ‘m’ aged 20, was apprehended by RRS officers patrolling the Old Toll Gate, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023.

He and three others who subsequently fled upon sighting the police patrol vehicle were attempting to load the cable into a Volkswagen Golf.

Additionally, two diggers, one shovel and armoured cables were recovered from him during his arrest.

While the suspect is currently facing prosecution, the Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi has charged his men to intensify efforts to arrest the three suspects who are at large.
