OSOGBO-09/06/2023-OSSG: Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has advocated strong maintenance culture across public institutions and an end to the so-called ‘Nigerian culture’ in the management of public buildings.
Speaking at the commissioning of two separate projects at the Osun State University on Friday, Governor Adeleke bemoaned the usual neglect of public buildings after commissioning, lamenting that such practices led to loss of public resources incurred through renewed building of public facilities.
The Governor affirmed that it is high time the nation abandoned the negative label of ‘Nigerian culture’, which he said in reality means neglect, abandonment, and waste of public buildings due to lack of maintenance.
“The nation will save a lot of resources if bureaucrats and public managers can consciously introduce and enforce protocols on public building management, the Governor advised.
The Governor promised that in Osun State, enforcement of maintenance culture will be a priority going forward.
” We are commissioning these landmark projects today with commendation to the University management. My directive is that the university management must implement strict maintenance practices. It does not cost much to maintain public buildings. We will save a lot of money if we can keep in proper shape our public buildings and facilities.
” We have seen many great public buildings going to waste due to lack of maintenance. This should not happen to the buildings we are commissioning today,” the Governor directed.
Governor Adeleke also approved the construction of the link road leading to the Folorunsho Alakija Teaching Hospital.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect.
The office of the Secretary to Federation announced his suspension.
“This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy”, stated from suspension note.
“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.”
A chef identified as Damilola Adeparusi has begun a 120-hour cooking marathon in Oye Local Government Area in Ekiti State.
This is coming barely after chef Hilda Baci broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual with a 100-hour record time
Adeparusi has hit 15 hours of the 120 hours earmarked for cooking.
Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the Lagos house of assembly, says the legislature will make laws in the areas of property and economy to protect indigenes of the state.
On Tuesday, Obasa was unanimously re-elected as speaker after the proclamation of the state’s 10th assembly by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state.
The emergence of Obasa as the speaker of the 10th assembly means that he will be occupying the position for the third consecutive term.
In his acceptance speech, the speaker said Lagos is a “Yoruba land” and that laws passed by the assembly will now be translated to Yoruba language.
Obasa added that the assembly will ensure that laws are made to protect the interests of indigenous people of Lagos, adding that lawmakers will “reverse all that is reversible to protect the interest of the indigenes”.
“Lagos is a Yoruba land as against the assertions of some people that it is a no-man’s land,” he said.
“Therefore, part of our legislative agenda is to ensure the translation of laws passed by this House to Yoruba Language.
“We also aim at achieving our collective goals of creating a robust legislative framework that protects the interest of our people.
“Going forward in this wise, we are going to employ all legislative instruments for the support of the indigenes of Lagos.
“There would be laws and resolutions in the areas of economy and commerce, property and titles.”
In the build-up to the February and March elections in Lagos, there were divisive statements made on and off social media.
The rhetoric heightened tension during the election, amid reports of intimidation and harassment of voters who were not indigenes of the state, on election day.
The Ayedero of Yorubaland, Honourable (Dr.) Shina Abiola Peller, has urged the returning members of the House of Representatives to extend his cordial relationship with them in the last four years to his successor, Honourable Shina Oyedeji aka O’Shine.
Honourable Peller, who represented Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency at the ninth National Assembly, made this appeal yesterday after attending the valedictory session of the House.
The Ayedero, who described the last four years in the House as “awesome” added that it served as great opportunity for him to know how government works, especially in the legislative arm. He also recalled that it was a deliberate plan on his part not to return to the House for second term. He added that his decision was driven by his desire to give room for the other zone of his constituency to produce the next representative which hasn’t happened in the last 16 years.
Similarly, Honourable Peller used the avenue to acknowledge the leadership feat of the House Speaker, Rt. Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, describing it as outstanding and remarkable. He noted that the Speaker was able to steer, stabilize and put the House together as one in spite of the different political, religious and ethnic affiliation of members.
Honourable Peller thanked his constituents for giving him the opportunity to serve them, while he urged them to give overwhelming support to his successor in the overall interest of the constituency.

“Yesterday, we had the valedictory session which marked the end of the 9th House of Representatives.
The last 4 years in the House has been so awesome as it gave me the opportunity to know how government works especially in the legislative arm. It also gave me the opportunity to work and mingle with different personalities with diverse culture from different federal constituencies of the federation.
“I must acknowledge and appreciate the outstanding and remarkable leadership feats of our speaker, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who was able to steer, stabilize and put the House together as one, for good four years notwithstanding our different political affiliations.
“Unfortunately, I won’t be returning to the House for a second term, which was the plan from the onset in order to give room for the other zone of my constituency to produce the next representative which hasn’t happened in the last 16 years.
“As I sign out from the 9th National Assembly, I hope that the cordial relationship that I have built with members in the House will be transferred to my successor, Hon. Shina Oyedeji (O’Shine) of Kajola Local Govt, in the overall interest of my constituency which is made up of four local governments namely Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola and Iwajowa.
“To God be the glory for everything! Special thanks to the loving people of my constituency for giving me the opportunity to serve them.”
The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has replied critics for criticizing him over his serial visitations to President Bola Tinubu at Aso Villa.
Makinde made this statement yesterday during the valedictory dinner of the Ninth Oyo State House of Assembly held at Golden Tulip Hotel, Ibadan.
Recall, Makinde as well as his counterparts in G-5 Govs was all over the news yesterday after visiting President Tinubu in Abuja.
Makinde while speaking said, “people want me to stop going to Aso Rock, they abuse me for visiting President Tinubu in Abuja. I ask them, who do they want me to be visiting, them or Bola Tinubu?.
“I will continue to visit our President, you want to stop me from visiting someone who holds food in his hand, someone with all resources, I will always visit my President so that I can get something from him for the people of Oyo State”, said Makinde.
Makinde also used the occasion to laud the Ninth Assembly for the support given to his administration in the last four years.

The 9th Oyo State House of Assembly has surpassed all previous records of past achievements in the annals of the State legislature.
The Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin disclosed this at the valedictory session of the House held on Thursday.
Hon Adebo Ogundoyin said the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly has not only broken the previous record on the number of bills passed, but it has also hit high spots in all parameters and yardsticks to measure outstanding success.
He stated that a total of 109 bills were considered by the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly in 4years and 97 bills were passed with 8 outstanding.
The Speaker said before now the 7th Oyo State House of Assembly held the record of the highest number of bills passed which were 70 with 23 . outstanding.
” For instance, 7th Assembly in Oyo State holds the record of the highest number of bills passed which were 70 with 23 outstanding. Close to this record was 8th Assembly which passed 68 bills with 16 outstanding. But now we remain the best and first in the annals of legislature in Oyo State. I made bold to say here that, we have succeeded in passing close to 100 bills. For record, 109 Bills were considered and 97 Bills were passed with 8 outstanding.
” These bills are to address critical sectors and issues such as agriculture and food security, economy, education, healthcare, ease of doing business, youth empowerment, social inclusion and protection, domestic resource flow and infrastructure.” Oyo Speaker said
According to Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, the 9th Oyo Assembly has about 150 Motions and Matters of Urgent Public Importance, as well as over 400 Resolutions and not less than 90 Committee Reports.
He added further that the Assembly carried out its oversight functions in the last four years with utmost diligence which he stressed ensured accountability and transparency in the governance process.
” Another significant achievement of the 9th Assembly is the extensive number of public hearings conducted. We have actively engaged with stakeholders, experts, and the public, aggregating their valuable inputs before making our legislative decisions. By embracing inclusivity and participatory governance, we have ensured that the people’s voices are heard, and their interests are represented in our policies.”
The Speaker said establishment of a website and a Media Studio for the State House of Assembly, as well as passages of financial autonomy bills for both the legislature and the judiciary are some of the other unique achievements of 9th Assembly.
Hon Adebo Ogundoyin commended the State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for not only supporting the legislature in all its activities but also believing in the capacity of the lawmakers , and according them due respect.
” I must emphasize the commendable working relationship between the members of this Assembly and our dedicated staff. The harmonious relationship amongst the lawmakers led to a rancor and crisis free Assembly in the last four years. The synergy, cooperation, and mutual respect among us have been crucial to our success. I express my heartfelt appreciation to our staff for their professionalism, competence, and unwavering support.

He urged his colleagues to carry the spirit of dedication and hard work demonstrated in the last four years to their future endeavors and activities.
The Federal Government has declared Monday, June 12 as a public holiday in commemoration of 2023 Democracy Day celebration.

While congratulating Nigerians on the occasion, Akinlade stated that the country’s democratic journey has encountered stormy and smooth sails, just like in many other climes.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Ibadan chapter has enjoined security operatives not to waste more time to track down and arrest killers of one of its members.
ASUU made this disclosure on Thursday.
ODUDUWA NEWS recalls that a member of the union, Professor Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole of the department of Social and environmental forestry development at the University of Ibadan was killed by yet to be identified individuals.
ASUU told the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba to assist the Oyo State Police Command with all logistics support needed to unravel and arrest the killers of the don.
The union made these declarations in a statement signed by its Chairman, Professor Ayo Akinwole.
Akinwole, in the statement made available to ODUDUWA NEWS tasked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take passionate interest and ensure the security operatives unmasked the faces behind the murder of the deceased.
He condemned the gruesome murder of Adewole in totality.
“The hearts of every ASUU-UI member are bleeding so profusely as if pierced by swords. Our bones shook so tremendously as if our marrows were naked in the tundra region.
“We condemn in totality the gruesome murder of our comrade, Professor Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole and charge the security operatives to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of this dastardly act, with a view to unravelling the motive behind the incident, as well as bringing the perpetrators to book.
“The Union wishes to use this teary occasion of Professor Ajewole’s sudden death to call on the Nigerian state to resolutely tackle the problem of insecurity in the country, apprehend the killers of Professor Ajewole and punish them most appropriately.
“This is the least tribute that this nation can pay to our fallen hero and friend- Professor Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole.”
