Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a cash reward of ₦10 million for Miss Isioma Sybil Nwosu, the overall best graduating student of Lagos State University.

Nwosu, who graduated with a first-class degree in Biochemistry and a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93, was honored at the 28th convocation ceremony held at the LASU campus in Ojo.

The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, praised Nwosu’s dedication and perseverance, noting that her success was a source of pride for the university community.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing quality education for youth, stressing the importance of academic excellence alongside success in other fields like entertainment, fashion, and sports.

He also announced that the state government is partnering with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ensure that students from Lagos State-owned institutions benefit from the national student loan program, making higher education more accessible.

“Education is the backbone of our society,” Sanwo-Olu said, emphasizing its role in addressing societal needs and fostering human development. He also commended LASU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello for her leadership, noting the university’s commitment to excellence and producing graduates capable of driving societal progress.

During the event, honorary doctorates were conferred upon former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Chairman Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, and Prof. Joseph Abayomi Olagunju, who was recognized as a distinguished professor.

A newly trained Police Constable in Ekiti State has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a man during a heated altercation in Ise-Ekiti.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a minor dispute between the officer’s girlfriend and the victim’s son, which quickly spiraled into a v+olent confrontation.

According to witnesses, the constable, accompanied by another officer, stormed the victim’s home under the guise of arresting the boy. When they couldn’t find him, the officers allegedly turned on the boy’s father and elder brother, attacking them. During the chaos, the father was reportedly stabbed in the hand.

The case gained widespread attention after the victim’s daughter, Priscillia Jerome, posted a video on social media accusing the officers of unlawful entry, assault, and abuse of power. The video went viral, sparking public outrage and calls for justice.

Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the suspect is a recently trained constable who had not yet been issued a service w+apon. “He is currently in custody and under investigation. Thank God he wasn’t armed yet—who knows what might have happened,” CP Eribo stated.

Police spokesperson SP Abutu Sunday added that the Deputy Commissioner of CID has been directed to take over the investigation to ensure transparency and accountability.

Adebayo Adeleke, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the Oyetola administration, has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of paralyzing Osun State’s local government administration.

Speaking at a parley hosted by the Osun Online Publishers Association, Adeleke claimed the current administration is “illegally spending LG allocations” and blocking reinstatement of elected APC council chairmen.

“During my time, Oyetola never touched LG funds. This government is milking them dry,” he said.

He further accused the governor of:
Manipulating the last LG elections.

Opposing LG autonomy despite being in court to block it. Overspending ministries like Youth and Sports, which allegedly jumped from N2bn to N13bn in one year.

Deceiving Osun people with grand but incomplete road projects.

“You demolish homes in Lameco and Ilesa without compensation, and bring ex-leaders to open half-finished roads,” he added.

The Federal Government, through the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has officially banned the broadcast of veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest protest song, ‘Tell Your Papa’, on all radio and television stations across the country.

In a memo dated April 9, 2025, and sent to broadcast stations nationwide, the NBC described the song as “objectionable” and in clear violation of Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which prohibits content deemed “inappropriate, offensive, or in breach of public decency.”

The directive, titled “Restriction on Broadcasting ‘Tell Your Papa’ by Eedris Abdulkareem”, was signed by Susan Obi, Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring at the Commission.

According to the memo:

“The National Broadcasting Commission has identified the song ‘Tell Your Papa’ by Eedris Abdulkareem, currently trending on social media, as content deemed inappropriate for broadcast due to its objectionable nature.”

Though the directive does not mention President Bola Tinubu by name, the track’s biting critique of leadership and governance under the current administration is believed to have prompted the broadcast ban.

The Commission urged all media outlets to exercise discretion and strictly comply with the ban to uphold “responsible broadcasting standards.”

Controversial journalist Kemi Olunloyo has publicly rejected condolence messages following her father’s death, revealing a traumatic childhood marked by emotional and physical torture, alleged occult practices, and infidelity that tore her family apart.

In a video posted on her social media page, Kemi Olunloyo dismissed sympathisers, directing them to her late father’s Facebook page instead. She recounted years of pain, accusing him of destroying their family through abuse, deception, and reckless decisions that led to a horrific incident that paralyzed her younger brother.

Kemi Olunloyo claimed she had a traumatic childhood event when her father’s selfishness led to her been molested sexually while her brother was paralyzed . At 13, Olunloyo recounted, her family was set to travel to Lagos, but her father delayed them for hours, claiming he was at work. Her mother warned against the late trip, but he insisted.

“We left late, and on the way, hoodlums attacked us,” she shared. A rock was hurled into their car, striking her 8-year-old brother, Tayo, and the driver, who died instantly. The assailants then set the vehicle ablaze with the children inside. A rescuer pulled Kemi Olunloyo out, but she hit her head on the pavement and was forced to watch her brother burn alive. She was then sexually assaulted before being rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where she received 17 stitches.

Years later, Olunloyo discovered her father’s delay that day was due to an affair. “He lied. He was sleeping with his mistress while we waited,” she said, her voice laced with bitterness. “My assault all of it was his fault.”

Declaring she would never forgive him, Olunloyo made it clear she felt no grief over his passing. “I am not mourning. Send your condolences to his Facebook if you want. I’m still healing from the trauma he caused.”

Farmers resident in Ondo State on Tuesday, April 8, stormed the streets of Akure to protest the killing of four of their colleagues by some armed men suspected to be herders.

The farmers in a bid to express their anger dumped the bodies of their colleagues on the street near the office of the governor.

Despite the promise by the security agencies in the State to rise to the situation by cracking down on the culprits, the killings have continued unabated.

A viral video discovered by our correspondent reveal how the embittered farmers have chosen to open a full-fledged protests while also brandishing the pale, lifeless bodies of their colleagues at the Alagbaka Roudabout, very close to the Governor’s office.

The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 capital budget proposals of 33 local government areas in the state.

This became imperative ahead of the proposed financial autonomy for Local Governments.

The approval was made Tuesday when the report of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours was presented by its Chairman, Hon. Akintunde Olatunde Emmanuel (Lagelu).

The budget approval is aimed at streamlining expenditures of all the 33 Local Government areas of Oyo State for probity and accountability to enable them deliver on their mandates.

The committee urged all the Local governments to adhere to the approved capital expenditures so as to ensure compliance with the Constitution and Local Governments Law.

Part of the recommendations of the Committee is for the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Association of Local Government in Nigeria (ALGON) to organize a workshop on budgeting and budgetary control for local government chairmen and management staff to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin said the approval of the local governments’ budget is a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

” As the Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, this is the narrative we are pushing across the country in preparation for the proposed financial autonomy for Local Governments in Nigeria.”

Premised on the gradual return to peace in the three warring communities of Ilobu- Ifon- Erin Osun in both Irepodun and Ifon-Orolu local governments, Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has directed that the hitherto 17 hours curfew imposed by his administration in the three warring communities be relaxed to 12 hours.

The relaxation of the curfew is sequel to the different security reports reaching the governor that the much expected ceasefire is taking the centre stage on a daily basis.

Accordingly, the Governor has directed that the curfew should, beginning from today, Tuesday (08/4/2025) commence from 7pm to 7am on a daily basis until further notice.

A press statement issued by the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi quoted Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke as saying ;

“Now that peace is gaining the centre stage on a daily basis, it gladdens my heart, as the Governor and Chief Security Officer of Osun State to announce the relaxation of the curfew earlier imposed on Ifon-Ilobu- Erin Osun communities from 17 hours to 12 hours daily with effect from today.

“As a Governor, I am again reaffirming my commitment to do everything morally and officially possible at my executive disposal to bring the communal fracas in the three communities to an amicable end.

“So far, I am equally happy to say that the traditional rulers of the three communities and their subjects have been living up to the desired expectations in ensuring gradual return to peace. This is good and heart warming. I urge them to keep the tempo high in this regard

“In the same vein, the new trend in the time frame of the curfew, will also allow our children who want to write WAEC, NECO and JAMB Examinations to be able to do so without any form of hindrance, as we cannot allow their future to be mortgaged .

“However, I am still directing that the joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps should continue to maintain their usual 24-hour surveillance to ensure zero tolerance on any act of lawlessness.

“This is not without reiterating the need for all stakeholders to cooperate by embracing the much sought peace in the three communities as anybody/group/ community caught or found wanting in fomenting or aiding the crisis in one way or the other will be made to face the music in line with the dictates of the law of Nigeria .

“I am seizing this opportunity to, once again, remind and direct the 100 member crisis resolution committee on Ifon, Ilobu and Erin Osun communal mayhem set up by this administration in the wake of the crisis few months ago to expedite their assignments so as to find a lasting solution to the problem. My administration and the entire people of Osun state will not settle for less from your committee in giving us a leeway towards ensuring a lasting resolution to the age long communal disputes.

“I urge all sons and daughters of the three communities at home and in diaspora to cooperate with me and my administration to bring this crisis to an end once and for all.

“It is only in an atmosphere of peace and unity that the much sought growth and development can be achieved in the three communities of Ifon, Ilobu and Erin Osun as well as the entire state .” Said Governor Adeleke in the statement.

There was chaos in Ibadan as soldiers had to step in to rescue Ikorodu City FC players and officials after they were nearly attacked by angry fans following a draw against Shooting Stars.

The tense moment unfolded after the match, with opposition supporters expressing frustration over the result.

The military personnel mobilized to the scene to escort the Ikorodu City team to safety, preventing what could have been a violent confrontation.

According to Oduduwa News Correspondent who visited the scene gathered that the fans of Shooting Stars had held the Ikorodu FC players hostage for more than 30 minutes before the arrival of the men of Joint Task Force, Operation Burst that later rescued them from attack by angry fans.
