The passing of Rt. Hon. Musiliu Olaide Adewale Akinremi, fondly known as JAGABAN, has left a significant void in the House of Representatives and within the All Progressives Congress (APC) family in Ibadan North. His absence is deeply felt.
Before the APC released its guidelines for the upcoming bye-election and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the election timetable, over twenty dedicated party members expressed interest in contesting for the vacant seat. After a thorough screening process, ten aspirants—eight men and two women—met the party’s requirements. Each of them displayed remarkable zeal, competence, and unwavering commitment to securing the party’s ticket. Their passion and determination are commendable and deserving of recognition.
However, in every contest, only one candidate emerges. The party has officially announced Hon. Adewale Olatunji, popularly known as Murphy, as the APC flagbearer for the bye-election scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.
As devoted and loyal members of our great party, and in honour of the legacy left behind by Hon. Akinremi JAGABAN, it is both honourable and strategic to set aside differences, forgive past grievances, and come together in unity. Supporting Murphy is not only a tribute to Akinremi’s memory but also a necessary step in strengthening the party for the challenges ahead.
To all aspirants who invested their time, energy, and resources into this race: you fought valiantly. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and your contributions have elevated the party’s strength and visibility—even at the national level. I urge the party leadership to offer continued support and encouragement to these worthy individuals.
I commend our State Party Chairman, Alhaji Pharmacist Olaide Abass, for his impartial leadership and commitment throughout the process. This bye-election is an important milestone for his tenure, and we owe it to him—and to our party—to deliver victory. If today belongs to Murphy, tomorrow could belong to any one of us. Let us embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and carry forward the lessons we’ve learned. We must now stand together and give our full support to the local government party chairman, Alhaji T.A.O. Olayiwola, and his executive team as they lead us into this crucial election. Their success is our collective success.
Lastly, I appeal to our Apex Leaders to come together, close ranks, and foster unity within the party. History will judge us not only by our individual ambitions but by the legacy of unity we leave behind.
The recent Local Government elections in Lagos State were a decisive victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the party securing wins across all 57 LGs/LCDA, including 375 councillor seats. This overwhelming success, however, was not without its challenges. While the APC triumphed in every ward and local government, one ward stood out; Ward D in Yaba LCDA, which became the only ward to lose to an opposition party, the PDP. This singular loss in an otherwise clean sweep by the APC makes the situation in Yaba particularly significant and worthy of investigation, as it raises serious questions about the internal dynamics within the party and the actions of key individuals involved.
The controversy surrounding the APC’s loss in Ward D stems from internal disputes within the Mainland Voice (MV) faction, which has played a prominent role in the party’s operations in Lagos. At the center of these disputes was the selection of the party’s flagbearer for the Ward D councillorship race. Hon. Olanrewaju Oshun, the current Member of the House of Representatives, proposed a candidate as the APC candidate for Ward D, a decision supported by the party leadership. However, this decision was opposed by Jide Jimoh, a former House of Representatives member, who is not from Ward D, and other members of Mainland Voice. Jide Jimoh and his faction sought to replace the suggested candidate with another candidate, contrary to the party’s decision to uphold the principle of party supremacy.
Despite the opposition, the party upheld its decision, and the suggested candidate by the party became the official candidate for Ward D. However, this led to a deep rift within Mainland Voice group, with key figures, including Kayode Omiyale, the Chairman of Yaba LCDA, and Omolola Essien, the Chairman of Lagos Mainland LG actively working against the APC’s chosen candidate. Reports suggest that both Omiyale and Jide Jimoh diverted resources that were intended for the APC to support opposition candidates, particularly from the PDP in Ward D and the AA party in other wards. This blatant undermining of the party’s official candidates raises serious concerns about loyalty and commitment to the APC’s objectives.
While Hon. Olanrewaju Oshun, who proposed the flagbearer, did not directly participate in these anti-party activities, his leadership within Mainland Voice is noteworthy. As a key figure in the faction, Oshun’s failure to intervene and manage the division in his group contributed to the party’s internal discord. His position as a leader within Mainland Voice implicates him in the broader leadership failure, which ultimately led to the loss of his Ward D seat to the PDP. This defeat, in a ward that was otherwise expected to be secured by the APC, can be directly linked to the actions of the Mainland Voice leadership.
Moreover, the actions of Kayode Omiyale and Jide Jimoh, stand in stark contrast to the party’s success in other local governments. For instance, in Somolu Local Government, the APC leadership upheld party supremacy, supporting Ashimi Lateef as the chairmanship candidate, despite some internal disagreements. This commitment to party unity was reflected across the state, where the APC maintained cohesion and delivered a resounding victory in all LGs/LCDAs and 375 councillor races. In contrast, the sabotage in Yaba LCDA, specifically in Ward D; severely undermined the APC’s prospects in the election.
This post, therefore, calls for a thorough investigation into the leadership of Mainland Voice group, including Omolola Essien, Kayode Omiyale, Hon. Jide Jimoh, and Hon. Olanrewaju Oshun. Their actions, whether through active sabotage or failure to prevent internal division, have had a significant negative impact on the APC’s performance, particularly in the loss of Ward D to the PDP. The actions of these individuals must be carefully examined to determine the extent of their involvement in this internal conflict and the subsequent anti-party behaviour that disrupted the party’s chances.
The APC must take immediate steps to hold its leadership accountable, both at the state and national levels. The failure to maintain party unity in Yaba LCDA, especially in the face of overwhelming success in the rest of the state, demands scrutiny. This internal division is not only a threat to the APC’s chances in future elections but also undermines the trust of voters and party members alike.
As the APC moves toward the 2027 general elections, it must prioritize party loyalty and unity above personal interests. Only through a unified and loyal party can the APC hope to secure victory in future elections and continue to serve the people effectively. The leadership of Mainland Voice group must be investigated, and those responsible for sabotaging the APC’s official candidates must be held accountable to restore the party’s integrity and ensure its success moving forward.
In a strategic move aimed at strengthening health systems and improving planning efficiency, the Oyo State Ministry of Health in collaboration Nigeria Health Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) organized a four-day capacity-building programme for health sector leaders and managers across the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.
The training, which held at the Ibadan Business School in Ibadan, Oyo State capital between Monday 14th July to 17th July 2025 was themed “NHSRII Leadership Health Systems Strengthening and Planning: Capacity Development for Health Program Officers and Health Secretaries (Medical Officers of Health) across all the 33 Local Government Health Authorities (LGHAs).” It seeks to enhance the technical and leadership capabilities of key players in the health sector, particularly about the development of a unified and realistic operational plan and realistic health budget for Oyo State.
Speaking during the opening session, the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, stressed the need for collaboration and synergy among all departments, programme officers, and stakeholders involved in the delivery of healthcare services.
“It is time for us as a state to operate as one cohesive team. All program officers, directors, and partners must unite to set realistic and measurable goals for the improvement of healthcare in Oyo State,” Dr. Ajetunmobi stated.
“Currently, different sectors function in silos, but this training aims to harmonize efforts under a single plan, a single budget, and a unified reporting system. This is critical for our journey toward Universal Health Coverage and for achieving better health outcomes, especially in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates,” she added.
The commissioner further noted that the four-day workshop will form the foundation for the development of the 2026 Annual Operational Plan (AOP) for the State Ministry of Health. She emphasized that representatives from all health-related institutions in the state, including Colleges of Nursing Sciences, Health Science and Technology, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Primary Health Care Board, Hospital Management Board, and the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, are participating in the training.
Dr. Oluwatunmise, the State Coordinator for the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), explained that the program is part of a national reform agenda aimed at realigning Nigeria’s health system with global best practices.
“This training was born out of the challenges we encountered while developing last year’s AOP. The current administration, upon reviewing the progress since Nigeria’s first health sector reforms in 1962, concluded that fundamental change is overdue,” Dr. Oluwatunmise explained.
“With the SWAp model, the government assumes full leadership and coordination of the health sector. We’re moving away from fragmented efforts to a unified ‘One Plan’ approach that ensures all MDAs work collaboratively and efficiently.”
This year, the AOP process is being upgraded from an Excel-based format to a modern, web-based platform, enabling easier access, better collaboration, and enhanced accountability.
One of the participants, Feranmi Oladiti, National Health Fellow, expressed optimism about the impact of the training.
“We’re here to understand how to align our state-level plans with the National Health Sector Strategic Plan. This training is essential in helping us structure our operational plans to be both impactful and aligned with national goals,” Oladiti said.
The Oyo State health sector comprises seven key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), all of which are actively participating in the training. These include: • Oyo State Ministry of Health • Oyo State Health Insurance Agency • State Primary Health Care Board • Hospital Management Board • LAUTECH Teaching Hospital • Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences • Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology
The training is expected to produce a comprehensive, well-coordinated roadmap for health sector planning, ultimately contributing to improved service delivery and better health outcomes for residents of Oyo State. It also forms part of a broader national strategy to standardize and enhance health sector planning across Nigeria.
The training ended in grandstyle on thursday with all participants having practical hands on sessions on the new web based AOP Framework.

Your Excellency, The Executive Governor Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde. FNSE, DSC, GSSRS.
Your Excellency,The Deputy Governor Alhaji Barr. AbdRaheem Adebayo LawalMost Outstanding Friend of Ibadan. MOFI.
President General,Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes Barr. Chief Sulaiman Ajeniyi AjewoleAare Atunluse of IbadanlandAll other Protocols duly Observed.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, beloved family members, political associates, friends, and the good people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
We gather here today, one year after the passing of a giant among men, to honor the memory and celebrate the enduring legacy of a remarkable leader, the late Honourable Musiliu Olaide Adewale Akinremi, known affectionately and famously as Jagaban. Our hearts remain heavy with grief, but they are also full—with gratitude, pride, and enduring respect for a man whose life was a radiant example of leadership, compassion, and purpose. We do not mourn a void; we celebrate a legacy. As the philosopher Benjamin Disraeli once said,“The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example.”Hon. Akinremi gave us that great name and that powerful example.🕊️ A Life Devoted to ServiceBorn with a love for his people and an unshakeable belief in public duty, Hon. Akinremi charted a life path defined by humility, resilience, and unrelenting service to humanity. In every sphere he touched—business, politics, family, and philanthropy—he brought integrity, heart, and vision. He was a man whose actions spoke far louder than words. He understood that real leadership meant being accessible, listening to the people, and rolling up his sleeves to serve. As Mahatma Gandhi rightly put it:“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”And Hon. Akinremi found himself in doing just that—serving. Relentlessly. Lovingly.
🏛️ An Unparalleled RepresentativeIt is not an exaggeration to say that Hon. Akinremi Jagaban was the best representative Ibadan North Federal Constituency has ever had since the creation of that seat. He was a towering force in the National Assembly—not because he chased headlines, but because he delivered results. He sponsored and supported key bills and motions with direct relevance to his constituency and Nigeria at large. Whether advocating for better infrastructure, youth empowerment, educational access, or healthcare reforms, he never lost sight of the people he was elected to serve. He embodied the wisdom of Winston Churchill, who said:“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”And give he did—freely, selflessly, abundantly.
🤲 A Man of the PeopleHon. Akinremi was not just a representative in title—he was a servant of the people in every sense. He could be found at town halls, listening carefully. He answered calls directly. He showed up for the aged, for students, for artisans, for the sick, for people living with disabilities and for those who had no one else.He led massive empowerment programs, offered scholarships to hundreds of students, and created vocational opportunities that transformed lives. His love and affection to the notable religious communities was extraordinary. The President General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes hereby seated will bear witness to Hon. Akinremi’s commitment towards Ibadan causes. He never shy away from community development responsibilities.Akinremi never allowed power to distance him from the people. His humility was disarming; his generosity, legendary. It is no wonder that in the eyes of the people, he was not just a politician. He was family.“What you do for yourself dies with you, what you do for others lives on forever.” — Sir Ken RobinsonJagaban’s kindness, his passion, and his impact will live on.
⚖️ The True Meaning of “Jagaban”The title “Jagaban”—a name of strength, influence, and wisdom—fit him perfectly. But he earned it not through loud declarations or political aggression. He earned it through his tireless advocacy, sound judgment, and his ability to bring people together. He stood for justice, inclusion, and excellence. While others focused on political gains, he focused on people. While some played politics for profit, he played it for progress and he transcends party politics. He played politics of love and no bitterness.Simon Sinek once said:“Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.”Jagaban lived this every day.
👨👩👧👦 A Father, Mentor, and FriendTo his beloved family, Hon. Akinremi was a rock of strength and source of love. He modeled the values of dignity, kindness, and discipline in his home. He was a father who led not just with authority but with affection. To his colleagues in the National Assembly, he was a mentor and a respected voice of wisdom. Many younger lawmakers and aides were guided and uplifted by his counsel and quiet support. And to Nigeria, he was a patriot. He believed in a brighter future for our country—and worked every day to bring it closer.
🕯️ A Year Without JagabanToday marks one year since we lost him to eternity. The pain remains. The space he left is still unfilled. But his memory is alive—in our stories, in our streets, in our hearts. As Thomas Campbell once said:“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”Jagaban may be gone from this earth, but he lives on in every scholarship, every rebuilt classrooms, every youth and artisans empowered, every primary health centers, and every life touched by his legacy. As Queen Elizabeth II once noted,“Grief is the price we pay for love.”And we grieve deeply, because we loved deeply.
🌿 Continuing the LegacyOur best tribute to Hon. Akinremi Jagaban is not in marble statues or long eulogies—it is in our actions going forward.Let us honour his legacy by being the kind of people he believed in: people of courage, integrity, unity, and compassion.Let us remember the words of Dr. Seuss:“Don’t cry because they are gone. Smile because they lived.”Indeed, we smile—because Jagaban lived, and he lived well.-

His five years in office has exposed the weaknesses of those who served before him and has created a big challenge for his replacement. His shoes are too big and wide for his successor. He gave us more than representation—he gave us hope. He proved that politics could be clean, leadership could be compassionate, and power could be used for good.“When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”Jagaban is now a treasure in our collective memory, and his legacy is a torch we must continue to carry.May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace. May his legacy inspire generations to come. And may the Almighty reward him eternally for a life of purpose. We remember you, Jagaban. Always. And we thank you. Endlessly.-
