2024 Ibadan North East Chair’ Election: PDP Members, Residents Demands Rotation, Says It’s Constituency 1 Turn, Appeal to Gov Makinde

The residents the members of PDP in Ibadan North East Local Government has appealed to the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party in the state, and specifically Governor Oluseyi Makinde that the party’s chairmanship flag bearer in the 2024 Oyo Local Government Election should be from constituency 1.

According to the people who made the call, they established the fact that the local government is divided into two constituencies for smooth running of the local government and to ensure inclusion of all, and in the last 21years of political administration in the LG, nobody from constituency 1 has been elected Chairman of the Local Government.

In pushing their argument further, some names of past Chairmen of the LG were stated, including the incumbent chairman, all from constituency 2.

According to them, Hon. Gbenga Arole served 2 term, Hon Lekan Afuye and the current chairman Hon Akintayo Ibrahim are all from constituency 2.

The people of the Local Government, therefore call on His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde to intervene and ensure that the party faithfuls and residents of constituency 1 are given a sense of inclusion, as they have competent Son to lead the Local Government.

Oyo PDP Extends Sales Of Form For LG Polls, Re-adjusts Schedule of Activities

The People Democratic Party PDP, Oyo chapter has extended the sales of its form for the coming local government election.

In an announcement signed by its secretary ,Wasiu Adeleke sighted by our medium , the chapter also readjusted it’s schedule of activities.

The Leadership of the Party uses this medium to announce to our Aspirants for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections that after consultations and consideration with our leaders and most importantly, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, we have extended our sales of Forms till Friday 14th of July 2023.

Recall that the sales of form in the initial announcement was supposed to close tomorrow but it has now been extended till Friday.

Makinde Names Abiodun Oni As DG Mineral Devt Agency, Appoints Four Other Aides


The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of the immediate past Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Abiodun Oni, as the Director-General of the Mineral Development Agency of Oyo State and Executive Chairman of the Pacesetter Mineral Development Company.

Similarly, the governor approved the appointment of four other aides.

The governor, through a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, indicated that Mr. Olorundare Olamide Wilson has been appointed as Senior Special Assistant on New Media, while Oluwadare Daniel Aleshinloye, has been reappointed as Special Assistant on Photography.

The duo of Mr. Timilehin Olubiyi and Miss Mobolaji Dada were announced as Special Assistant (New Media I) and Special Assistant (New Media II) respectively.

Association of Medical and Dental Officers of Oyo state (AMDO) suspends strike



Govt set up a negotiating committee.

The Association of Medical and Dental Officers of Oyo State has suspended its four weeks Industrial action embarked upon since 18th May, 2023.

This was disclosed by the Association executives after the state Congress held on 19th June, 2023 where all Members unanimously agreed to suspend the partial strike on the following conditions ;

  1. In the interest of the citizens of Oyo state who have been afffected by the industrial action.
  2. As a mark of respect to the workers friendly Gov. Engr Seyi Makinde who responded by setting up a committee to look into their demands.

3.To give the said committee time to sort the lingering issues and demand a better resolution.

  1. The suspension will stand for six weeks as requested by the negotiating committee.
  2. A Total strike to commence by July 31st 2023 if no headway from the said committee.

It was reported that the committee set up by the Oyo state government assured all issues will be resolved in a few weeks.

The Association executives salute the doggedness of its members and look forward to a speedy resolution of all lingering issues in a good time.

They further restated their loyalty to the govt of Oyo state under the Leadership of worker friendly Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde.

TRIBUTE TO LATE SENATOR ABIOLA AJIMOBI ( THE ARCHITECT OF MODERN OYO STATE)

As stated in the scripture, “Sweet is the memory of the righteous”, you may be gone but you are never forgotten.”. On June 25, 2020, the eagle flew home in a blaze of glory and the world literarily stood still.

Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi was an architect of a new order, an erudite leader, a consummate politician who served the pacesetter state with utmost dedication, love and focus to make Oyo State greater than he met it in his eight years of remarkable achievements and giant strides.

He was indeed a multitask development expert with profound intelligence which made him an accomplished administrator of human and natural resources for the betterment of the people of the state and Nigeria in general.

Despite his death, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi will continue to live in our hearts and in the memory of Oyo State people for his unusual and exceptional unique style of governance that brought peace, growth and development to the state.

In the last three years of his glorious transition, many people are still testifying to his good naturedness and how he brought hope into their lives, even when everything seemed hopeless. Such people are still trusting, that his illuminating spirit lives with them at this end.

May the soul of “oga wa” our courageous and highly intelligent leader continue to rest in peace. God grant him Aljanah Fridaus.”

Ona-Ara Chairmanship: Aare Alao promises timely Bursary Disbursement for Indigent Students as University Of Ibadan Honored Him

An indigenous body in the University of Ibadan Chapter, Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU) on Saturday honored a one-time National President of the union, in the person of Aare Alao Olalekan.

Aare Alao Olalekan who is the Special Assistant on Student, Youth and Sports in Ona-Ara Local Government and also a leading Chairmanship aspirant of Ona Ara local Government is said to be awarded by the University students based on his steadfastness, forthcoming and supportive both moral and financial to the entire Federation of Ibadan Students Union.

While presenting the award, the Guest Speaker, Dr Adams Akewula of the Faculty of Islamic Studies said he was meeting Aare Alao for the very first time but he has been hearing Alao’s good deeds and kind gestures to the Students Community over the years while he encouraged Alao not to relent effort, as the sky is his starting point.

While appreciating the students for the honor bestowed on him, Alao thanked the University of Ibadan FIBSU for finding him worthy to celebrate, he thereafter dedicate the award to the Almighty God and Ibadanland.

Speaking further, Alao hinted to the students about the student bursary recently rolled out by the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, while explaining, Alao, the Ibadan-born young politician urged the students to be patient as shortlisting is ongoing, said all qualified Oyo State Students in various tertiary institutions both in Nigeria and abroad will be beneficiaries.

Alao also promised all students from Ona Ara Local Government to watch out for continuous payment of bursaries to all and adequate empowerment for the youth of the local government if he got the opportunity to be the Council Chairman of Ona Ara.

“I shall be the first Council Chairman in Ibadanland to pay bursary and continuously to indigent students of Ona-Ara Local Government under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde of Omituntun,2.0,” Alao promised.

2023 Children’s Day: “SHE 4 PEACE” unveiled in Ibadan


Women, Peace and Security is a global issue championed by the United Nations Security Council as published in many of her different resolutions to prioritize girls and women in all areas relating to their peace, security and development. This is to give girls and women chance to actively participate in peacebuilding processes especially where there is war and other activities that can endanger their life.


In an attempt not to leave Nigerian girls behind in active participation in all peacebuilding processes, the duo of West Africa Network for Peacebuilding-Nigeria (Oyo State Chapter) and a foremost peacebuilding organization in the South West Region, Kazeem Olubunmi Isolagbenla Foundation through a joint initiative launched the first ever Women, Peace and Security Project “SHE 4 PEACE” in Ibadan to mark this year’s children’s day. Project SHE 4 PEACE is targeted at bringing girls (in senior secondary schools) into the ideals and principles of Women, Peace and Security by catching them young. This understandably will equip them with adequate knowledge and effective skills to live a peaceful life and co-exist with others in the society peacefully.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Ibadan Development Centre (the host organization) Don Micheal Adeniji congratulated the two organizations that initiated the project and all the participants, he noted that ‘there is no better time than now to integrate our girls into the ideals of peacebuilding knowing fully well the challenges girls and women are facing in our societies. He therefore, called on governments and every other stakeholder to prioritize the issues of girls and women by making policies and creating activities that will empower them to live meaningful life.

The Project Coordinator, Kolawole Amusat-Gbenla highlighted the objectives of the unveiled “SHE 4 PEACE” Project to include building capacity of girls to be able to identify their rights, speak out at all times when necessary especially when abused in any form or molested, and empower them to advocate for their rights. He added that the project is targeted at raising about 2000 Women, Peace and Security Advocates in secondary schools within six months.
Also speaking at the event was Dr. Bolanle Omidiji, the Zonal Coordinator, WANEP-Nigeria (South West Zone), she emphasized the importance of parents being good examples of Peace Ambassadors at home which children can emulate. She added that WANEP-Nigeria will continue to play remarkable roles as leading peacebuilding network in Nigeria. The representative of Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion Barrister Adetayo Ayoade appreciated the organizers of the event and commend their efforts for prioritizing issues of girls and women in their programmes. He therefore pledged the Ministry’s unflinching supports to the laudable project.


Other dignitaries at the event include representatives from Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA), Nigeria Police, Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency(OYRTMA) and presentations were made by Whole Planet Initiatives and Society for Peace Studies and Practice. Student from different secondary schools also were in attendance.

Oyo Carrington Youth Fellows Launches Clean City Initiative Project in Ibadan

Yesterday, May 24th, a group of 5 fellows from the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative embarked on a mission to create a sustainable solution to the problem of waste management in Oyo state. The project tagged ‘City Clean Initiative’ (CCI) is a two-fold training program on;

1.  Sustainable solid waste practices, and 
2.  Innovative Management and System thinking.

Sponsored by the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative of the United States’ Consulate, Lagos in Partnership with Access bank and the Oyo State Government, City-Clean Initiative will engage ~40~ 50 students from selected secondary schools within Akinyele Local Government, Ibadan for a period of one month. Yesterday, It featured a brief orientation of the program and short introduction into the courses to be taken.

While commenting on the project, the principal of the host school, GOFAMINT Comprehensive High School, Akinyele, Ibadan, lauded the Team for their effort and thanked the United States Consulate General, Lagos for designing the CYFI initiative towards empowering Youths in Nigeria with the skills set needed for the development of local communities in Nigeria.

Some of the students also expressed their delight about the program and appreciation to the organizers of this program while sharing their commitment to engaging the training with open-mind and championing the cause for a better environment in Ibadan.

The program ended with the inauguration of Environmental clubs in each participating school,
comprising ten members each.

Grace Ayanwole, a member of the Team and also a Fellow noted that the participating schools are:

1.  GOFAMINT Comprehensive High School, Ojoo, Ibadan
2.  Ogunsanya Boys and Girls Secondary School, Ojoo, Ibadan
3.  Islamic Heritage Glorious School, Moniya, Ibadan
4.  Daarus Salam College of Arts and Sciences, Moniya, Ibadan

Speaking with our correspondent, one of the Fellows, Grace Iquot also mentioned that the CCI is founded upon the strong conviction that youngsters when equipped with the right skills, can be a force for positive change in society.

Highlighting their expectations, Abdulazeez Salahudeen noted that at the end of the training, participants will be required to set up Environmental clubs in their various Schools and develop innovative solutions for waste management in Ibadan. These innovative solutions will be exhibited at a grand finale event set to hold on an unannounced date in July.

Finally, Tunmise Adesina mentioned that a curriculum guidebook and a workbook have been developed by Fellows to facilitate the training. Expressing his optimism, he stated further that the CCI will undoubtedly set the tone for the incorporation of Sustainable Environmental Practices in School curriculums within Oyo state and indeed, Nigeria.
