Makinde Should Assume His Responsibilities And Leave Politicking For The Future- APC

The Oyo State Chapter of All Progressives Congress has advised Gov. Seyi Makinde to adopt the security template of late Gov. Abiola Ajimobi towards addressing security challenges in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the state APC interim Publicity Secretary, Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde on Tuesday in Ibadan.

Olatunde said that Makinde should have built on the security template inherited from his predecessor to sustain peace in the state.

“Sen. Abiola Ajimobi came out with the novel Operation Burst during his tenure as the state governor.

“The effort secured Oyo State people for the eight solid years and the good people of the state attested to it with accolades at the expiration of his tenure,” he said.

He said that Ajimobi demonstrated strong will as a leader with no tolerance for violence, brigandage and destruction.

“In fact, Ajimobi vowed to deal with anyone implicated in endemic and senseless conflicts which had in the past given the state a bad name.

“That was a serious government. From the above analysis, it is very clear that the Ajimobi-led government fashioned out an ingenious means of banishing crime and criminality in the state,” he said.

He said that the recent upsurge in kidnap and murder cases in the state was a sign of weakness by the government.

“Today, it is Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria that is threatening to shut down its retail outlets in the state because one of its members was affected, who is next?

“This is why we are calling all concerned to advise Makinde to assume his responsibilities and leave politicking for the future,” he said.

Gov. Makinde donates N2 Million to launch emblem for Armed Forces Remembrance Day

…urges Nigerians to cater for families of fallen heroes

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Wednesday, urged all Nigerians to continue to cater to the needs of soldiers who were maimed in the line of duty to the country and the children, widows and other dependents of fallen heroes.

The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, stated this at the launching of the Appeal Week Emblem for the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, held at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Building, Secretariat, Ibadan.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted Makinde as saying that the day was meant to honour fallen heroes and sensitize the public on the need to cater to the welfare of veterans who are still alive as well as families of the fallen heroes/heroines.

He said: “I am highly delighted to welcome everyone to the formal launch of the Emblem Appeal Week, which unfolds the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Oyo State.

“It is pertinent to note that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration emerged out of the need to honour our fallen heroes who laid down their lives in service to humanity during the First and Second World Wars, the Nigeria Civil War, Peace Support and Internal Security Operations.

“The occasion is also designed to honour and sensitize the public on the need to attend to the welfare of veterans who are still alive as well as families of the fallen heroes/heroines. From history, indeed, they have done wonderfully well and some nuggets of gold they left behind would surely lead our nation to a better future.”

The governor, while announcing the donation of the sum of N2 million to launch 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration Emblem, appealed to corporate organisations, industrialists, commercial firms, philanthropists and all individuals to donate generously to the Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Appeal Week Fund.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I hereby launch the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and other activities with a sum of N2 Million to the glory of God and enablement of better life for our ex-servicemen, veterans and dependants of those who paid the supreme price for the unity and progress of our nation.”

He said the donations would support ex-servicemen and women with disabilities and those who are now under-privileged, adding that it was noteworthy that collective efforts should be made to consciously care for the needs of maimed soldiers, their widows, their children and other dependents.

Governor Makinde charged the members of the Nigerian Legion to take advantage of the various schemes of the Federal, State and Local Governments, Non-Governmental Organisation as well as interventions from philanthropists to make lives better for them.

”I strongly believe that the Nigerian Legion, Oyo State Chapter, would continue with various relief packages designed to make Legionnaires, widows and their dependents self-sustaining, thereby reducing poverty.

“Their efforts are commendable. However, members of the Nigerian Legion should take advantage of the various schemes of the Federal, State and Local Governments Non-Governmental Organizations as well as philanthropists to make lives better for its members.

“I wish to reassure you that the Oyo State government will continue to support the activities of the Nigerian Legion, especially those self-sustaining projects to enhance the lives of the dependants of the fallen heroes.”

Earlier, the Oyo State Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Mr. Michael Fajimi, said that the main focus of the programme was to raise fund in order to cater to the needs of veterans, who are still alive but incapacitated or living in despair and the children and widows of the departed heroes.

He assured that the Nigerian Legion will continue to give full support to the government in securing the lives and properties of the citizens and residents of the state.

Fajinmi, who commended the Makinde administration for its commitment to improving the security of the state, said members of the Legion would give their support to the Oyo State Security Network Agency also known as Amotekun.

OPINION: Insecurity in Ibarapa, the time to declare State of Emergency is now – By Isiaka Kehinde

The disheartening report from Ibarapa is sending a wave of trepidation and jitters down the spine of the community members and residents.

The kidnapping and killing of Alhaja Serifat and two others is sending a signal to people that they are no longer safe, thus besmirching the good reputation of the government as people are no longer sleeping with their two eyes closed.

I was told that their is a solidarity call for 7 day down tool by all owners of filling stations in ibarapa to register their angst.

In a similar development,Alh Monsuru Aderoju an Aig, was also reported to have been kidnapped in ibarapa North by men suspected to be fulani herdsmen. Alh Aderoju was said to have been taken away in front of his friend’s petrol station in Igangan along iganah road. His whereabouts till now is unknown.

Before government will be branded as insensitive to people’s plight and taint for dereliction to it’s primary duty of saving lives, I will advise that all stakeholders including security heads ,traditional rulers n opinion moulders be invited for a crucial meeting to obviate the state of insecurity in the area once n for all.

I also suggest the declaration of emergency on security in the axis for the period.
It’s Crystal clear that those terrorizing the area don’t fall from heaven like snow , they are living n mingling with people. They need to be fished out like a rabbit in it’s lair, thanks.
