The Nigerian Customs were involved in a clash with the youths of Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State.

The incident which occured on Friday night prompted the multiple shooting of a popular youth of the village, Razak Adeyemi, AKA Soliu, and the subsequent burning of three Custom officers’ vehicles.

An eyewitness who narrated the incident said that the trouble started during a misunderstanding between the officers and a resident who was suspected to be a smuggler.

The issue was said to have been resolved by the involved parties and everybody went their separate ways.
The residents were however shocked when an hour later, the Customs officers returned to the community in fully-loaded military vests with Hilux trucks, and opened fire on the village.

The villagers, as reported, got angered and engaged the officers in what turned out to be violent.

The duo of Ganiy Diekola Ajenikoko of Electrical Engineering Department and Kehinde Ogunleye of Agricultural Extension Department, alongside 29 others have been recommended for promotion as professors by the Appointments and Promotions Committee for the Academic Staff of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

Also recommended for promotion as Readers were 52 other lecturers of the institution.
A statement issued at the end of the Committee’s meeting, held during the week and signed by the Registrar of the University who doubles as the Secretary to the Governing Council, Dr. Kayode Ogunleye, read that their promotion followed due process and thorough screening.

A breakdown of the figure shows that Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has 12 new professors while Faculty of Engineering and Technology has eight.

Others are Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences with six, faculties of Pure and Applied Sciences and Environmental Sciences have two professors each, while the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, has one.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology is leading in the production of Readers with 24, Agricultural Sciences, 11; Basic Medicals, nine; and Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, five.

Others are two and one readers from Clinical Sciences and Environmental Sciences respectively.

The daughter of Rt Hon Adeyemi Sabit Ikuforiji the former Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly and a member of the highest decision making body in Lagos State known as Governor Advisory Council GAC has completed her legal studies and was called to the largest Bar in West Africa.

There is no gainsaying that Ayotelemi Ikuforiji Esq took after her father who is also a legal practitioner. Her father’s passion for academics motivated her to do better in her legal studies. She bagged an LLB from prestigious University of Lancaster and a Master’s degree from Warwick University of the most prestigious universities in the world. The feat is highly commendable and worthy of emulation.

It was a lovely moment for the entire Ikuforiji family as they celebrate their daughter in a grand style. The event was colorful because it feels so wonderful to have reached this goal of being called to the Nigeria Bar. It’s not an easy task, to be called to the largest Bar in West Africa, it needs dedication and commitment to scale through the hurdles.

Ayotelemi Ikuforiji Esq is a legal practitioner with an added advantage as three serving Ministers, two former Governors, Five SANs and Senators attended the get together organized by the family to celebrate the success of their daughter as she was called to Bar.

The prominent personalities that were in attendance are the former Governor of Lagos State and the current Minister Of Works and Housing Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment Mr Festus Keyamo SAN, First Executive Governor of Ekiti State and currently the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi who was also called to Bar a day before Ayotelemi and other eminent personalities.

Some of the personalities that attended the event said that “This is truly a great moment in Barrister Ayotelemi Ikuforiji’s life. She must not underestimate neither what she has accomplished nor the knowledge and capabilities she now possesses. She needs to remain humble and preserve her integrity as she presses forward with her career. Appreciate the professional license she has received and always respect it. With it and because of it, she can and no doubt will do great things for many people”.

The Media Aide of Ex-Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Tinubu has dispelled rumour flying around that Tinubu has been hospitalized abroad.

This was contained in a statement signed and released to newsmen by his Media Adviser, Tunde Ramon as read in part:

“His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is fine. He is hale and hearty. He is not in any hospital. He has no medical problem that would require hospitalization. Yes, he is out of the country at the moment. He will be back shortly.

“Anytime he travels out of the country, the next thing some mischievous people would say is he is sick, hospitalized or has died. It is shameful.

“It is shameful that perpetrators of this evil are not deterred by the fact that each time this fake news has been propagated, they have been proven wrong.

“Who really is afraid of Asiwaju Tinubu? Those wishing Asiwaju Tinubu evil or dead should be careful. They should know the matter of life and death is in the hand of only God Almighty”.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has held a former president of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, in custody over allegations of theft and money laundering.

Mr Saraki, a former Kwara State governor, was detained on Saturday, sources familiar with the development said, a situation that may trigger another episode of troubles for the politician.

As senate president between 2015 and 2019, Mr Saraki spent a considerable time facing allegations of corruption and false declaration of assets. He was acquitted by the Supreme Court in June 2018.

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that operation of some suspected Kidnappers known to have been terrorising the people of Iwere Ile of Iwajowa Local Government, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State foiled by men of Amotekun Corps, on Friday afternoon.

It was learnt that the suspected Kidnappers met their waterloo following a distress call received by the seurity operatives.

According to eyewitness, the kidnappers had stormed the community when residents sent distress calls to Amotekun operatives in the area.

A source revealed that immediately the Amotekun operatives got to the scene at about 3:30 p.m., they engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle, killing two, while the remaining three members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds.

It was further gathered that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in the area later stormed the scene and took the corpses away.

As at the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Police Command has not made official statement on the incident.

Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has said that Ladipo Market, Mushin, was shut for sundry and persistent environmental infractions, which they failed to redress despite several warnings from the Authority.

The Authority, in a press release on Friday, highlighted the deplorable state of the environment within and around the market, due to flagrant acts of improper waste disposal, capable of causing disease outbreak in the area.

LAWMA said the market would remain shut until the traders turned a new leaf, by adhering to the environmental laws of the state, put in place to protect the environment and residents.

It appealed to other markets and business centers in Lagos to shun indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other related environmental offences, noting that the Authority would leave no stone unturned in making sure defaulters are adequately penalised, to serve as deterrent to others.

The Authority urged traders in markets across the state, as well as other residents, to support LAWMA in its efforts to rid the environment of waste pollution, adding that people should patronise assigned PSP operators and pay their waste bills promptly.

The attention of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has been drawn to an unfortunate incident, which occurred early Thursday morning, at exactly 7.45 a.m, in which a motorist knocked down one of our sweepers, who regrettably died, while another sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

The Authority is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident and commiserates with the family and loved ones of the deceased sweeper. We pray that God gives them the fortitude to bear the irreparable and sad loss, while praying that the other sweeper in the hospital, will speedily recover and may God spare her life.

The Authority would like to use this medium to admonish and appeal to motorists, to exercise maximum care while driving on our roads, pay attention to the sweepers, be conscious of their presence and give them the right of way.

The Authority will not hesitate to prosecute any driver, who willfully or otherwise, knocks down or cause bodily harm to any of our sweepers, while carrying out their legitimate duties of ensuring that our environment is kept sustainably clean, so that we all can have a healthy living.

The lives of our sweepers, who are our heroes, are most valuable to us and we will do everything humanly possible to protect and safe guard them at all times.

The motorist in question has turned himself in to a nearby Police station.
