Gout Drug Could Show Promise in Fighting COVID-19

Good web design has visual weight, is optimized for various devices, and has content that is prioritized for the medium. The most important elements of a web page should have more visual weight to “naturally attract” a visitor’s attention.

Good design is making something intelligible and memorable. Great design is making something memorable and meaningful.

Dieter Rams

Most users search for something interesting (or useful) and clickable; as soon as some promising candidates are found, users click. If the new page doesn’t meet users’ expectations, the back button is clicked and the search process is continued.

A good website should be easy to navigate

Not all websites are made equal. Some websites are simple, logical, and easy to use. Others are a messy hodgepodge of pages and links.

How are innovations in robotics changing the way we perceive the world?

Without website navigation, your visitors can’t figure out how to find your blog, your email signup page, your product listings, pricing, contact information, or help docs.

Quick and easy access to the content they’re after is more important for your website users than a… visually-stunning design.

Creating visual rhythms in your layouts

In design, rhythm is created by simply repeating elements in predictable patterns. This repetition is a natural thing that occurs everywhere in our world. As people, we are driven everyday by predictable, timed events.

Why does Bluetooth use lossy rather than lossless compression

One of the best ways to use repetition and rhythm in web design is in the site’s navigation menu. A consistent, easy-to-follow pattern—in color, layout, etc. Gives users an intuitive roadmap to everything you want to share on your site.

  • Direct the Eye With Leading Lines
  • Balance Out Your Elements
  • Use Elements That Complement Each Other
  • Be clear about your “focal points” and where you place them

Diving into UX and UI design

UX and UI: Two terms that are often used interchangeably, but actually mean very different things. So what exactly is the difference?

Styles come and go. Good design is a language, not a style.

Massimo Vignelli

UX design refers to the term “user experience design”, while UI stands for “user interface design. Both elements are crucial to a product and work closely together. But despite their relationship, the roles themselves are quite different.

Breaking down the barriers

Design is not the end-all solution to all of the worlds problems — but with the right thinking and application, it can definitely be a good beginning to start tackling them.

College of Health Science Students Write Makinde, Demand His Intervention In Their School

The students of Oyo State College of Health Science Technology have written an open letter to Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde on the need to intervene and prevail on their management for failure to do their statutory responsibilities that will enable them to be registered, certified and licensed as Surgery Technicians. The copy of the open letter as sent by the students to ODUDUWA NEWS is reproduced below.

Engr. Oluseyi Makinde,
The Governor,
Oyo State.

Your Excellency Sir,

REQUEST FOR URGENT INTERVENTION

We final year students of Oral Health Science Department, studying Dental Surgery Technician in Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele Ibadan, formerly School of Hygiene, Eleyele, write to bring to your attention for urgent intervention the unreadiness of our department and college management to fulfil its core mandate.

Upon admission, we were assured that we will be CERTIFIED and LICENSED as Dental Surgery Technicians after fulfilling our academic requirement, unfortunately, it appears the management is not interested in fulfilling this.

Aside other academics requirements, aspiring Oral Health Technicians must be licensed by the DENTAL THERAPISTS’ REGISTRATION BOARD OF NIGERIA to be eligible to practice, it is, therefore, the responsibility of the college to prepare students and register them for the board examination according, students who pass will the examination will subsequently be issued the licence to practice by the board.

Since the inception of the department in the 2016/2017 academic session, two sets have graduated so far and despite paying for the board examination, none of the over 100 students from both sets was registered for the board examination by the management, leaving them unlicensed, hence, unemployable.

It is sad that after paying one of the highest cost for this particular course compared to any government-owned institution in the southwest, graduates are left roaming the streets due to the refusal of the college to perform its duties of indexing and registering them with the board.

By the end of this session, we would have spent 3 full years and not less than 400,000 ( Four Hundred Thousand Naira) in our pursuit to be certified and licensed Dental Surgery Technicians. As demanded from our predecessors who were not registered despite paying, the management of the institution has again set a deadline for the payment of a total of N45,000 ( Forty-five Thousand Naira) for the board examination.

Although the sum is outrageous for an examination which the board itself requires just about N 7,000 (Seven Thousand Naira). We have endured higher degrees of extortions from the management since our admissions, hence, our concern at the moment is not the fee but the sincerity of the management to truly register us for this examination as we dont not want to suffer the same deception previous sets suffered.

We know for a fact that other institutions like, Ogun State College of Health Science and Technology, Ilese and Kwara State College of Health Science and Technology, Ijebu-Ode who offers the same course registered their students for this board examination, we, therefore, wonder why our institution has been negatively different.

The information at our disposal is that the board is already rounding up registration and indexing for this year and as usual, our school has not registered We, therefore, plead that you intervene and prevail on the management to be truthful and do the needful before it’s too late.

Thanks and God bless you, sir.

Tokyo 2020: Oke-Ogun Born Athlete, Adegoke Defeats World’s Fastest Man

Nigeria will be represented by the pair of Enoch Adegoke and Usheoritse Itsekiri in the semis of a highly competitive men’s 100m at the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo after both athletes secured their spots, posting inspiring performances in the heats on Saturday.

While racing at the Olympic Stadium, the Nigerian Champion sped into the history books as the country’s 11th sub-10s runner, stunning a stacked field which included USA Champion and World Leader Trayvon Bromell, to take the win in Heat 2 with an impressive time of 9.98s.

Qatar’s Femi Ogunbode and Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes followed in 10.02s and 10.04s respectively, with Bromell settling for 4th place.

Former Nigerian Champion Itsekiri also gave a good account of himself, racing to a 3rd place finish with a time of 10.15s in Heat 1 that was dominated by USA’s Ronnie Baker. It was a sad day for 200m National Record holder Divine Odududuru who was disqualified for a false start.

Speaking after his breathtaking performance, an excited Adegoke who is making his first appearance at the Olympics said:

“It feels great, I’m excited about this. It’s been a long time coming and I thank God for the result. God has said it and he did it.”

When asked about his strategy for the next round, the Commonwealth Games finalist said: “I think it’s all about recovery and communicating with my coach. I trust God for a better result tomorrow. “

Adegoke has been drawn into Heat 2 of the semis where he will once again square off with Bromell, Ogunbode and Hughes while compatriot Itsekiri will compete in Heat 1, where he will face Andre De Grasse, Fred Kerley and Yohan Blake.

APC Ward Congresses: Party Faithfuls Agree On Consensus In Osun As Violence Recorded In Oyo, Ogun, Others

The members of the Osun State National Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Congress have applauded the peaceful conduct of the exercise in the entire State.

The delegates also extolled members of the ruling party for their high level of compliance towards ensuring smooth, free, fair, credible and acceptable congress across the 332 wards in the State.

This is even as the APC loyalists and supporters who participated in the process across wards in the State expressed satisfaction at the adoption of consensus mode by the party leadership.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the processes were not the same in other States as violence marred the ward congresses in Oyo, Ogun where parallel congresses were held by some aggrieved members.

Recall that members of the Committee after their arrival in Osun on Friday evening, during a stakeholders’ meeting, announced their readiness to conduct a credible and transparent Congress in the State.

Addressing journalists shortly after the tour to some of the wards in the State, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, expressed delight at the way and manner the members of the party conducted themselves.

Elegbeleye, who supervised the Congress exercise in all the wards visited, said it was worthy of note that the entire process had been seen, observed and adjudged to be peaceful, orderly and in line with the party’s principles and guidelines.

He noted that the reports gathered so far had reflected the peaceful conduct of the members of the party as demonstrated to elect new party’s officers.

“So far so good, the Congress has been conducted in a free, fair and credible atmosphere. The wards visited so far have been very peaceful as members of the party conducted themselves in a peaceful manner to elect their new officers across the registered 332 wards in the State.

“We were able to see the members agreeing on who will oversee the affairs of the party as new executive officers in all the wards we have visited.

“Though the party agreed on consensus for the conduct of the Congress, in case there is any disagreement, then, they will vote. Anywhere the members feel they don’t like a particular candidate, then they can vote.

“But in a situation where for instance we have about a hundred members and eighty-five of them agreed on a particular candidate and fifteen disagreed, there is nothing to vote about. One must have known that the majority have their way,” he added.

While fielding questions from journalists during the tour of the Committee to Iragbiji, the country home of the State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, the governor lauded the members of the party for turning out in large numbers to elect new officers of the party at wards level.

Oyetola also extolled the peaceful conduct of the exercise across the 332 wards in the State.

“Well, you have seen things for yourselves and thank God it is been very peaceful. Members of the party are here in their large numbers, just as the Congress has been done in line with the directive of the National Secretariat of the party.

“It has been peaceful all through as we all agreed to use the principle of consensus to elect those that will be overseeing the affairs of the party in their various wards.

“I am glad the way everything has been going so far. As you can see that people are very happy here in my ward. It can’t be otherwise because we had a consensus agreement across the nine federal constituencies in the State and I am glad that members of the party have been allowed to exercise their rights in this regard.

“I must appreciate those who have contributed to the success of the conduct, particularly members of the press who have been very supportive,” Oyetola added.

Earlier, the Osun Caretaker Chairman of the party, Prince Gboyega Famodun, hailed the party members for adhering to and complying with consensus mode.

According to him, the report so far across the State has indicated that the Congress has been very peaceful and orderly as it has affirmed the decision of the party to consider the consensus.

As at the time of filing this report, the Committee members had visited Ward 04, the ward of the former Interim National Chairman of APC, Chief Adebisi Akande in Ila-Orangun, Ila Local Government Area; Ward 04, Igbajo, Boluwaduro Local Government; Ward 01, Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government among others.
