Google’s Self-Designed Tensor Chips will Power Its Next

Good web design has visual weight, is optimized for various devices, and has content that is prioritized for the medium. The most important elements of a web page should have more visual weight to “naturally attract” a visitor’s attention.

Good design is making something intelligible and memorable. Great design is making something memorable and meaningful.

Most users search for something interesting (or useful) and clickable; as soon as some promising candidates are found, users click. If the new page doesn’t meet users’ expectations, the back button is clicked and the search process is continued.

A good website should be easy to navigate

Not all websites are made equal. Some websites are simple, logical, and easy to use. Others are a messy hodgepodge of pages and links.

How are innovations in robotics changing the way we perceive the world?

Without website navigation, your visitors can’t figure out how to find your blog, your email signup page, your product listings, pricing, contact information, or help docs.

Quick and easy access to the content they’re after is more important for your website users than a… visually-stunning design.

Creating visual rhythms in your layouts

In design, rhythm is created by simply repeating elements in predictable patterns. This repetition is a natural thing that occurs everywhere in our world. As people, we are driven everyday by predictable, timed events.

Why does Bluetooth use lossy rather than lossless compression

One of the best ways to use repetition and rhythm in web design is in the site’s navigation menu. A consistent, easy-to-follow pattern—in color, layout, etc. Gives users an intuitive roadmap to everything you want to share on your site.

  • Direct the Eye With Leading Lines
  • Balance Out Your Elements
  • Use Elements That Complement Each Other
  • Be clear about your “focal points” and where you place them

Diving into UX and UI design

UX and UI: Two terms that are often used interchangeably, but actually mean very different things. So what exactly is the difference?

Styles come and go. Good design is a language, not a style.

UX design refers to the term “user experience design”, while UI stands for “user interface design. Both elements are crucial to a product and work closely together. But despite their relationship, the roles themselves are quite different.

Breaking down the barriers

Design is not the end-all solution to all of the worlds problems — but with the right thinking and application, it can definitely be a good beginning to start tackling them.

Sanwo-Olu Vows To Establish Additional Universities Of Science and Technology, Education In Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday said plans are underway for the state to have two additional universities of Science and Technology as well as Education.

He also vowed not to interfere with the ongoing selection process that would lead to the appointment of the substantive Vice Chancellor of the state-owned Lagos State University (LASU).

The Governor said he does not have personal interest in who becomes the next Vice Chancellor of LASU and therefore has no intention to influence the process, adding that due process would be followed in the appointment.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made the statement while receiving members of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) led by its chairman, Prof. Samuel Edoumiekumo, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Lagos House, Ikeja on Tuesday.

“The process for the appointment of the substantive Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU) is ongoing and I can assure you that all the laws and due process that would lead to the appointment of the vice chancellor would be fully adhered to.

“I have no intention to interfere or have any interest in the choice of who would be vice chancellor. We have put in the committee men and women of impeccable character that have distinguished themselves and are willing to do for us a good job,” he said.

The Governor also promised to assist the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities to get back the title documents of its property situated at Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island in Lagos, saying the property would be released to the Committee at no cost.

He said Lagos State Government will support the Committee on its forthcoming 60th anniversary celebration holding next year.

Speaking earlier, Prof. Edoumiekumo commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for rising to the occasion when COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the state and for delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Lagos State in different sectors.

He said the ongoing metro rail system and the proposed 38 kilometres long Fourth Mainland bridge project, which according to him is one of the single most significant infrastructure projects undertaken by a state government in Nigeria, are testimonies of a thoroughly focused government.

The Chairman of CVCNU said Governor Sanwo-Olu’s support as the Visitor to the Lagos State University is commendable and called for the Lagos State Government’s support for the forthcoming 60th anniversary of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.

“As Nigeria’s economic and social powerhouse, Lagos is arguably a mini-Nigeria and leader in its federation of states. Lagos sets the agenda and leads other states to emulate in economic development, innovation, good governance and education,” he said.

Prof. Edoumiekumo said the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities is desirous of working with key stakeholders to improve the Nigeria University system and therefore seek for mutually rewarded partnership with Lagos State Government and the people in that regard.

Stop Southern govs from signing anti-open grazing laws, Miyetti Allah urges National Assembly

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Fulani Socio-Cultural Association has called on the National Assembly to intervene and stop attempts by some state governors to enact anti-open grazing laws targeted at Fulani pastoralists.

The National Secretary of the association, Mr Saleh Alhassan, made the call at a National Peace Summit and Investiture of Queen Mother Amina Temitope Ajayi as the Miyetti Allah Brand Ambassador, held at Uke, Karu Local Government, Nasarawa State.

Alhassan said the law would undermine the relative peace and stability currently enjoyed in the local communities, threaten the social order and exacerbated cattle rustling.

He said the anti-open grazing laws would destroy livestock production and send into poverty millions of people that depend on the livestock value chain.

Alhassan appealed to the National Assembly to come to the rescue of the pastoralists by resuscitating and passing the Grazing Reserves Commission Bill and other livestock management bills that were initiated by the previous assembly.

The secretary, therefore, called on the Federal Government to create a Federal Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries as obtainable in many African countries.

He stressed the need for the government to take an inventory of all the existing grazing reserves, traditional grazing areas, transhumance corridors, major stock routes and fully develop at least one grazing reserve in each Senatorial District.

Ekiti Gov, Fayemi Charges Police To Fish Out Sowore’s Killers

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Monday added his voice to the calls on the police to fish out the killers of Mr Olajide Sowore, younger brother of publisher and rights activist, Mr Omoyele Sowore.

Olajide, a student of Igbinedion University in Edo, was reportedly killed by suspected kidnappers on Saturday on the Lagos-Benin Expressway.

In statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Yinka Oyebode in Ado-Ekiti, Fayemi described the killing as unfortunate.

Fayemi urged the police to urgently find the killers and rescue five people reportedly abducted by them.

According to him, killing of innocent citizens is a cause for concern.

“It is time security agencies, with the support of the citizens, put an end to this wastage of precious lives.

“My sincere condolences go to the Sowore family, especially the brother of the deceased, Omoyele Sowore,” he said.

Fayemi, also the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, urged security agencies to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity.

He advised Nigerians to volunteer information that would help security agencies to tackle insecurity.

Lagos Adopts Staggered Resumption For Schools As COVID-19 Third Wave Increases

The Lagos State Government has announced the resumption guidelines for the Y2021/2022 academic session for public and private schools across the State.

In a release issued on Monday by the State Ministry of Education, the Honourable Commissioner, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, stated that all schools are expected to resume on Monday, 13th September 2021, while students of Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools will be required to resume in batches from Sunday 19th September, 2021.

In her words, “Boarders in Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools, as well as SS2 students seeking placement into SS3 class are expected to resume on Sunday 19th September, 2021. The revision for the classes will run from 20th to 26th September while promotion examination to SS3 class will start from 27th September to 8th October, 2021.

Mrs. Adefisayo further noted that the newly admitted JS1 students into Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools are to resume on Saturday, 2nd October, 2021 for a one-week orientation programme to intimate them on secondary school structure and modalities.

The Commissioner averred that other returning students in JS2, JS3, SS1 and the newly transited SS2 in the various Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools are to resume on Saturday, 9th October 2021, while classes for the students will commence on Monday, 11th October, 2021.

She also revealed that the adoption of staggered resumption for Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools was due to the presence of Y2020/2021 SS3 students currently writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) scheduled to end on the 6th of October, 2021, adding that another reason is that the schools cannot accommodate seven sets at once in the boarding system.

Adefisayo, therefore, appealed to parents to abide by the new development for a smooth academic session, just as she implored the students to be more diligent and devote more time to their studies.

Osun APC LG Congress: Committee Announces results For 30 Councils, One Area Office

The National Committee for Local Government Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has announced results of the congress held in all the 30 Local Government Areas and One Area Office in the State.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye who announced the results at a press conference in Osogbo on Monday, disclosed that the results were compiled and announced in line with the Constitution of the party, having satisfied all the constitutional requirements and party’s principles and guidelines.

He also reiterated that there was no Congress in Osun other than the one the Committee conducted and that was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security operatives.

Elegbeleye, therefore, described as illegal, null and void results of any other purported congress held in the State. He added that the Committee was sent by the national secretariat of the party to conduct LG congress for Osun APC and not a group within the party.

According to him, the Committee was not informed of any other Congress except the one its members witnessed and supervised across the State.

Elegbeleye who described as fallacy, the purported claims of another Congress held by some members of a group in the party, said “an election can only hold if the dissenting members sufficiently and appropriately informed the Committee of the need to do so”.

He added that “the Committee resolved to hold a Stakeholders’ meeting as part of efforts to register their presence in the State, ratify the decision of the leadership of the party as to either a consensus arrangement or election would be adopted and inform any member or group of people in the party who may opt for election the need to do so having properly being informed as the case may be.

“We have the results of the 30 Local Government Areas and Ife-East Area Office with us. We were here yesterday for the compilation of the results coming from the Local Governments.

“As you all know, we are here to conduct the Local Government Congress for All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and not for any group. We were sent by the National Secretariat, Abuja to come and conduct Local Government Congress for APC in Osun and not for a group or members of a group in the he party. And not a single member of this Committee is aware of any group in the party as being speculated.

“All we know at the Secretariat is that there is one APC in Osun, that is why we were sent to conduct the Congress, and as you can see, we are at the Secretariat of the party not elsewhere. This is the party Secretariat known by the leadership and every member of the party.

“We were here last Friday to hold Stakeholders’ meeting where we had leaders of the party. So also today, as you can see, we equally have leaders of the party here present for the Press Conference.

“In our visit to some of the local government areas, we couldn’t see any other place rather than the designated centres where the Congress was supposed to be held and nobody contacted us in contrary. Nobody or group of persons informed us there will be Congress elsewhere.

“As far as we are concerned, none of the Committee members was informed of any other venue other than where the exercise was genuinely held across the State. We are seven in number and all of us are here. We all witnessed the election.

“Myself and my colleagues use this opportunity to thank members of the press and the party’s leadership in the State for your cooperation and support and for the peaceful conduct of the Congress.

“I believe that the APC in the State now have the new executive members at the various Councils to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years,” Elegbeleye said.

When asked if the Committee was aware that some members of the party agitated for election instead of consensus which was largely adopted by the leadership of the party, the Committee Chairman said during the Stakeholders’ meeting, there was no motion against the popular consensus adopted by the party.

He added: “On Friday, we held a Stakeholder’s meeting and I said the party had opted for consensus but in area where there are disagreements and people want to really go out and vote, they are so much allowed and for someone to insist that he won an election, he must have notified us that in a particular area they want to vote, and as I said, nobody, I mean nobody till now gave us any notification of any other Congress elsewhere.

“Nobody notifies us they don’t want consensus, nobody notifies us they want election till this present moment. Nobody notifies us that there is a crisis in any Local Government that requires election. What we are not aware of, we can’t act on it.

“We are not from Osun and every member of the party knows the procedure, they know we are around. Nobody can claim that he doesn’t know we are around that was why a stakeholders’ meeting was held to further announce our presence.

“So, as far as we are concerned, any Congress outside the one we supervised, monitored and subsequently announced its results is a nullity.”

In his remarks, the Caretaker Chairman of the APC in the State, Prince Gboyega Famodun, commended the members of the Committee for ‘a job well done’.

Famodun who expressed displeasure over the conduct of some members of the party, noted that “no pressure group in APC can equate its strength to that of the party itself that is fully registered and constitutionally constituted.”
