Court Voids Quit Notice Against Gbenga Daniel’s Properties, Faults Ogun Govt on Due Process

An Ogun State High Court has nullified a quit notice issued by the state government against properties belonging to former Governor and serving Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, ruling that the Abiodun administration bypassed mandatory statutory procedures before initiating enforcement action.

The judgment, delivered in a suit arising from a planning compliance dispute in Sagamu, declared the quit notice null and void, and found that the state’s enforcement officials acted outside their legal authority.

The dispute traces to August 2025, when Ogun State planning authorities moved against two properties linked to Daniel and his wife: Asoludero Court, his private residence, and Conference Hotels Limited along with its annex, both located in Sagamu. The state issued notices of contravention, a quit notice, and threatened demolition within days, citing violations of planning regulations and alleged permit deficiencies.

Daniel challenged the action, dismissing it as politically motivated and maintaining that both properties were backed by valid Certificates of Occupancy predating the current planning regime. His legal team swiftly approached the court and secured an ex-parte order restraining the government from any demolition or interference pending determination of the substantive suit.

At the core of the case was a procedural question: did the Ogun State Government follow its own enforcement sequence before issuing a quit notice?

Under Ogun State planning laws, enforcement must proceed in stages: a notice of contravention, an opportunity to remedy, further enforcement steps, and only then a final notice. The claimants argued that the government collapsed this sequence, jumping directly to coercive action and denying them the procedural safeguards enshrined in the law.

The High Court upheld that argument in its entirety. The court held that the enforcement provisions under Ogun State planning laws are mandatory and not discretionary, that government agencies have no latitude to bypass statutory steps, and that the failure to observe due process rendered the quit notice void ab initio. In effect, the court found the Abiodun administration had acted ultra vires.

The state government, for its part, had defended the action as part of a lawful statewide land audit and urban renewal exercise, insisting that no individual is above the law. The court’s verdict effectively turned that argument on its head, establishing that enforcement actions conducted in the name of legality must themselves be lawful.

The ruling carries implications well beyond one property dispute. The speed and intensity of enforcement targeting a former governor who now sits in the Senate had drawn widespread scrutiny, with critics questioning whether planning laws were being selectively deployed as a political instrument.

Legal analysts say the judgment reinforces a foundational governance principle: regulatory powers, however legitimate, cannot be weaponised through procedural shortcuts. The judiciary’s intervention signals that executive convenience does not override statutory procedure, regardless of the office directing it.

For Ogun State, the case raises uncomfortable questions about the integrity of its broader land audit programme and whether other enforcement actions across the state were conducted with the same procedural disregard now condemned by the court.

Ondo Cracks Down on Traffic Violators, Introduces Mobile Courts for Swift Justice

The Government of Ondo State has announced plans to prosecute traffic offenders through the deployment of mobile courts, in a decisive move aimed at restoring order and discipline on the roads.

The initiative, approved under the leadership of Governor , is designed to ensure the prompt trial of violators, reduce road accidents, and enforce compliance with traffic regulations across the state. Officials say the mobile courts will operate in major urban centres and highways, targeting offences such as reckless driving, illegal parking, one-way driving, and disregard for traffic signals.

According to the state authorities, the introduction of mobile courts will eliminate delays associated with conventional court processes and serve as a deterrent to habitual offenders. The government emphasized that offenders apprehended by traffic enforcement agencies will be arraigned on the spot, with penalties ranging from fines to other legal sanctions as stipulated by law.

The Special Adviser on Transportation noted that the measure is part of a broader strategy to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and protect lives and property. Residents and road users have been urged to cooperate with traffic officials and adhere strictly to traffic rules to avoid sanctions.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and orderly transportation system, warning that there will be zero tolerance for traffic violations as the mobile courts commence operations.

Ondo Motorcyclists Protest Tough Registration Process, Seek Deadline Extension

About 14 days after the Ondo State Government reinforced the night-time ban on motorcycle operations and introduced compulsory registration for riders, motorcyclists today staged a protest, decrying the tedious registration process and its impact on their livelihood.

Recall that the government had earlier restricted motorcycle operations between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. as part of efforts to curb criminal activities, including kidnapping and armed robbery, often linked to the use of motorcycles for quick escape.

They were also given a two-week grace period to register, after which a fee of ₦20,000 would apply.

However, the protesting motorcyclists, who gathered at the Governor’s Office, argued that the registration window is too short and the process overly cumbersome, affecting their daily income.

They appealed to the government to extend the deadline to allow more time for proper compliance.

In response, the Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Special Duties and Strategy, Gani Mohammed, urged the protesters to remain calm and assured them that the government would explore ways to simplify the registration process.

Oyo 2027: Sharafadeen Alli Gains Momentum as APC Consensus Candidate After Tinubu Meeting

The political coast is gradually clearing for the Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli to emerge as the consensus governorship candidate of the (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Findings by Oduduwa News reveal that despite the presence of over 15 gubernatorial aspirants across Oyo State’s geo-political zones, key party stakeholders appear to be rallying behind Alli as the most acceptable choice. This development reportedly followed a high-level meeting with President in Lagos on Sunday.

The meeting came shortly after President Tinubu returned from a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where he had engagements at . Sources disclosed that part of his time in Lagos was devoted to strategic consultations on political developments in the South-West ahead of 2027.

According to insiders, the endorsement of Alli was reached after extensive deliberations, with participants considering his political experience, grassroots appeal, and acceptability across party factions in the state. Those present at the meeting included Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila ; Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele ; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji ; and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacheaus Adedeji, among other top stakeholders.

Further strengthening Alli’s candidacy, sources revealed that he enjoys the backing of a majority of APC leaders in Oyo State, as well as the Olubadan of Ibadanland . Alli, a Senior Chief of Ibadanland, has previously served as a local government chairman and Secretary to the State Government before his current role in the Senate.

Meanwhile, discussions at the meeting also touched on concerns surrounding the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu. Sources indicated that his perceived lack of grassroots support remains a major challenge, with party members citing recent electoral setbacks, including the APC’s loss in all 12 wards in the Ibadan North federal constituency by-election to the (PDP).

Party insiders further disclosed that internal divisions over Adelabu’s ambition have continued to widen cracks within the APC, making Alli a unifying figure widely accepted across factions. As political alignments intensify, many observers believe his emergence could reshape the party’s chances in the 2027 governorship race against the camp of incumbent Governor .

Gbenga Hashim Warns Wike Faction Against Factional Convention, Urges PDP Unity

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Gbenga Hashim, has cautioned the faction loyal to Nyesom Wike against staging another factional convention, warning that such a move could further fracture the party.

Hashim described the plan as a serious threat to the unity and survival of the PDP, stressing that both camps had earlier agreed to pursue a unity convention before the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal.

According to him, the reconciliation process was derailed by what he termed the activities of a “fifth columnist,” who allegedly sabotaged efforts in pursuit of external interests.

“I urge the Wike faction not to renege on the gentleman’s agreement already made. This is about the survival and integrity of the PDP,” Hashim said.

The PDP chieftain also warned against alleged moves to tamper with the executive committees of state chapters, particularly in Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Kano states, noting that such actions would violate the party’s constitution.

He maintained that the tenures of state executives are fixed and cannot be arbitrarily altered, cautioning against exporting the national leadership crisis into otherwise stable state structures.

Hashim identified the authentic state chairmen in the affected states as Hon. Raymond Dabo (Plateau), Hon. Adamu Ninga (Nasarawa), Hon. Edward Percy Masha (Kaduna), and Hon. Yusuf Ado Kibiya (Kano), insisting that their mandates must be respected.

He warned that imposing parallel structures in states without internal disputes could deepen the crisis and weaken the party’s cohesion ahead of future elections.

The presidential aspirant further cautioned that key actors in the ongoing dispute risk emerging as political losers if they fail to resolve their differences and adhere strictly to an agreed framework for power-sharing and the harmonisation of the National Working Committees of the rival factions.

Hashim called on all stakeholders to return to the negotiation table and conclude work on a unified leadership structure, stressing that any factional convention would ultimately produce a lose-lose outcome for the party.

He reiterated that unity remains the only viable path for the PDP to regain its strength, credibility and electoral competitiveness.

“You Wanted Money; I Wanted Power. Stay Where You Are As A Contractor” – Wike Dishes Makinde, Warns Against Unnecessary Political Battles

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned members of his political party against engaging in avoidable internal conflicts, stressing that politics must be approached with clear strategy rather than treated as a profit-driven venture.

Nyesom Wike also threw jibes at Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for engaging in a political battle with him.

Wike gave the warning during a recent political engagement, where he expressed concern over rising tensions and divisions among party loyalists. According to him, unnecessary political battles weaken party cohesion and distract from the broader objective of governance and electoral success. He emphasized that discipline and calculated engagement remain critical in sustaining political relevance.

The former Rivers State governor further noted that politics is not a business enterprise where individuals pursue personal gains at the expense of collective interest. He urged party members to prioritize unity, loyalty, and long-term planning, warning that reckless political confrontations could undermine the party’s strength ahead of future elections.

Wike also advised stakeholders to focus on building strong alliances and adopting strategic thinking in navigating Nigeria’s complex political landscape. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening party structures and ensuring that internal disagreements are resolved through dialogue rather than public disputes.
