Sanwo-Olu seeking to stop #EndSARS anniversary with concert- Falz

Falz alleges that the Lagos government was making moves to scuttle activities to mark one year anniversary of the #EndSARS historic protest.

Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz has accused Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of organising concerts with celebrities to distract youths from participating in the EndSARS remembrance event.

In a social media post on Friday, Falz disclosed the police were already at the Lekki toll gate to restrict Nigerian youths from exercising their fundamental human rights.

He alleged that the Lagos state governor was using the concert as a vice to sway youths from participating in the EndSARS memorial event.

“As I type this, there is already a HEAVY police presence at the Lekki toll gate. Best thing they could come up with is organising “concerts” to try and distract us from remembering the real heroes in all of this. The people they murdered,” the music star in an Instagram post said.

Lamenting that justice was yet to be served to individuals that suffered brutality in the hands of the police before, during and after the #EndSARS protest, Falz Insisted that the youths will not be silenced.

His comments come a few hours after Instagram skit maker Mr Macaroni took a swipe at celebrities for accepting Mr Sanwo-Olu’s invitation to perform at a concert meant to hold days before the Lekki shooting anniversary.

Mr Macaroni who rebuked celebrities for refusing to speak up against the government’s move to quell planned #EndSARS memorial events charged them to rethink their association with the government.

Falz’s social media post followed Landmark Event Centre’s refusal to allow its premises to be used for the “SoroSoke” summit, an event put together to mark the one year anniversary of the Lekki tollgate shootings.

Falz was listed amongst the prominent persons scheduled to speak at the summit.

Any Parallel APC Congress In Lagos, Mere Naming Ceremony —Sanwo-Olu

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has dismissed parallel congresses of the All Progressives Congress allegedly held by some elements as “mere naming ceremonies.”

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile, disclosed this in a statement after the congress on Saturday which produced Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi as state chairman of the APC.

According to Akosile, Sanwo-Olu said the authentic congress was the one attended by card-carrying members of the party at the venue announced by the State Congress Committee and supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission and the party’s national executive committee.

The Governor described the process as “simply decisive, non-controversial,” expressing his confidence in the new team that will be steering the party’s affairs in Lagos.

He said Ojelabi possessed a brilliant resume as a loyal APC chieftain, noting that the new team would work to deepen the party’s stronghold in the state.

Akosile quoted Sanwo-Olu as saying, “We have come to the end of the state congress. All party members are happy with the peaceful conduct of the process and the outcome. I’m certain that the leadership that emerges from this exercise is a round peg in a hole. The man (Ojelabi) that will be leading the team has a brilliant resume as a trusted hand, at the National Assembly level, State Executive Council level, political and community leadership level. He has over 20 years of political experience.”

He added that the new chairman had the mandate to reach out to aggrieved party members and bring them back to the fold.

On his part, Ojelabi praised the Governor for a hitch-free congress, noting that the peaceful conduct of the election manifested good leadership ingrained in the party by the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He also thanked the past caretaker committee members for their service, especially their effort to grow the party membership and its reach.

The governor, who stated this at the congress held at the Open Court of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, said if given the opportunity to govern the country in 2023, the PDP will end the divisive tendencies in the country and place it on the path of unity and oneness.

“Today, we don’t have much to say. The only thing I will say is that those who said they are aggrieved can see what has happened here today.
“PDP belongs to all of us. They must come back and get integrated into the fold and we will accommodate them.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the Oyo State PDP Congress Committee and Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, commended Makinde for his sterling leadership, which, according to him, has ensured the sustainability of the PDP in the state.

“I respectfully acknowledge all the executive leaders of the party here. Your contributions and sacrifices are highly appreciated. I also appreciate the support and solidarity of our teeming supporters.
