Why We Digitalized Recruitment of Examination Supervisors – NECO

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has digitised the recruitment process for examination supervisors and assistant supervisors.

The supervisors are for the Basic Educationn Certificate Examination (BECE) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal and external.

This is contained in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday by Azeez Sani, acting director, information and digital communication of the council.

Mr Sani said the digitalisation is to check sharp practices in the recruitment process and to enhance efficiency and effective service delivery.

He said the digitalisation process involved migration from the manual recruitment of supervisors and assistant supervisors to an online system.

Mr Sani said this would ensure that supervisors nomination form, appointment letters and supervisors e-photo Albums were generated on-line.

He also said the routine swapping of supervisors and assistant supervisors during the examination would be done online.

He urged interested qualified teachers with NCE, degree certificate, masters degree, PhD and professors who are eligible to apply as supervisors and assistant supervisors for BECE or SSCE internal or external to do so.

It could be recalled that before the digitalisation system, recruitment of supervisors and assistant supervisors was done manually by the council.

Bayo Adelabu: time for support and solidarity, let’s pray for our man ~Balogun Gaphar Babatunde Ojetola

I am afraid!
This guy must not fail.

The joy that heralded his nomination in July 2023 as a minister evaporated immediately the portfolio was mentioned in August, 2023, the Honourable Minister of Power!
To allay my fears, I quickly searched for the core duties of this post holder and I discovered:

MISSION: To generate, distribute and transmit electricity nationwide, facilitate the provision of adequate and affordable electricity for all Nigerians in both urban and rural areas.

Whaoo, I was thrown off balance knowing fully well that the major challenges of we impatient Nigerians is electricity. An average Nigerian had high hopes of having regular unhindered, uninterrupted power supply, even if the supply must come from heaven. Nigerians can’t wait.

My fears were borne out of the understanding of the challenges before this highly cerebral young man but does he possess the wherewithal of the requirements which could help him survive the bottlenecks inimical to this plagued ministry?

Many questions crossed my mind with no one to provide me with the answers.

In one of my WhatsApp messages to Chief Adebayo Adelabu who is also known as Penkele in the political circle, precisely the one dated 17th August, I prayed for God to give him the POWER and CAPACITY to deliver the required Power and electricity for Nigerians. I believe he would understand the essence of my prayers.

Why this ministry?
Why not his area of speciality?
Was it a plot to retire him out of politics?
Was it a plot to challenge his capacity?
Was this intentional to roughen his feathers?

But why would the Jagaban plan to throw his boy in front of the moving locomotive engine?
Why this?
Why that?
What happens?

Many whys and whats occupied my mind but no one to share my thoughts with………my people , the Yorubas in their very rich wisdom would say, “bi erù ba ko òkè, bi O ba ko ilè, O ni ibi Aa gbee kà” ( there is always a place for a load that doesn’t fit into the upper level neither the lower level) . I ended up praying for him.

Let me quickly state clearly here that Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Penkele and myself do not belong to the same political camp other than anything Ibadanism. As I always tell people that my Nigerian identity starts from Ibadan First!, then Yemetu Adeoyo irridentist. In everything, Ibadan comes FIRST and that has been my ONLY main relationship, if at all, with Bayo Adelabu, the Honourable Minister of Power.

The humongous notable saboteurs especially in the power sector will make all efforts in ensuring a novice like Chief Adelabu in the power sector ends up without any success. This we can’t over emphasize.

The powerful stakeholders and players in importing and distributions of heavy duty industrial generators are another threat.

The highly corruptible civil servants in his ministry would surely exploit Chief Adelabu’s ignorance of the Power sector and while this is going on, the impatient Nigerians , living in darkness will have no more than to go for Bayo’s jugular. That is where our man needs our prayers and support.

What I personally observe as inherent with Chief Adelabu is both lack of adequate communication or, and improper use of words. Another Ajuri Ngelale will surely help him in his regard. Our brother is not a good communicator. We should tell him this please.
The outsiders have started measuring Ibadans capacity with Bayo Adelabu’s performances. If he succeeds, they will say Ibadan man succeed and if otherwise, they will come heavy on us and abuse us badly. Bayo must not fail therefore. He must perform .

He must let the Nigerians know how far he has gone to mitigate the power problems and cry out for help where necessary. His quietness and usage of wrong words are not soothing to the ears of the people living in darkness. Nigerians aren’t happy.

Bayo’s initiative of classifying us into Bands A, B, C, D, E and F in power supply is not only strange but anti-people. According to the dictates of his ministry mission, he must generate, distribute and transmit electricity nationwide, facilitate the provision of adequate and affordable electricity for all Nigerians in both urban and rural areas irrespective of their social status. (Italics mine).

If eventually our Brother , Chief Bayo Adelabu is moved into another portfolio or retained in the Power ministry, we should intensify our supports, physical , spiritual and psychological and himself should learn and be prepared to be receipient of valuable advice and wisdom from elders. The Ibadan Elders has so much work to do on their son at this time. He deserves all our supports as well as heaven’s support.

I pray he will not be the only Ibadan man to be favoured in this dispensation because of massive supports we Ibadans lavished at the polls at the last general election that brought Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu into the office.

God bless Nigeria
God bless Ibadanland

May Ibadan excel…….

Organ Harvesting, Police Confirms Arrest Of 10 Suspects In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a gang of suspected ritualists who specialise in killing people and harvesting body parts for sale in various states. The suspects include a woman who is an Osun priestess, a community chief, an Ifa priest, an Islamic cleric, and a trado-medicine practitioner.

While confirming this burst on Friday, the spokesperson of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that the suspects who operate in one of the extreme divisions of Lagos were arrested through intelligence reports from the public.

According to him, the leader of the gang, a 33-year-old man, Ademola Akinlosotu, confessed initially that he was exhuming corpses from cemeteries and selling their parts to ritualists but later graduated to killing and selling human parts to customers on demand.

Speaking on his antecedents, Akinlosotu said that he moved from killing people to harvesting parts because his clients requested fresh parts rather than dead body parts. Akinlosotu said ”while I and some members of the gang would do the killings,” he would supply the parts to a 52-year-old man, Ahmed Wahab, aka Alfa Bororo, who operated from Badagry in Lagos State and Ogun State, to supply his clients.

The suspect said a fresh human head is sold at N45,000 or N50,000 while a dried human head sells between N30,000 and N35,000; heart for N70,000 and hands for N50,000.
Akinlosotu speaking further admitted to killing two persons, which included a friend he met through social media, before he was arrested.

He said before they killed anyone, the herbalist would be contacted to consult an oracle to determine whether the killing would be successful or would bring trouble. The suspect alleged that a traditional ruler in Badagry requested him to kill his son because he was giving him problems. He also said that the day they were to carry out the killing was when a friend he met online visited him, and he was killed. Akinlosotu said that all he harvests, when he kills, is the person’s head, the heart, and the hands.

Hundeyin said exhibits of different human parts were recovered from the suspects as the police continued the trail of other suspects. The command said that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.

Gas Explosion: Ogun To Tighten Truck Regulations to Enhance Road Safety

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that a policy that would enforce road worthiness of truck heads plying roads in the state would be put in place.

Addressing the Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo and his entourage, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, after visiting the site of last Saturday’s explosion, Governor Abiodun said attention would also be paid to gas cylinders used by the trucks to ensure quality and standard.

The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, said the steps became necessary in view of the preponderance of gas utilisation in the state.

He said: “I was very worried when the report of the incident reached me, and the reason for that is that Ogun State is the industrial capital of Nigeria with over 6,000 manufacturing industries and companies. We enjoy gas reticulation more than any other state in Nigeria.

“With the explosion, a lot of questions were asked as to what happened, how it happened, and the lessons learnt. We have received a preliminary report from the Ministry of Environment.

“We have taken some steps to forestal future occurrence. We have shut down the company involved to conduct a safety audit, and investigations are ongoing to determine the immediate cause of the incident and how to ensure that it does not repeat itself.

“We must ensure that truck heads that convey gas are road worthy. We are going to put in place a policy that enforces road worthiness of trucks and looks at issues around standards. These issues will govern quality and assure us of the quality of the gas cylinders.”

Prince Abiodun said he was worried about how the public would perceive the incident, especially with the constitution of the Presidential Task Force on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to deepen the provision, utilization and off take of gas across the country.

He stressed the need for the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) to be up and doing as the gas industry is fast evolving, noting that it was necessary to ensure adequate regulation of the industry.

While appreciating President Bola Tinubu for commiserating with the government and the people of the state on the incident, Governor Abiodun assured that his administration would collaborate with the federal government to find out the immediate cause and what needed to be done to guide against future occurrence and how to support those affected.

“I am glad that you have come and demonstrated that utmost responsiveness and concern which is heart warning and I am sure that your coming itself will assure the people of Ogun State that they are not alone in this incident and we, both the state and the federal government, are cooperating and collaborating to find solution to the incident,” the governor assured.

Speaking earlier, Rt. Hon. Ekpo, said he was in the state in his capacity as the Minister in charge of gas on behalf of the president, to assess the extent of damage done by the explosion and report same for proper and prompt response.

While sympathizing with the families of the victims and those who lost property and businesses, the Minister said despite the incident, there was a need to continue with the CNG initiative to drive the economy as it is the cleanest source of energy.

Ekpo said he came with managers of the gas industry to find out what happened with a view to looking at how to address it to prevent future occurrence, even as he appreciated the governor for rising up to the occasion to assuage the sufferings of the people.

“Let me assure you that at the Ministry, we are taking gas infrastructure very seriously and by the time we complete the AKK, the conveyance of gas through the visual means will be reduced by taking the impact away from our roads.

“I have also told the Authority Chief to ensure that the companies they may be releasing license to have the capacity to pipe the gas to the end users so that we do away with this unforseen circumstances that took place here,” the Minister assured.

Speaking while receiving the Minister and the deputy governor of Ogun State in his company premises, the Managing Director of Gasco Marine, Mr. Segun Ogunwunmi described the gas explosion as unfortunate, as the company, over the last five years since it commenced operations, has not recorded any incident.

He said facilities at the company are topnotch while the drivers are trained by officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, and the premises are checked regularly to ensure complaints with safety standards.

Ibadan Mogajis Meet Ladoja, Seek Speedy Installation Of Olakulehin As 43rd Olubadan

Ibadan Compound Heads otherwise known as Mogaji, have called on the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan Land, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, to fast-track the installation process of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan Land.

The compound heads led by Chief Asimiyu Ariori, stressed the need for the installation of the new monarch during a courtesy call on Ladoja at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.

Ariori commended Ladoja for his love and commitment to Ibadan customs and tradition. He stated that there was no time they had cause to seek his assistance, even at very great inconvenience, that he didn’t render it.

In his response, High Chief Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, assured that the coronation of Oba Olakulehin as the next Olubadan is only a matter of time.

He said he had decided to withdraw the suit he filed against the high chiefs from the court to give Balogun Olakulehin a soft landing.

According to him, the agreement already prepared between him and the crown-wearing high chiefs was being signed, adding that when it is eventually brought to him, he won’t hesitate to sign immediately.

Part of the agreement is that if and when he (Ladoja) becomes Olubadan, he won’t remove their crowns and deny the crown-wearing high chiefs their right and privileges.

He said he was compelled to go to court when the crown-wearing high chiefs and Kingmakers threatened not to appoint him Olubadan if his turn to become monarch came.

Ladoja stated that while he was not favorably disposed to desperation by any means, he does not like to treat threats from any quarters with kid gloves.

The former governor recalled that as Olubadan-designate, Oba Olakulehin will do the traditional rite. This, he said, culminated to his appointment as Olubadan-elect about three weeks ago, which has also been communicated to the State governor.
