Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has revealed that Nigeria would have spent N5.4 trillion on fuel subsidies by the end of 2024 if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hadn’t intervened. This amount is alarmingly close to the federal government’s N6.7 trillion budget for the year.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that President Tinubu’s bold move saved the country from potential bankruptcy, and the saved funds will now be invested in infrastructure development across Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to engage the government constructively rather than resorting to protests and violence.

The Governor also highlighted his administration’s measures to cushion the effects of subsidy removal, including deploying CNG buses, energy transition programs with e-bikes, reduced workdays for civil servants, free medical services for the poor and elderly, and completion of farmers’ markets across the state. The Gateway Trading Company will also sell food items at wholesale prices.

At a special church service commemorating Nigeria’s 64th National Day celebration, Diocesan Bishop of Ijebu North Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Dr. Akinwande Godwin Odubena emphasized leadership, unity, and prosperity as crucial for Nigeria’s future. He encouraged leaders to prioritize these values and work towards a better Nigeria.

Ladoja Reveals Obasanjo’s Role in His Impeachment: ‘It Wasn’t Adedibu or Akala

Former Oyo State governor, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has opened up about the controversial impeachment that led to his removal from office, naming former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the driving force behind the saga.

In an interview on Fresh FM, hosted by Isaac Brown, Ladoja dispelled the long-standing belief that the late Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu and his former deputy, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, orchestrated his ousting.

Ladoja shared the behind-the-scenes story, revealing that it was Obasanjo who pushed for his resignation, a demand Ladoja refused. “It wasn’t Adedibu or Akala, it was Obasanjo,” he stated.

Ladoja recounted his experience, including how he, along with fellow Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chief Gbenga Daniel, and Dr. Segun Agagu, went to plead with Obasanjo in Abeokuta during the Muslim festival of Eid-el-Kabir. Despite their efforts, Obasanjo insisted on his resignation.

Reflecting on the legal battle that followed, Ladoja credited the late Prince Bola Ajibola, a former World Court Justice, with helping him reclaim his mandate. He noted that Ajibola provided crucial advice that ultimately led to his victory in the Supreme Court.

This revelation sheds new light on one of Nigeria’s most controversial political events, highlighting Obasanjo’s pivotal role in the impeachment saga.
