There was a mild drama yesterday evening when a male adult was bundled and arrested at the Airport for chanting anti-Tinubu words.
Yet to be identified adult male passenger was carried off an Abuja to Lagos flight on Ibom Air on Friday evening after declaring that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, must not be sworn in as President.
According to an eyewitness, the man stood in the middle of the plane and raised his voice, stating that Tinubu must never be sworn in, adding that there would be “war” if that happened.
The airport security authorities were called before he could be evacuated after holding up the aircraft for more than an hour, as the 6pm flight was yet to move as of 7pm.
In the video obtained, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria security men could be seen carrying the middle-aged man off the plane, as he kept shouting, “Obidients, you’re here. They are doing this to me. Obidients you’re here, I am naked. Obidients you’re here, I am going naked.”
Some security experts who made their opinions known to the public on the matter opined that the arrested man has committed treasonable felony and could be prosecuted in due time while some also argued that he may be charged for public nuisance.
Following the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum given to the famous singer, Habeeb Okikiola, commonly called Portable, to turn himself in, the Ogun State police command has arrested the singer for refusing to honour the invitation.
Early on Tuesday, two videos of the musician raining curses and rough-handling some men of the Nigeria police surfaced on the internet.
Displeased by the conduct of Mr Okikiola toward the officers, the police gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the singer, a request that should elapse today, Friday.
The police who condemned the singer’s actions also threatened to prosecute him.
In the two videos, Portable claimed that an internet fraudster had brought the police to his bar to arrest staff members “for no reason.”
But the police noted that it acted on a petition.
When contacted over the phone on Friday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that the singer has been arrested and currently cooling his feet at the state headquarters of the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Mr Oyeyemi further said the Zazu crooner was arrested after refusing five invitations.
Crisis brewed yesterday in Ilare, a community in Ile-Ife, Osun State when some Oro adherents invaded Idi Omo Mosque, brutalized the Imam and descended heavily on the congregation with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons during afternoon prayer.
It was learnt that the fracas began during Asri Prayer, at Ìdí Ọmọh Ilare Mosque. The traditional worshipers said to have been infuriated seeing Muslim faithfuls observing their prayers while their traditional rite was ongoing.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to ODUDUWA NEWS under the condition of anonymity said, “there was a pandemonium at Idi Omoh Mosque, Ilare, Ile Ife, Osun State yesterday as scores of Oro worshipers mobilized themselves descended on the Imam of the Mosque and other Muslims during their evening prayer with different cutlasses and charms.
“They attacked the Muslim faithfuls in the Mosque and destroy properties. The incident occurred during their traditional ritual called ‘ORO’.
“The Muslim faithfuls who were injured are presently receiving treatment at the OAUTHC”.
ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Governor Seyi Makinde has immortalized the Late Governor Abiola Ajimobi by renaming the First Technical University, Ibadan after him.
Makinde made the announcement today during the second convocation ceremony of the school.
An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Thursday, ordered that a 36-year-old woman, Janet Jegede, be kept in custody as a criminal lunatic for stabbing her husband, Kayode, to death.
According to the charge, the defendant “on November 17, 2019, at Ado Ekiti, did murder one Kayode Jegede (her husband) contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”
Her stepson, Ayomide, in his statement to the police, had said he received a call from his stepmother asking him to come home to take his father to the hospital because she had killed him.
When I got home, I met my father in the pool of his blood, gasping. I saw a knife hanging on his chest. I asked her what happened, but her explanation was incoherent.
“When I removed the knife, the bleeding increased. I went outside to call neighbours to help me take him to the hospital. He was rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
“My stepmother once reported my father to me asking me to warn him to stop infidelity. She had threatened to kill him if he refused to stop. I took it as an empty threat until she killed my father,” Ayomide had said.
The prosecutor, Abayomi Olowoyo-Richard, called five witnesses and tendered statements of the defendant, a knife, photographs of the corpse of the deceased and statements of the witnesses as exhibits.
But counsel for the defendant, Emmanuel Adedeji, who said the defendant was mentally imbalanced at the time of the incident, urged the court to discharge and acquit her on the grounds of insanity.
In his judgment, Justice Omotoso said, “It is settled that where a plea of insanity succeeds, the defendant will be ordered to be confined in a prescribed place to await further order of the appropriate authority.
“I hereby order that the defendant, Janet Jegede, be kept in custody as a criminal lunatic at a correctional services centre, off Afao Road, Ado Ekiti, until the governor’s pleasure be known in line with Section 223 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2011.”
Aina Grace, a victim of domestic violence, has revealed how she escaped death in the hands of her Mother-in-law, Evangelist Eucharia Ifeyinwa Ojukwu , and Sister-in-law, Onyechukwu Precious Ojukwu both who assaulted her and stabbed her in the face.
The victim stated this when our correspondent visited her at Mobolaji Hospital, Oke Bola, where she is receiving treatment.
According to her, “This is not the first time of being abused physically by them, and the father of my son lives in South Africa. This particular incident that happened on Sunday, 26th of March 2022, almost claimed my life because I escaped death through the skin of my teeth.
“That fateful morning, I was washing and equally having a conversation with our neighbour as regards relationship. Onye, my husband’s younger sister, was inside the room overhearing our conversation. When my mother-in-law came back, she accused me of talking about their family to strangers, and in the bid to explain to her.
“While explaining to my my mother-in-law, she started beating me with cane. Suddenly, I saw my sister-in-law rushing from the kitchen with knife, as she approached targeting my neck, it was divine intervention that keeps me alive.
“I am calling on all law enforcement agencies and human rights groups to come to my aid. I need justice and I don’t have strength or know people. I equally charge the Iyagunku police station over ethical approach because my life is on the line.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called on motorists to desist from traveling when it is night, as a large number of road traffic crashes recorded in Nigeria were adduced to low vision and tiredness.
The warning came at the 2023 Mega Rally and Sensitization programme of the Oyo State Sector Command, which held at the Oja-Agbe Motor Park, Iseyin, Iseyin local government area.
The event where the FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu was represented by the Head of the Corps’ National Traffic Radio, DCC Honey Ogundayo witnessed an early morning rally by officers of the corps, members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), public school students and stakeholders from the community.
The Corps Marshal enjoined motorists to shun acts that endanger their lives and the lives of their passengers, as driving when tired and drinking while driving would lead to crash.
Dauda Ali Biu appreciated the traditional council of Iseyin community and other stakeholders that cut across, transport organizations, religious leaders among others for supporting the agency to reduce rate of fatalities from traffic crash.
“We have come again with the message of hope that we should preserve lives by being careful about the conditions we are before getting behind the wheel.
“There is no law that forbid night traveling in Nigeria, but if we will be factual, looking at the number of fatalities recorded from night travels, we will continue to advise against people traveling in the night, there are many dangers associated with it, the one driving might be tired, the condition of the vehicle might change and nobody to assist at that period of time,” he warned.
Honey Ogundayo however informed the general public that the newly-established FRSC radio, called National Traffic Radio could be reached through their phone number, 08052998090 while their toll free number remained 122 in case of traffic crash that require emergency response by the agency and health officials.
The Sector Commander, RS11.3 Oyo State, Corps Commander Joshua Adekanye spoke on the theme of the programme, which was “Driving Tired is as Dangerous as Driving Drunk: Avoid Night Trips, Worn Out Tyres and Excessive Speed”, charging commercial drivers to take heed of the advises, so as to avoid untimely death and loss of body parts to accidents.
“The choice of Iseyin as host of this Mega Rally is strategic; Iseyin is a town with high volume of vehicular movement in Oyo State, linking other towns in Oke-Ogun with Ibadan, the State capital, Iseyin is also home of farmers, rich in providing various foodstuffs in large quantities for Oyo and neighboring States in Southwest Nigeria.
“In the last few years, one of the corporate strategic goals of FRSC is to accomplish reduction in road traffic crash (RTC) and fatalities, this year’s theme of our sensitization is to call attention to what happens whenever a driver is tired behind the wheel, reactions become slower, ability to make decision and process information is impaired, which make it difficult to judge distances and speeds accurately, so we all must note this.”
The Chairman, Iseyin local government, Hon Mufutau Abilawon in his keynote address, enjoined participants at the programme to make sure their vehicles are roadworthy and abide by the appproved speed limits to avoid crash on the roads.
“I besiege all road users to please pay premium values on human live because it is irreplaceable, I strongly believe that road crashes, if they cannot be stopped, with right attitude of road users and utmost compliance with the road safety rules, warnings and guidance of the FRSC, they can be reduced to the barest minimum.”
The Ikolaba of Iseyin who represented the traditional council, harped on the need to expedite action on the Iseyin Licensing Office as the local government authority has provided an enabling office with power supply to facilitate the take-off of the office and save the people of the community the rigors of traveling to Saki and Eruwa to procure their driver’s license.
In his speech, the head of the Oja-Agbe unit of the State’s Park Management System (PMS), Comrade Folaranmi Kazeem, popularly called ‘Awo’, said due to the collaboration by his PMS in Iseyin withFRSC and periodic sensitization efforts given to his members, the rate of road crashes has reduced.
He added that the body has outlawed the sale of alcohol within its parks in the community, making it possible to achieve compliance with the message of driving without drinking of alcohol.
Highlights of the event include playlets by the members of the National Youth Corps Service (NYSC) and students of secondary schools on the dangers in driving under the influence of alcohol and other vices.
Earlier yesterday, the students of Government Secondary School and Oniyere Grammar School, Ibadan engaged themselves in free-for-all fight at Adeshola area of Oniyere, Ibadan.
In a video clip that went viral yesterday, students were seen brandishing several weapons to attack themselves while residents were calling for help.
Recall, ODUDUWA NEWS had earlier reported how some students of secondary schools situated at Molete, Ibadan clashed which resulted to inflicting of injuries on themselves while leaving innocent residents of the area to be scampering for safety. The aftermath of the crisis led to the indefinite closure of the affected schools by the Oyo State Government.
The renewed cases of hostage among secondary school children is alarming and has become a menace that all stakeholders need to find a lasting solutions to.
In the viral video, a teacher was also seen calling for assistance and help from the security agencies to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
Some of the students were putting on school uniforms, facing themselves in opposite direction and throwing stones, bottles and other dangerous weapons.
The teachers were incapacitated and could not curtail the incident.
As at the time of filing this report, no official statement has been made by the State Government concerning the incident.
The police in Ogun state have confirmed reports of its officers attempting to arrest singer Portable at his bar earlier today, March 28. Recall that a video went viral in which Portable caused a scene when some police officers came in to arrest him. In the viral video, the officers said they received a petition against Portable and were there to arrest him.
Portable argued that he is a super star, a federal government liability and someone who works for APC and so he cannot be arrested just like that. He mentioned that the officers did not invite him for questioning and so cannot come into his establishment to arrest him.
In a chat with LIB, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that men of the command went to effect Portable’s arrest.
According to Abimbola, four invitations have been sent to Portable to come for questioning after a fellow singer wrote a petition to the police command claiming Portable stormed his studio, got some people to beat him up, and then locked up his studio.
Oyeyemi stated that Portable failed to honor the invitations and so the officers after securing a warrant of arrest from a competent court of jurisdiction, went to his bar to get him arrested. He said Portable decided to cause a scene so as to prevent the police from doing their job. Oyeyemi told LIB that Portable’s father intervened and promised to bring the singer on or before Friday, March 31. He said the police will wait for Friday and that if Portable’s father fails to bring him to the station, they will proceed to arrest the singer.
Shola Akinlade, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Paystack, has purchased 55 percent ownership shares in Aarhus Fremad, a Danish third-tier division club.
Aarhus Fremad become a sister club to Sporting Lagos FC, a team in the Nigeria National League (NNL) founded by Akinlade in 2022.
Aarhus Fremad was founded in 1947. The club has been in a deficit of two million kroner about N89.6 million in the last two years.
The team sits top of the Danish third-tier division after 20 games played.
