Traders in the Lafenwa market, Abeokuta, are calling for help after a Ponzi scheme company allegedly vanished into thin air with their money.

According to testimonies of the victims, the company, Perennial global services limited, had allegedly approached them under the guise of helping them manage, and double their monies if the traders invested with them.

One of the victims said, “They came to us posing as a financial company and promised to give us loans to expand our businesses. We were asked to form groups consisting of a minimum of 10 people per group. We were asked to contribute N26,000 each.

Before we gave them our money, we visited their office to verify and ascertain if they were sc@mmers or not. We saw that they had a standard office and we proceeded with the contributions.

However, rumors had started spreading last week that the company was fake but unfortunately for us, we had deposited a lot of money with them. We got to their office space and found out that the staff had packed out. We only saw sprinkles of salt and other f£tish items in the office.

We need the good people of Nigeria to come to our aid and ensure these fra¥dsters are caught. We invested our hard-earned money only for us to be d¥ped. We reported the matter at Lafenwa police station but the police officers told us that they weren’t the ones who collected money from us so we would have to wait till investigations are concluded.”

The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has explained why she posted pictures of herself and President Bola Tinubu at the financial summit in Paris late.

She noted that she posted photos in the order received by her accompanying staff or colleagues.

The WTO boss had on Friday shared photos with some presidents she met with at the event on Twitter.

After she posted, netizens criticised her for not posting a picture with Tinubu.

She, however, shared pictures with Tinubu and other presidents on Saturday.

Reacting to the criticism, she tweeted, “Nigerians please relax! Re: Paris, Interesting attacks from both sides sadly show the depth of polarisation in our society.

“I post photos in the order received by accompanying staff or colleagues. Reading more into it is unwarranted. Let’s unite to build our country not attack!”

The Police Command in Lagos State on Friday arrested a 49-year-old woman over alleged theft of a day-old baby from a hospital.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

Hundeyin said that the Ojokoro Police Division carried out the arrest on Friday after receiving a report on the crime at about 6.00 p.m.

He said the police Division received information that the suspect arrived the hospital (name withheld) on the guise of being a patient and allegedly stole the infant.

”She entered the female ward and carried a day-old baby boy, while the mother was fast asleep after undergoing a surgery.

“Another patient noticed the fast movement of the suspect with the baby in her hand, alerted the hospital authority and the suspect was arrested.

“Upon interrogation, it was discovered that the suspect came from Oyo State.

”The suspect confessed that one Alfa contracted her to get a day-old baby to be used for money ritual,” he said.

Hundeyin said that further investigation revealed that this was the second incident of child theft to be carried out by the suspect. He said the baby has been returned to the mother.

The command’s spokesman said that the suspect would be prosecuted after completion of police investigation.

President Bola Tinubu, who was initially scheduled to be back in Abuja on Saturday from Paris, France, will now proceed to London, UK, for a short private visit.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser Special Duties, Communications & Strategy to the President, Dele Alake, in a statement on Saturday.

He said President Bola Tinubu on Friday concluded his official trip to Paris, France, during which he had “an outstanding participation in the summit for ‘A New Global Financing Pact’ hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.”

A magistrate court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo state, has remanded nine associates of Mukaila Lamidi, sacked chairman of the state park management system (PMS).

On Friday, the nine suspects were arraigned on a 16-count charge bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms.

The suspects are Olaniyi Abiodun, Kamoru Yusuf, Odunayo Ismaila, Kolawole Joshua, Oladosu Kunle, Fatai Abidemi, Oluwole Akanbi, Sarafadeen Adewale and Tirimisiyu Odunayo.

They were accused of attacking, maiming and dispossessing people of their valuables running into millions of naira in Ibadan.

Speaking during the trial, J. D. Olaniyan, counsel to the defendants, said the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case owing to the charges levelled against the suspects.

Olaniyan prayed the court to remand the suspects at Agodi correctional centre pending the time the case will be assigned to a competent court of law.

In his ruling, S.H. Adebisi, the magistrate, said the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case owing to the charges against the defendants.

He ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison and subsequently adjourned the case till July 26.

THE ARREST

On May 30, operatives of the Oyo police command raided a hotel belonging to Lamidi popularly known as Auxiliary and recovered arms, ammunition, cash, and charms.

He was said to have escaped during the raid which led to the arrest of 78 other suspects said to be loyal to him.

Some days later, the police declared Lamidi wanted.

ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that residents of Onigbodoki along Ajibode-Osajin area have been living in palpable fear as a result of collapsed high-tension wire-electric poles that fell on the road disrupting free flow of traffic.

According to our correspondent who visited the scene, traffic has been diverted to other roads as the two electric poles completely obstruct vehicular movement.

An eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent said, “if not for God’s mercy, the poles almost fell on a commercial vehicle plying the road. We just heard sudden collapse of the already distressed poles. The heavy rain that started this morning might have caused it”.

It was learnt that the staff of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company have been informed to come to the rescue of the people living in the axis but no proactive response yet.

As at the time of filing this report, emergency team has not been seen at the scene of the incident as people living in the community were seen making efforts to remove the fallen poles while ensuring that the high tension wire does not lead to electrocution.

More troubles loom for the Ibadan-based prankster, Trinity guy, as police set to charge him to Court on Monday, June 26, over his dehumanizing skits.

The Pilice Public Relation Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has however declared its readiness to charge Trinity to court on Monday. Noting that different individuals and authorities are interested in the case.

The controversial Ibadan-based Skit Maker, Abdullahi Maruf Adisa also known as Trinity has been invited by Oyo State Police Command over a disturbing viral skit content making round on social media concerning a female minor.

The Police in Ondo State have arrested a nurse, health assistant and security guard at the Comprehensive Health Centre, Emure-IIe, Owo Local Government Area, over the mysterious disappearance of a baby’s placenta.

The Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, made this known while speaking with the newsmen on Tuesday in Akure.

Odunlami-Omisanya explained that the three persons were arrested after the 23-year-old father of the newborn baby, Tunde Ijanusi, made a complaint about the incident at Emure-Ile Police Division H.

The police spokesperson said that the 19-year-old nursing mother gave birth to a baby girl on June 15 at the health centre and when the father of the baby asked for the placenta, the nurse and her assistant could not produce it.

“So, it is a case of negligence of duty and the nurse , health assistant and security were invited by the police and currently the case is being handled at the Emure-Ile division,” Odunlami-Omisanya said.

Speaking with the newsmen, the father of the baby, Ijanusi, said that he was worried after the health workers who took the delivery failed to give them the placenta of the newborn in line with tradition.

Also speaking, the paternal grandmother of the baby, Mrs Funmilayo Ijanusi, said that the report by the hospital officials that a dog entered the facility and stole away with the placenta was unacceptable.

She said that the personnel of the health center had attempted to persuade the family to let go of the matter, offering to discharge the mother of the baby without collecting any money.

“The importance of the placenta to the family, according to some community elders, is enormous. And the placenta tells more about the child’s glory; hence, it is dangerous to be in the wrong hands.

“Though the joy over the newborn is tainted with sadness, the family is clinging onto hope that spirited Nigerians and government to the missing placenta and serve justice on those involved,” the grandmother said.
