JUST IN: FG Approves Deadline For NIN-SIM Linkage

The Federal Government has approved extension of deadline for NIN-SIM data verification to July 26, 2021.

The government said the decision to extend the deadline was reached after a request by stakeholders on the needs to consolidate enrolment and NIN-SIM verification process.

It added the development followed the rapid increase in the number of enrolment systems across the country.

The linkage by Nigerians has hit 57.3 million.

The government made the announcement in a statement signed jointly by the Director of Public Affairs of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Dr Ikechukwu Adinde and Head of Corporate Communications of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Mr Kayode Adegoke.

The statement reads: “The Federal Government has approved the extension as part of its effort to make it easier for its citizens and residents to obtain the NIN and it is important to take advantage of the extension.

” There are now a total of 57.3 million unique NIN enrolments, with average of 3 to 4 SIMs per NIN. With the great number of enrolment centres across the country, every citizen and legal resident should be able to obtain their NINs.

” Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, on behalf of the Federal Government, appreciates Nigerians for their patience and compliance with the Federal Government’s directive on the NIN-SIM registration exercise.

“The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof Umar Garba Dambatta, and the Director-General/CEO of that National Identity Management Commission, Engr Aliyu Azeez, urge citizens and legal residents to make sure they use the opportunity to complete the process of enrolment and verification.”

Drama As Planned Arrest Of Park Management Chairman, Auxiliary By Policemen Foiled By Members

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that a mild drama occured at newly established Garage, Podo, Ibadan on Monday as members of the Oyo State Park Management System (PMS) foiled the attempt by some unidentified policemen, to arrest the Chairman of PMS Disciplinary Committee, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, a.k.a, Auxilliary.

The drama had started early in the afternoon when the unknown policemen arrived the Podo Garage and attempted to whisk Auxiliary away.
Sources close to the PMS said that the large number of PMS members at the garage prevented the said policemen from easily gaining entry into the office and taking Auxilliary away.

A source at the scene said that the PMS members were present in large number at the Podo Park on Monday because they were on hand for the fortnightly meeting at the Park.

The source said: “We smelt rat on sighting the two unmarked cars and seeing the policemen who were looking very strange.

“We quickly checked with the police in Oyo State and the police in the state denied sending anyone to arrest Auxilliary.

“The team that supposedly came from the IGP’s office claimed to have come from Abuja and that it was heading back to Abuja with instructions to pick Auxilliary. But we couldn’t allow them pick our man when their real identities were shrouded in secrecy.

“If it is about the incident that happened at Iwo Road, the Police in Oyo State has paraded some suspects and the case is on course, why the planned arrest of Auxilliary again, especially by Police from Abuja, that is why we were curious.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the PMS, Comrade Emiola Jelili said that he got wind of the incident but was told that his members who were at the park for the regular meeting rebuffed the alleged infiltration.

Oyo CAN Goes Spiritual, Declares July 2 Prayer Day Against Insecurity

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Oyo State chapter, has declared that July 2, 2021, will be set aside as a day of intercession against insecurity in Oyo State and the country.

This was part of resolutions reached on Monday, between the state government and CAN during a stakeholders meeting with the Christian body in the state.

During the meeting, the state government represented by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun and the Executive Assistant on Administration, Rev. Idowu Ogedengbe and CAN agreed to go spiritual, as the Christian body, vowed to hold a special praise, worship and prayer session to intercede for the state.

Recall that the state government, had met with Islamic and Traditional leaders in the state, who also agreed to work with the government to eradicate insecurity in the state.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, noted that the state government resorted in seeking the intervention of religious stakeholders in the State, to forge a new front against insecurity in the state.

“In a bid to renew our efforts against insecurity, Oyo state has been working tireless against insecurity in recent times. We have purchased needed gadgets and vehicles for security agents in the State and we will do more.”

“However, we can not do it alone, we apparently need to change our strategies and work with you religious stakeholders in the state.”

“We are meeting christians and Christian body for a specific reason, which is to trigger a religious war against the devilish act of banditry, abduction and insecurity in the state.”

“This government seeks to secure the state from insecurity and we will do so regardless of the state of the nation.”

“And as we redouble our efforts, we will never allow insecurity to divide us— this is why we have engaged representatives of all religion in the State: Christian, Muslim and traditional worshippers.”

In his comment, Chairman, CAN, Oyo State chapter, Apostle (Col) Joshua Akinyemiju, said the body in partnership with the Chaplain of the state government house will commence a powerful intercession for the state.

“Yes, insecurity is not exclusive to Oyo State, but we believe as Christians, we will not give in. We will intensify our efforts to pull down the strong hold of the enemy,” he said.

The CAN Chairman, however, berated those promulgating falsehood that the state government has neglected Christian or Islamic bodies, rather seeking only traditional means.

“We are glad this meeting is coming up today. This strategy by the State Government is commendable and we thank the Government for inviting us,” he said.

One Dead, Several Others Injured As Masquerade, Muslim Worshippers Clash In Osun

Some Muslims and traditionalists on Monday traded blame over who provoked the first attack in an alleged religious crisis in Osogbo, Osun state capital leading to the death of an elderly Muslim worshipper.

The Missioner, Kamorudeen Society, Ustaz Qosim Yunus said a Masquerade and its supporters deliberately provoked worshippers during a prayer programme at the society’s Central Mosque at Oluode Aranyin and shot one Alhaji Moshood Salawudeen, an Iwo resident, who was at the mosque for the service.

Yunus added that 14 other persons sustained various degrees of injuries including gun shot and cutlass wounds, adding that one of the victims is in critical condition.

“Almost 3 hours into the prayer, commotion occured at the hitherto peaceful environment of the mosque. Alas, the society praying for peace ended up being causalities as the Masquerade and its supporters led by an Ifa Worshipper, who is also an APC stalwart in Osun state, Chief Kayode Idowu stormed the Mosque and unleashed mayhem on the Islamic Faithfuls leaving one person dead and scores injured with various degrees of gun wound, the mosque vandalised, vehicles destroyed and other properties of the society destroyed.

“The remains of the deceased, Alhaji Moshood Salawudeen is already deposited at the morgue of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital and other people that are injured are presently receiving treatment at the hospital and Osogbo Central Hospital.

“Some of the victims presently at the hospital include; Abdul Jeleel, 12, Adebayo Awolesin, 15, Taofeek Fatai, 17, Malik Abdulkabir, 17, Quazeek Al-Ameen, 12, Quazeem Aseyori, 47, Ayuba Abdulhakeem, 60, Abdulsalam AbdRauf, 39, Ajagbe Ishaq, 37, Owolabi Maruf, 45, Risiqat Zakariyahu, 45, Isiaq Ibraheem, Yahaya, and Oladosu Halimat, 47”, he said.

Addressing a press conference at the Osun Corresponts’ Chapel in Oshogbo, Coalition of Muslim Rights Activists of Nigeria (COMRAN) gave government and police 72 hours to effect the arrest of the deity’s custodian, Kayode Esuleke and others involved in the killing of the deceased.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Abdulganiy Sahid also demanded that Government takes over the management of all the injured victims at the hospital, take care of the vandalized properties, saying failure to do so would force the group to demonstrate it constitutional capacity to defend and protect itself, as well as its property and interest.

However, Ifashola Esuleke, who escorted the masquerade said the procession was attacked by the Muslim worshippers, who attempted to unveil the deity.

He added that about five supporters of the masquerade were also injured during the crisis, including a youngboy that was stabbed in the stomach.

“We passed through the area peacefully to pray for a family member in the community and when we were returning, one of the worshippers, like it was their tradition, attempted to unveil the masquerade but was protected by its followers.

“Some of our people too were injured while those held hostage were later rescued by the Police and Agbekoya Association who escorted us to the area”, he added.

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that the veteran nollywood actor, Baba Ijesha has been rushed to hospital by his confidant, who is also an actor, Yomi Fabiyi after he was reported to have developed blood cloth (hemorrhoid) in his defeacation after he was granted bail.

Recall that Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja granted him a bail of 2million Naira on Thursday, June 24. According to Taiwo, bail is a fundamental entitlement, not a discretionary one.

Meanwhile, the embattled Nollywood actor’s release on bail does not mean he is no longer charged with indecent treatment, sexual assault, attempted sxual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by pentration.

As at the time of filing this report, Baba Ijesha is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

11 Dead, 22 Others Hospitalized In Osun Auto Crash

ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that an accident occured along Gbongan-Ibadan road where two vehicles collided on Friday has resulted to loss of lives and several others injured.

It was confirmed to our news media that no fewer than 11 persons have been confirmed dead and 22 others injured in the auto crash.

The accident, which occurred around 9.05pm, took place opposite Ayedaade local government secretariat in the state.

The spokesperson, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Osun State chapter, Agnes Ogungbemi in a signal said the accident involved two commercial vehicles, a White Mazda E2000 Bus and a Black Toyota Hiace Bus with registration numbers KJA392YA and GWL427YM respectively.

The FRSC spokesperson revealed that the vehicles had a head-on collision probably caused by route and speed limit violation.

She further said 16 of the injured victims were taken to Ariremako Hospital in Gbongan while the remaining 6 were taken to Osogbo Central Hospital.

“10 corpses were deposited at OAUTH Ile Ife morgue.

“The remaining corpse was taken by the insisting relatives who are from the Hausa community in Lagos,” she added.

JUST IN: Okada Rider Abandons Wife In Hospital After Giving Birth To Twins

ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that an Okada rider has abandoned a 24-year-old woman, Abibat Kehinde, at Epe General Hospital, Lagos State, over N131,000 unpaid bills, three months after she gave birth to twins at the hospital.

Mrs Kehinde told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Epe that her husband absconded after delivery on March 21, without paying the bills to facilitate her discharge from the hospital.

“My husband is a commercial motorcycle rider.

“He absconded since I gave birth to the twins on March 21.

“I wasn’t ready for the second child before but God knows best,” she said.

The mother of twins said that she lacked sufficient food to eat while the babies also lacked basic nutrients since her abandonment three months ago.

“My husband said that he couldn’t afford to feed one child, not to talk of feeding two children with their mother; and he complained about the huge hospital bill before he left.

“Since he left the hospital, he has not returned to check on me and the children till date. He abadoned us in the hospital and absconded,” Mrs Kehinde said.

She said that she managed to raise N30,000 out of her medical bill of N161,000, leaving a balance of N131,000 yet to be settled.

“I have been in the hospital since March without being discharged by the management of the hospital.

“The hospital bill keep increasing every day and I don’t have alternative means to offset the hospital bills,” she said.

Mrs Kehinde appealed to the hospital management to discharge her and the baby twins.

Ayanbisi Rauf, Social Welfare Officer at Epe General Hospital, confirmed that the woman had been abandoned by her husband.

“The husband abandoned the patient in the last three months and all efforts made by the hospital authorities to locate him proved abortive,” Mr Rauf said.

He said the patient would only be discharged if she paid 90 per cent of her total bills.

Mr Rauf said that two other nursing mothers having similar plight with Mrs Kehinde would remain in the hospital until they settle their bills.

He appealed to benevolent individuals and organisations to assist the women in settling their bills so as to discharge them from the hospital.

JUST IN: JAMB Releases 2021 UTME Results, Witholds Others

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) on Friday released results of candidates who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Saturday, 19th and Tuesday, 22 June 2021.

It directed candidates to check their results by sending UTMERESULT to 55019 through the GSM number used by each candidate to obtain profile code and UTME registration with the board and their results would be relayed to them.

The statement reads: “The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of candidates who sat in more than 720 CBT centres for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted between Saturday, 19th and Tuesday, 22 June 2021.

“Each concerned candidate is advised to check his/her result by sending UTMERESULT to 55019 through the GSM number used by each candidate to obtain profile code and UTME registration with the Board and their results would be relayed to them. Result for subsequent days would be released daily.

“The Board notes with satisfaction that the utilisation of NIN (National Identification Number) has helped in curbing examination malpractices as the 2021 UTME has recorded the least incidence of irregularities since the inception of the CBT examinations in Nigeria.

“Nevertheless, the Board would still review all the CCTV footages and other technical gadgets for detection of possible examination misconducts.

“Extremely comparatively few results are being withheld for further investigation.

“In addition, the Board would not hesitate to withdraw the results of any candidate subsequently found to have committed any form of examination misconduct.”

Chief of Defence Staff, Irabor, Others Present As Taiwo Akinkunmi Unveils World Largest Flag In Ibadan

Renowned designer of the Nigeria national Flag; Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi (OFR) has today unveiled the world’s largest national flag in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The flag, which covers an area of 3,275.6 square metres, a length of 75.3 meters and a width of 43.5 meters, has surpassed the former Guinness world record of the largest flag that belongs to the United Arab Emirate which covers an area of 2,448.6 square meters.

It was gathered also that Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Major-General Irabo, attended the programme.

Pa Akinkunmi, 85, a retired civil servant, stated that the journey to creating Nigeria’s national flag started about sixty-three years ago when he was studying electrical engineering at Norwood Technical College in London.

He added that: “I have always dreamt about Nigeria being at the front of every good thing and I’m delighted to be part of this historical event.”

Present at the unveiling ceremony, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, said: “Let us always remember that the flag is not a mere symbol of Nigeria, it is a symbol of a United Nigeria. Let us work together for unity and love in the country.”

The unveiling was attended by members of Pa. Taiwo Akinkunmi’s family, close friends, and singer; Timi Dakolo who entertained guests by singing the Nigeria National anthem and his “One Nigeria great nation” song.
