Armed Forces Remembrance: Gov Akeredolu Hails Military Personnel, Distributes Loans To Widows Of Departed Soldiers

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has assured the people of the state that no effort will be spared to protect their lives and property.

Governor Akeredolu hailed the military for its efforts in the fight against terrorists, gunmen masquerading as herdsmen, bandits and other criminals elements in the country.

The Governor spoke on Saturday at the Final Parade and Laying of Wreaths in Commemoration of the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at the Government Cenotaph, Alagbaka, Akure.

He praised both the departed and the living heroes for their patriotism, even as he encouraged the people to complement government’s efforts by donating generously towards the wellbeing of the Legionnaires.

“Indeed, we are here today to appreciate all our fallen heroes, both military and civilians as well, who have shed their blood for the unity and peace of this country. They, indeed, fought a good fight for the sustainability of their fatherland. We are here to say well done to them and those who have been favoured to be alive till today.

“We on our part, without mincing words, have come to praise them, both the departed and the living, for their patriotism. They died our deaths, they bore our injuries, and they lost their lives for humanity. They have indeed sacrificed their lives for us to know peace. My people, they deserve our praises, they deserve our honours, and they deserve our appreciations.

“It would amount to doing them the greatest injustice, just to praise them with words alone, but valuable, when it is backed up with our supports, financially and materially,” the Governor stressed.

He equally appreciated those in charge of the security apparatus in the State including the Amotekun Corps for their efforts at ensuring peace and order in Ondo State, adding that government recognized and acknowledged their efforts as well as saluted their gallantry and sacrifices.

Governor Akeredolu distributed microcredit revolving loans to 52 widows of the departed heroes in the state.

While presenting the Cheques to the beneficiaries of the loan facilities, the Governor disclosed that since his administration came on board in 2017, it has been touching the lives of a considerable number of the widows of the departed heroes through the microcredit revolving loans.

He noted that the loan facility is to assist in resuscitating their trading businesses which had gone down over the years due to overbearing family commitments which were hitherto the primary responsibility of their husbands.

Akeredolu promised to continue to sustain the scheme and other packages as would be deemed fit to make the widows self-employed, self-reliant and independent through capacity training with start-up packages.

Others who laid wreaths after Governor Akeredolu include Brigade Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Yakubu Yahaya; Commanding Officer, Nigerian Navy Forward Operation Base, Igbokoda, Commodore A. Zubairu; Commissioner of Police, Oyediran Oyeyemi; the Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun; the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Williams Akintoroye; State Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Col. Olu Apata (Rtd); the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi; and the Chairman, Akure South Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Olaniyi.

The event was attended by the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, other members of the State Executive Council, widows of the fallen heroes among several other dignitaries.

Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC, have arrested one Bolarinwa Oluwasegun, a fake Army General, for an alleged N270m fraud.

The suspect, who posed as a General in the Nigerian Army, allegedly made false representations to the complainant, Kodef Clearing Resources, that the President, Muhammadu Buhari, had shortlisted him and one other to be appointed as the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, and that he needed a short grant “to press and process the appointment.”

He also allegedly forged a letter of appointment as COAS purportedly signed by the President and showed the same to the victim to further prove his claim. For details of this and other stories, visit our website: www.efccnigeria.org.

President’s Visit: Ogun Residents Taunt Dapo Abiodun, Ask Him To Take Buhari To Sango-Otta Road

As President Muhammadu Buhari visits Ogun State on Thursday, residents of the State have taunted Governor Dapo Abiodun, telling him to take the President to the dilapidated roads in Sango, Ota, Akute, Alagbole, Ijoko and others in Ifo and Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Areas.

It was reported that Gov Abiodun had on Wednesday announced on his verified Facebook page that the President would be in Ogun to commission roads and two housing units constructed by his administration.

As the governor cordially invited Ogun residents to join him in welcoming the President, the post was greeted with various comments, asking him to take Buhari to the areas where roads have become almost impassable.

Abiodun was also asked to visit other parts of the State with the President so as to give him on-the-spot assessment of things in other places.

Here are some comments:

Bello Isiaka: “Take him (Buhari) to Ijoko, Alagbado and Ojodu Akute to see how bad the road is and how much you have neglected the people around that area. You are too slow.”

Oyedele Oyewumi: “Ojodu Berger-Alagbole, Akute-Agbado-Ijoko-Sango roads need to be commissioned by the President. Let Mr. President ply that road and see what we’re going through in that axis.”

Kayode Adebayo: “Your Excellency Sir, don’t also forget Sango-Alagbole road, because it should also be commissioned by our dear president and let him also tour the road from Ijoko to Alagbole. Awon oniyeye.”

Alhaji Kashimawo: “Mr President is fully wellcome. Please Mr Governor, let him pass through Lagos-Alakuko-Tollgate-Sango and then Sango-Ijoko-Agbado, Okearo-Akute roads and then expect good commendations from Mr President.”

Oluwatoyin Kafilat Balogun: “Please let Mr President see the good work being done at Sango, Akute, Agbara, Sagamu and Ijebu. I’m sure he will hug you, peck and even kiss you for a job well done.”

Olatunde Oladunjoye Pics: “If you can take him to Ijoko, Agbado Akute, Alagbole, Berger, for him to see how bad the roads are. Mr governor, no improvement in that area at all. No recreation for youths, no good roads, no streets. I am tired sir, please make changes.”

Lagos Environmental Task Force Arrests 12 For Trading, Sleeping On Pedestrian Bridges

Following the consistent outcry from members of the general public on the activities of hoodlums and traders who have turned pedestrian bridges to places of abode, the long arm of the law has caught up with twelve (12) offenders at the Oshodi and Ladipo areas of Lagos State.

The Corps Marshal of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd) disclosed this revelation at the Command Headquarters of the Agency in Bolade-Oshodi after she led a tactical team on the raid.

According to her, “the hoodlums and defiant traders are partners in progress when it comes to desecrating pedestrian bridges meant for pedestrians to access instead of crossing the highways as one side is trading illegally and the hoodlums lay about to rob innocent citizens”.

While speaking on the arrest, CP Akinpelu reiterated the commitment of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu towards a cleaner and greener environment of which the mandate falls with LAGESC to rid the State of environmental infractions.

She avowed that the Agency will not rest on its oars to deliver on that mandate.

She stated that the government erected pedestrian bridges strategically across major highways in the State to assist residents in crossing the highways with a view to reducing hit and run vehicle drivers and to also avoid accidents in the state.

Akinpelu bemoaned the activities of traders who are in the habit of displaying their wares on the pedestrian bridges which hinders free human movement and hoodlums notoriously known for sleeping on these bridges and robbing pedestrians as it is not an acceptable practice in Lagos.

She affirmed that the corps is determined to rid the state of illegal trading on and around pedestrian bridges whilst warning that anyone caught using the pedestrian bridges for illegal activities would be dealt with in line with the legal framework of the State.

She finally revealed that those arrested will be charged to court in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Law 2017 (as amended) to serve as a deterrent for others not to attempt.

Mother, First Son Kill Younger Sibling For Yahoo Plus Ritual In Lagos

The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended one, Afeez Olalere 32, and his mother for killing his kid brother for money rituals.
According to reports, Afeez, revealed that his mother had encouraged him to kill his kid brother for money ritual.

He made the shocking confession when he was arrested saying “my mother took me to an herbalist who told me if i want to be successful in the yahoo business I will have to sacrifice one life and that person must be a sibling to me.

“The things he would need to prepare a concoction with are his thumbs, his hair, fingers and a passport photograph.

“So, we went back home and thought about it, then my mother suggested tha we use my younger brother since he is just 21years old.

“She also brought the poison which we gave him to eat. He died within 20minutes after consuming the food. I was the one who cut out the body parts needed. We then wrapped his dead body and headed to the mortuary,” the suspect confessed.

The suspects were caught during a search operation along Itamaga, Ikorodu Road in Lagos.

Olubadan Stool: Your Position Is Borne Out Of Courage, Conviction – Lanlehin Commends Makinde

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his position on the Olubadan stool and who becomes next Olubadan of Ibadan.

The statement read: “Like every true Ibadan indigene and lover of truth, equity and justice, I received, on Tuesday, 11 January, 2022, news of the position of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on the ascension to the revered Olubadan stool, with pride and gladness.

“My joy had no bounds in relation to the position of the Governor, on the appropriate, morally-upright and legally-justified route to the stool, devoid of the needless and avoidable crisis thrown up on the matter, by the immediate past administration. If the then government hadn’t attempted to fix an unbroken piece – a time-tested, respected and globally commended institution, we sure wouldn’t be here discussing this.

The Governor’s position, without doubt, is one borne out of courage and conviction, in the defence of the time-honored, fool-proof and established traditional institution of the ancient city. Standing by the truth, particularly given the possible political undercurrents, may not have been easy, but that the governor has chosen to, deserves commendation.

OAU student: Adedoyin’s lawyer demands probe of Oriyomi Hamzat for cyberbullying, defamation

The head of the legal team representing Dr Ramon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, Abiodun Williams, has petitioned Osun state police command, demanding the probe of a journalist, Oriyomi Hamzat, for cyberbullying and defamation.

Williams in the petition addressed to the state Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode, obtained in Osogbo on Monday, also called for the probe of Hamzat’s phone log, alleging that a police operative was divulging critical information to the journalist regarding the probe into the death of Timothy Adegoke, a Master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University, at the Hilton Hotel.

The lawyer also said Hamzat had been misleading and inciting the public against police authorities through social media since investigation commenced into the circumstances surrounding Adegoke’s death.

The petition read in parts, “We sadly observed that in the video titled ‘More Update on Dr Rahman Adedoyin and Timothy Adegoke Murder Case’ posted on the same channels in November 2021, Mr Oriyomi Hamzat placed a call to a person that appears to be one of your officers in the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.“Osun State Command, who in turn divulged critical information on the ongoing police investigations to thousands of viewers around the world.“This is not only highly unprofessional, but it is also an outright act of gross irresponsibility. We are of the opinion that if Mr Oriyomi Hamzat’s phone number and call logs are subjected to diligent investigation, the identity or identities of some of your men that are sabotaging your commendable efforts on this case may be revealed.“Finally, sir, we humbly demand that Mr Oriyomi Hamzat be invited, questioned and possible criminal charges filed against him for defamation, character assassination, cyberbullying, misinformation and inciting the public against the police authority in a manner that may derail police investigations and cause.

Governor Akeredolu, while describing the attack on the community as unfortunate, vowed that concerted efforts will be made to ensure that such attack does not reoccur in the state.

He said:”I commiserate with you on the death of your loved ones. May their souls Rest In Peace. No government will be happy with this kind of development.

“But you have to be prepared. These herdsmen are becoming too problematic. We are not sleeping. You can see Police and Amotekun here. With this one they have done, we will ensure that it is their last evil act here.

“Those behind this are criminals. Those supporting them are all criminals too. Anyone who commits crime will answer for it. The Police and Amotekun with other security agencies will set out and bring them to justice. We will treat them like criminals.

“Both the Police and Amotekun have briefed me that they were being shot at. But for their boldness and courage, the criminals would have overwhelmed them.

“I want to assure you, don’t be scared. We are still on their track. They have ran to Edo now. But for the houses that were raised down, government will bring relieve material. We will rebuild the ones that were razed completely.”

Earlier, the Akarigbo of Ute Land, Chief Felix Olabode, narrated how the ugly incident happened.

He said:”I was home when we heard that some gunmen came and killed people here. We came here immediately and we met a dead body. These buildings have not been razed.

“When we alerted the Police, the DPO came and we didn’t know that those people were still around. Not less than 30 minutes after the Police evacuated the dead bodied, the gunmen came back and razed these buildings down.

“They always use guns to scare people away here and then brought their cows to graze on people’s farm and drink water. When they are leaving too, they also use guns to scare people away and leave. We have seen the level of damage here. People have left here. We are begging the government to come to our rescue.”

Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) in the area, Folorunso Olofe disclosed that the gunmen were always attacking with AK 47.

“This has been happening for long. They are always coming with AK 47, they were more than 50. One Amotekun officer was hit with a bullet during the attack. They came and killed the Baale. Police came and evacuated the dead bodies and not up to fifteen minutes, they came back and razed this place.” He said.

According to the villagers, the gunmen attacked the community following the refusal of the residents to allow the herdsmen to graze on their farms.
