Christmas festivities turned into a day of mourning for nine families in Inisa, Osun State, as a truck loaded with beans crashed on Monday morning.
Three other passengers sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.
The accident occurred near Yidi Junction in Inisa, involving a Mitsubishi Canter truck (plate number MNA606SB) conveying beans from Niger to Edo State.
The driver was suspected to have fallen asleep on wheel, leading to the loss of control and subsequent crash.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the tragic incident,
Adeleke said the deceased persons’ remains have been transferred to a morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at an hospital.

Some hoodlums in Ibadan attacked a bus carrying Christmas gifts meant for family heads (Mogajis), carting away the donations. The incident occurred at the Oja Oba area of Ibadan while the bus was making a U-turn. The donor’s identity remains undisclosed.
The bus, en route to the Olubadan Palace from Beere, was led by the Mogaji of Onilari compound, Nurudeen Akinade. Following the incident, arrests have been made, and the case has been reported at Mapo Police Station.
“The hoodlums attacked the bus carrying some Christmas gifts meant for some Mojajis in Ibadan at Oja Oba. We were able to make some arrests after the incident. The hoodlums carted away the gift items donated to the Mojajis. I cannot say who is the donor. I don’t know if it is government or an individual that gave them. We have reported the case at Mapo Police Station. The bus was carrying items like rice, chicken, and groundnut oil. We were able to recover some items during the search of some shops in the area.”
The 2024 Ibadan Cultural Festival Planning Committee on Thursday, 21st December 2023 expressed the desire of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes through the Cultural Festival Committee to honor Fresh FM 105.9 and Dr. Yinka Ayefele with Awards of Excellence to appreciate the contribution of both Fresh FM and its Chairman in the development of Ibadanland.
The visit to the Music House was led by the Chairman of the Cultural Planning Committee, Balogun Gaphar Ojetola, and had in attendance the Vice Chairperson of the Committee, Dr. Chief Alaga Ayo Monsurat, Secretary of the Committee; Engr. Musa Akere, Chairman, Media and Publicity Sub-committee & CCII Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Olomide and other respected members of the committee.
On hand to receive the CCII team at FRESH FM among others were Mr Samson Akindele; Head of Corporate Affairs and Communication, Dr. Adebayo Faleke; Head of Marketing and General Manager of TIWA N TIWA FM and Mr Chike Ogbogu, Head of News of the station.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ibadan Cultural Festival Planning Committee, Balogun Ojetola appreciated the Management of Fresh FM Ibadan for upholding the tenets of broadcasting and contributing immensely to the socio economic development of Ibadanland.
According to the Chairman, the visit was part of the pre-activities of the Cultural Festival towards ensuring that every indigene and resident of Ibadan and beyond got informed about the week.
Balogun Gaphar Ojetola also emphasized the fact that it is only Ibadan throughout the southwest with a unified body called Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, ” the uniqueness of the arrangement has been complementing government activities in areas promoting the Omoluabi culture, settling disputes, empowering people and promoting peace and tranquility among others” he added.
He further explained the beauty of Ibadanland as a megalopolis…a city without an end, 1 city, 63 towns, 3089 villages with 11 Local Governments, yet one people, unified with love and culture.
The Chairman outlined activities of the week which will span through seven (7) days in April, 2023 to include Prayers in Churches and Mosques, Orekelewa Brain and Beauty Contest, Amala and Fuji music day, Sporting competitions, Educational Contests from Primary, secondary and University categories, Medical Outreach, Shop for free, Business Luncheon, Youth Conference, and engagement with the Grand Finale finale to be held at Liberty Stadium.
In his response, Mr Samson Akindele applauded the visiting team for the great work CCII is doing, most especially on the new OLÚBÀDÀN palace which the first phase is nearing completion.
Mr Samson Akindele pledged the support of the Media house to promote the cultural festival from the pre, during and after the festival with lavish media coverage.
He expressed the delight of the organization to the news of Awards to be given the station and its founder, promising to keep promoting and supporting Ibadanland and its people.
The Yaba magistrate court in Lagos state has remanded two friends identified as Noah Tovohome and Rajay Zannu, to a correctional center for allegedly plotting and killing their friend, Segun Zusu, over 36 bags of rice.
According to the police inspector, Chekwube Okeh, the duo in November 2023 allegedly plotted with a boat driver who was conveying Zusu’s goods from Seme to kill him and steal the bags of rice. The police told the court that investigations showed that they intercepted the boat around 2 am, at Novo River in Seme, used a plank to beat Zusu up, and threw him inside the river. The suspects therafter carried the bags of rice to Badagry, sold them for about N1.4m to a businesswoman and shared the money.
The charges read in part;
“That you, Noah Tovohome, 27, Rajay Zannu, 38 and others at large, on November 12, 2023, around 2 am, at Novo River, Seme, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one 26-year-old Segun Zusu, by hitting a plank on his head and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
The police prosecutor told the court that the offence contravenes Section 222 and is punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. He prayed the court to remand them to a correctional centre pending the outcome of legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Magistrate Balogun granted the prayer and ordered that the duo be remanded to the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the outcome of legal advice from the DPP. The case was then adjourned till January 22, 2024, for the DPP’s advice.
There seems to be an end to land grabbing issue in Oyo State as public hearing on land protection bill, 2023 was held today at the House of Chiefs, Oyo State Parliament building.
Many people from all works of life were in attendance to submit their inputs and amendment to the bill.
The Chairman House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Dele Adeola in his opening remark said he was excited to welcome all distinguished guests and personalities that graced the occasion.
“It is important to state that there is existing law in the State to curb the incident of land grabbing which is the Real Properties Protection Law, 2016 passed by Oyo State House of Assembly in 2016. With the implementation of the Law under reference by Governor Makinde led administration, it was discovered that the Law was defective and could not achieve the purpose of curbing land grabbing activities in the state. Hence, the Government decided to bring and initiate new bill tagged: Oyo State Real Properties Protection Bill, 2023”.
“The new bill is all encompassing and really addressing all grey areas that needed to be addressed. It seeks to do among other things; repealing the existing Law and creating a functioning Agency under the Governor’s Office for proper monitoring and financing to get an appreciable result”.
In her words, Rtd. Hon. Justice Aiki while submitting her amendment proposal, commended the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Executive Governor of Oyo State for deeming it fit to nib in the bud the activities of land grabbers in the state through the instrumentality of law which has culminated into the drafting of this important bill.
The representatives of the Commissioner of Police and DG Operation Burst, also submitted their inputs and they all recommended that there should be synergy between the statutory law enforcement agencies and the taskforce in the discharge of duties while the power to detain a suspect should exclusively be reserved for the national law enforcement agencies.
In his words, Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Sefiu Oyebola III, said he would recommend that the bill should be amended to ensure that there are checks and balances so as to prevent unnecessary abuse of powers by the law enforcement agencies. He also suggested that there should be autonomy for the agency in order to aid smooth running its establishment.
Among people in attendance were traditional rulers which included Iba Kishi of Kishi Land, Olu of Igboora and Aseyin of Iseyin among other stakeholders.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has stated why Mohbad’s case is inconclusive but not closed.
He stated this while replying to a journalist who pleaded for the governor to take up the matter, as Mohbad was his son.
She narrated how citizens were really keen on knowing the culprits responsible for Mohbad’s death, pointing fingers at some people who travelled out of the country at first but later returned to the country, but after a month of investigation , they were bailed and declared not guilty of any crime.
The journalist said, ”If there was a huge outcry in Nigeria and the diaspora at the time, and people were almost calling for the heads of these people, which was going around all over social media that they were involved in this crime when Mohbad died.
Eventually, they were returned from other countries, and the investigation was conducted for a month. And we were told they were on bail as they were not found guilty.
After a month, the same people hit social media, flaunting themselves, holding their phones, and saying something like ”opor! opor!!” To me it’s a way of bragging.”
She also recalled how the governor gave her his promise three years ago on Sylvester Omoni’s case that they were working on it, but as it is, the case is as good as dead.
Governor Sanwo-Olu replied to that by saying,” There are no emotions, it’s not emotional; people get killed, we see it every day; I don’t go to bed until 5 am.
We will do the job and do it well; Mohbad’s case is still alive; the police are here, we keep treating it, and they had to take the forensic out. The forensic that we built, which is the best in the sub-Sahara campus; it was burnt down during endsars.
We had to take the tests out; they’ve done all their reports. It’s until the result is back, that we can link the two together. There are people in detention as we speak; they have not been released. Let’s give a little credit when it is necessary.”
ODUDUWA NEWS had reported how a Magistrate Court ordered a remand of Baale of Ilua community in Saki-West Local Government area of Oyo state, Chief Kilani Azeez Ajani.
Today, the Chief has been released to return to reunite with his family having met with the bail conditions given to him by the court.
Recall that the traditional Chief as well as five others were remanded in Abolongo prison in Oyo Town.
They were alleged of assaulting Barrister Waheed Lawal, in Saki.
The chief while speaking with newsme, on Friday confirmed he has been released from custody after he has met with bail conditions.
He thanked the people of Saki and other well-wishers for their prayers and support in the ongoing trial.
When asked to speak on the ongoing trial, he said the matter is before a competent court adding that he will not speak on a matter before a court.
His words: “Yes, I’m back home in Saki. I have met the bail conditions given by the court and I have been granted bail. I want to thank the good people of Ilua community, Saki West local government area and well-wishers for their supports and prayers. May Allah bless everyone.
“Sorry, I don’t want to speak on a matter before a competent court of law. The case is before the court, let’s allow the court to decide. Thanks.
“If leaders and elders in Saki call for a peaceful resolution on the matter. I’m ready to honour the invitation and arrangement. As a community chief, I’m in support of anything that will bring peace and harmony.”
Before the accident that claimed Nwankwo’s life happened, a motorcyclist and another student of the university, Deborah Okunola, had been injured in another accident.
While they were being attended to, a motorcyclist conveying Nwankwo, upon arriving at the scene, got carried away and lost control, after a bus coming behind hit it.
OAU spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, while commenting on the development said “Around 11 am, along Road 1, an accident involving two Okadas and two vehicles occurred.
“One particular Okada rider was trying to overtake a red-coloured Toyota Corolla car. Unfortunately, the side mirror of the car hit the motorcycle and the rider fell with the passenger.
“The passenger is a Part 2 student of Psychology in our school by the name, of Deborah Okunola. As those were trying to attend to themselves, one Chika Nwakore carrying a Part Five female student of the Department of Agric Economics by the name of Chisom Nwankwo arrived at the scene.
“The motorcyclist carrying Nwankwo was distracted by the first accident and he lost concentration. A bus that was coming behind hit the bike. The rider and the passenger fell.
“What we were told was that Nwankwo and the okada man were injured and taken to our health centre where they were referred to the OAU Teaching Hospital Complex but unfortunately, Nwankwo was later declared dead.
“The body is in the Anatomy Section on the campus. The university authority has informed the police and is taking necessary action. The Vice-Chancellor is not happy with the situation and management has frowned at all this carelessness on our roads.
“We sympathise with the parents of the deceased and we pray that God Almighty will give them the fortitude to bear the terrible loss. We are not happy to lose any of our students
