Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to six months in jail with no option of fine.
The judgement was handed down on Friday morning, April 12.
Recall that on April 5th, EFCC arraigned Bobrisky in court on a six-count charge ranging from Abuse of the Naira and Money laundering. The court, however, dismissed the money laundering charges but convicted him for Naira Abuse after he confessed to the crime.
The former executive chairman, Oluyole local government, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye MDII has urged Moslem Ummah to carry on with the principles and teachings of the holy month of Ramadan which are perseverance, sacrifice, love, peace,kindness, compassion and peaceful co-existence.
In a statement released through his media office, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye congratulated the Moslem for the successful completion of the Ramadan.
“It is only when the principles of the season are sustained beyond Ramadan that the fasting period can be given its true meaning”.
“During Ramadan, which is one of the important pillars of Islam,we are obliged to fast,shun evil actions,speak right and show love to one another”
“I appeal to Nigerians to rise against the odds by keeping prejudices and intolerance aside for the growth and development of the country.
“Above all,we should not draw back in our devotion to Allah,which is the ultimate of our faith”,he added.
The Ex Algon Chairman urged Muslims in the country to use the period of the Eid El Fitri to reflect on their spiritual life as individuals and how they can contribute more meaningfully towards the unity and progress of Nigeria.
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has condemned, in its totality, the alleged assault on the officers of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency, OYRTMA, who were arrested and detained for apprehending an immigration personnel who violated traffic rules.
The Governor expressed this, during his courtesy visits to the victims, Mr Nurudeen Abiola, resident at Binukonu Olunloyo Area and Mr Taiwo Adeagbo, resident at Oke-‘Badan area as well as the Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo State Command on Monday.
Governor Makinde described the incident as an unfortunate one that should never have happened, noting that Oyo State wants to be known for upholding the rule of law and everyone must obey traffic rules, irrespective of their status.
He assured the victims that his government would take necessary action and bring the culprits to book.
“The fact that you work for a federal agency does not mean you are superior. So, I have asked the Honourable Attorney-General to ensure we follow this through.
“We will write to the Immigration authorities and prosecute the people involved, as this is not acceptable in Oyo State,” he added.
Also speaking at the office of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, where he was received by Comptroller Abdulrasheed Ademola, Governor Makinde advocated a better intra and inter-agency cooperation among security agencies in the state.
He equally declared that there must not be a recurrence of such incident, saying: “Oyo State is known for inter- and intra-agency cooperation. So, the incident is very unfortunate.
“I have asked the State’s Comptroller of Immigration that they should cooperate with us. Yes, they said this thing happened at the zonal level. There is an ACG in charge of the zone, who we plan to reach out to.
“I have been assured by the Nigerian Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, and also the zone, that they will cooperate with us to get to the bottom of this matter and ensure that this does not happen again.”
Nollywood actor cum comedian, Babatunde Bernard Tayo, better known as Baba Tee, has expressed different opinions on the DNA test controversy rocking social media.
reports that for some weeks now, Nigerians have been divided over the need for couples to take DNA tests for their children, given recent cases of paternity fraud.
Speaking in a recent interview with TVC, Baba Tee said women should learn to walk out of a marriage they aren’t comfortable with instead of using domestic violence or infidelity as an excuse for paternity fraud.
The movie star noted there is a high rate of paternity fraud in the country due to several issues, including upbringing and lack of sexual satisfaction.
He, however, said he can accept a child that isn’t his if his partner is remorseful for cheating.
He said: “Women can’t use domestic violence or infidelity on the part of their spouses as an excuse for paternity fraud. If a man is not treating you well, walk out of the marriage.
“When it comes to paternity fraud, the woman is always at fault. You can’t shift the blame to the man because men don’t conceive. As a woman, if you know you can’t tolerate your husband’s maltreatment or infidelity, leave the marriage.
Personally, there is nothing I can’t keep for a woman who is good to me. If a woman cheats on me and a child comes out of it and I find out, I will forgive her if she is remorseful. I will take the child as my own.”

The EFCC is set to apprehend hotels, schools, and other establishments that dare to demand payment in dollars from their local customers.
The EFCC warns schools, supermarkets, hotels, and others to stop charging in dollars or foreign currencies within the country.
Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC’s Chairman, shared the news on Monday in the most recent issue of the commission’s monthly e-magazine, EFCC Alert.
Olukoyede warned that legal action would be taken against individuals involved in the dollarization of the economy. He stressed that such behavior would be considered unlawful under Nigerian legislation.
“Schools that charge Nigerians in dollar, supermarkets that trade in dollar, estate developers that sell their property in dollar, hotels that are invoicing in dollar, we are coming after you and we have made arrests in that area.
“Yes, if foreigners are coming in and the only means of transacting is their credit card, and dollar, why not, you will get that.
“But document it properly as against selling things within the system, local economy and you will be using dollar as the medium of exchange, it is illegal.
“Our law does not allow for that. And we have also affected some arrests,”
The Federal Government has announced Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Aishetu Ndayako.
The statement read, “The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, 9th and Wednesday, 10th April, 2024 as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
“The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulates all Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of the fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.
“Tunji-Ojo calls on Muslim Ummmah to imbibe and practise the virtues that entails kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighbourliness, compassion as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
“He urged Nigerians to continue in the spirit of unity in order to improve and achieve peace and oneness in the country.
“The minister wishes all Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-el-Fitr celebration and prays that the peace, blessings, and favour of Allah be with everyone and our great nation.”

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, April 5, 2024, secured the conviction of Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, before Justice Abimbola Awogboro sitting at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos over mutilation of the Naira notes.
He was arraigned on Friday on a four-count charge bordering on mutilation of the Naira notes to the tune of N490, 000, 00 (Four Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira).
Count one reads: “That you, OKUNEYE IDRIS OLANREWAJU, on the 24th day of March, 2024, at Imax Circle Mal, Jakande, Lekki, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with the total sum of N400,000.00 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira) notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
Another count reads: “That you, OKUNEYE IDRIS OLANREWAJU, between July and August, 2023 at Aja Junction, Ikorodu, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with the sum N50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
He pleaded “guilty” to the charges when they were read to him.
In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, S.I. Sulaiman sought to invite the investigating officer, ASE I Bolaji Temitope Aje, to give a brief review of the facts.
Aje narrated to the court that the EFCC received intelligence on some individuals, who are in the habit of mutilating and spraying the Naira notes at social parties and event centres in Lagos.
“Based on the intelligence, the EFCC set up the Special Operations Team to observe and monitor activities of individuals, who are involved in the habit of mutilating the Naira.
“The team visited many event centres and monitored social media pages, where the Naira was being abused.
“During the course of the monitoring, the team came across videos on social media, where the defendant was seen abusing the Naira.
“The team then proceeded to download these videos via our office laptop computers and also went further to copy these videos on compact discs.
“In the light of the foregoing, a letter of invitation was written and forwarded to the defendant.
“The defendant honoured the invitation. When he got to our office, he was voluntarily cautioned. Thereafter, he volunteered to write his statement .
“The defendant was shown a video,where he was spraying money on an artiste called Segun Johnson. The defendant confessed that he was the one in the video. He was also shown a video at IMAX Circle Mall, where he sprayed a total sum of N400,000 at a movie premiere. The defendant also admitted that he was the one in the video and that he carried out the abuse.
“The defendant was also shown two other videos of him spraying the Naira at Aja junction, Ikorodu, and White Stone Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos .
“The defendant admitted to spraying money in these videos. He was, therefore, served with a bail condition.
Sulaiman, thereafter, sought to tender, in evidence, the defendant’s statements and compact disc copies of the video attached to the certificate of identification.
Justice Awogboro admitted and marked the documents as exhibits.
In view of the above, Sulaiman prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.
Justice Awogboro,thereafter, ruled, “upon the admission of guilt by the defendant, testimony of PW1 and following the evidence tendered, the defendant is declared guilty as charged.
Bobrisky, in his plea for mercy told the court, said: “I am a social media influencer, with five million followers; and in all honesty, I was not aware of the law.
“I wish I can be given a second chance to use my platform to educate my followers against the abuse of the Naira. I will do a video on my page and educate people on that. I will not repeat the offence again. I regret my action”, he pleaded.
The defendant’s counsel, Ayo Olumofin, prayed the court for leniency. He appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy, considering his status as a first-time offender as well as his “ sincere remorse for his actions.”
Pleading further, he said, “He will lead the crusade against the abuse of Naira. He is also an employer of people ; and if he goes to jail, the people he employs will suffer. He has cooperated with the EFCC and has not wasted the time of the court. We urge the court to caution the defendant and allow him to go. He has given evidence that he will be useful to the country. We urge you to grant a non-custodial sentencing option of fine.”
After listening to both parties, the Judge deferred judgment in the matter to Tuesday, April 9, 2024 and also ordered that he be remanded in the EFCC custody.
