GNDR Nigeria celebrates World Humanitarian Day, tasks government to prioritize sustainable humanitarian programmes in the country

Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) led by Centre for Disaster Risk and Crisis Reduction (National Focal Point / Regional Advisory Group member) in Nigeria has sent their felicitation message to people around the world, Nigerian Government and all Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s World Humanitarian Day 2022.

According to a statement signed by the Executive Director, for CDRCR and National Focal Point/ RAG Member (GNDR) Mr KOLAWOLE AMUSAT felicitated with Nigerians and equally appreciated Nigerian government in their efforts in providing an enabling environment for the people, most especially, victims of natural disaster and insurgency. “We also appreciate specifically, efforts made by the Government of our dear country, Nigeria towards ensuring survivors of terrorist attacks, banditry, climate impacts, disaster risks and other forms of humanitarian crisis are cared for”

Speaking further, Mr Kolawole however call on government and other relevant bodies to do more in addressing factors hindering humanitarian activities. “However, in the country, we have observed with great concern lapses, gaps and challenges created by insecurity, poor budgetary allocation, inadequate institutional framework, policy somersault, lack of motivation among others hindering effective humanitarian activities, we therefore use the opportunity of this year’s World Humanitarian Day to encourage the government at all levels to look at the following recommendations towards strengthening implementation of sustainable humanitarian programmes against all crises”

Finally, the group recommended to the government ways to sustain and improve humanitarian activities in Nigeria

“1. review and reform as well as equipping our security architecture to a World class standard to be able to handle security challenges hindering the delivery of humanitarian services across vulnerable communities;

2. prioritize and increase budgetary allocations to all Agencies responsible for humanitarian activities in the country, and also monitor the usage of these allocations to reduce wastage and mismanagement by the Agencies;

3. foster synergies among all humanitarian Institutions and Agencies, and ensure localized institutions such as Local Emergency Management Committees, Community Emergency Management Teams, School Emergency Volunteer Clubs are all established to cater for humanitarian needs at the local level;

4. the need for policy coherence cannot be underestimated so as to achieve humanitarian objectives of the government, thus humanitarian policies to be made by government should follow global best practices and implementation should be people-oriented;

5. all Agencies involved in humanitarian activities should ensure their staff and volunteers are encouraged and motivated as ways of appreciating them so that they will be more committed to what they do.


INTERVIEW: My Mission Is To Ensure Our Roads Are Motorable, Says OYSROMA Chairman

The Chairman of Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), Hon. Busoye Ogunlade in an INTERVIEW with ODUDUWA NEWS, revealed some of his agency’s plans towards the rehabilitation of dillapidated roads in Oyo State.

The Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency OYSROMA under the leadership of Hon. Busoye Ogunlade has disclosed that his agency will spend one billion Naira on road maintenance throughout the state.

Mr. Busoye made this known during an Interview session with Oduduwa News, saying that His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde has approved the release of N1bn to the agency and said that upon receiving the fund, it would enhance the scope of operation of the agency.

Speaking futher, he stated that OYSROMA had already embarked on “Operation Zero Potholes” and that it has begun rehabilitation of some of the dilapidated roads.

He said he has been leading his team to fix potholes in some of the roads but major work couldn’t be embarked on during this time of raining season as the full operation would commence immediately the rain subdues.

Among the places they have worked on included Mokola/Dugbe road, the Chairman also expressed his dissatisfaction on the inability of some people to be cautious of the way they dump refuses inside drainages of some major roads which usually hinders free flow of flood that later damages the roads.

Speaking further, he stated that his agency would extend its scope of operation across all the 33 local government areas. He therefore used the ocassion to appeal to to all residents of the state to exercise patience as all efforts are currently geared towards revamping the dillapidated roads across the towns and suburbs.

Mr Busoye while explaining the division of operation in OYSROMA to ODUDUWA NEWS, stated that OYSROMA scope of operation is divided into three phases, saying the first phase is to fix the major potholes across the towns and cities while the second phase is to extend scope to all nooks and crannies in the 33 Local Government councils while the third phase is reaching out to villages and rural areas.

Speaking further to ODUDUWA NEWS on making unprecedented impact to surpass his predecessors, especially during this period of paucity of funds. Mr. Busoye, in his response, stated that despite the paucity of fund, his agency has been utilizing the available resources judiciously to complement the resounding achievements of his Principal, the Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde whose priority according to him is to promote the general welfare of the people of Oyo State.

FIBSU National Parliament Visits Oyo State House of Assembly, Seeks Partnership

Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union, National Parliament under the leadership of Rt. Honorable SOWANDE AYOMIDE BOLUWATIFE(SAB) on Thursday, 18th of August, 2022 visited the Oyo State House of Assembly for sitting observation, and advanced learning of Parliamentary procedures.

On arrival at the Parliament house, sitting of the house was unable to hold due an unstated circumstance by the deputy clerk of the house in which they pleaded to the Union for the inconvenience caused and made it up with the union by making up a mini excursion which was an educative section that comprises more enlightenment on the proceedings of the house and the proper ways of an assembly proceedings.

After the excursion, the Honorable Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Honorable Adebo Ogundoyin pleaded with the union for the inconvenience that may have been caused upon them and promised that they are free to come anytime at a later date. He also promised his support for students in the state in his very best capacity.

Speaking further, Hon. Sowande seeks for the Parliament support for the Union.

Other notable personalities presents were the FIBSU National President Aare Fakolade Aanuoluwapo (Timfak), FOSSU representatives and students from various campuses.

2023: ORE TV Inconjuction With Oduduwa News, Others To Hold Debate For Oyo North Senatorial Candidates

Ore TV, a digital media platform with headquarters based in Saki, Oke-Ogun region of Oyo State is set to hold the first ever Oyo North Senatorial Debate in conjuction with Oduduwa News and other media houses.

According to a communique issued at the end of a meeting held on August 13th, 2022 at Oredegbe Multipurpose Digital Hall, Saki which had in attendance, the Saki Parapo, the Saki West party chairmen of All Progressives Congress(APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party, Social Democratic Party, SDP, Representatives of the Civil Society Organisations, Saki First, Asabari Youths, Aridunnu Family, NUSS HQ, Security Agencies like DSS, FRSC, CID, AMOTEKUN and other notable individuals.

The debate will take place before the end of this year, and all details as regards its schedule will be available to the public as soon as other logistics put in place.

2022 World Youth Day: IPYF Charges CCII, Other Stakeholders to do more for Ibadan Youths

The Youth Wing of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes code named Ibadan Prime Youths Forum (IPYF) has expressed their dissatisfaction on the high rising rate of Unemployment among Ibadan Youths, and called on CCII, other stakeholder in Ibadan to salvage the situation.

The Youth Wing under the leadership of Dr. Oluwatunmise Adeagbo made the call in their July monthly meeting held on the 17th of July 2022 at Ibadan House, Oke-Aremo within Ibadan Metropolis.

Speaking at the meeting, members accused some Ibadan based government establishment of sidelining Indigenes of the city who are qualified for employment whenever there’s opportunity for employment.
According to the Forum, there are many Indigenes and Youths of the city working as part time and casual workers in some of these Establishment with all requirements to becoming a full time staff but will not be considered whenever there’s opportunity for recruitment of full staff.

Also, the forum explicitly stated that they their request is based on merit and not on omo – onilu or entitlement mentality syndrome, saying that their are more than enough Ibadan sons and daughters qualified both on academic standing and skills.

The Forum finally call on the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes to be more pro-active on the issue of Unemployment among Ibadan Youths and should be there at all time whenever their support is needed.

Oyo Youth Award: Oyo State Government to Unveil Nominees August 12th

As part of lined-up preparations for International Youth Week, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Engr. ‘Seun Fakorede hosted members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Oyo State Chapter to a meeting as regards the forthcoming programme organised by the Youth Council, which is slated for August 8th to 14th. The programme is scheduled to hold at American Corner with the theme, “Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a world for ages.”

The representatives of the NYCN, Oyo State Chapter, were led into the meeting by the Chapter’s Chairman, Comrade AbdulQuadri Abdulsalam and the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Comrade S. O. Azeez. The Executive Secretary, Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Alhaja Agboola, Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Faith, Reverend Femi Ibikunle were also on ground during the cause of the meeting.

The members of the Youth Council commend the State government for the massive investment in the youths population while acknowledging the recent attempt at recognising illustrious youths of the State who are doing well in their respective fields as a genuine effort in the right direction.

The Commissioner, while reacting, said that “the Oyo State youth award is to recognise those doing exceedingly well” and that the ” awardees would be unveiled on the 12th of August.”

The members of the NYCN charged the State government not to relent in unveiling and supporting youth-oriented programmes.

Fakorede Takes Mother and Child Advocacy to Ibarapa; Donates Mother and Child Kits to Nursing Mothers

Since 2019 till date Chioma Fakorede (née Nwosu) has continued to raise awareness towards mental health through her NGO, Olamma Cares Foundation.

In commemoration of her birthday this year Chioma visited nursing mothers in Idere and Igboora communities of Ibarapa Central Local Government Oyo State to distribute Mother and Child Care Kits.

Chioma who gave birth to a child four months ago says she understands the joy of motherhood but explains that people barely talk about the struggles mothers face when nursing a new born. She says that statistics show that new mums are at risk of Post Partum Depression/Anxiety/Psychosis. Chioma explained that financial commitment and unavoidable stress of having a child can trigger symptoms.

“Every year for my birthday (since 2019), I host a fundraiser to raise awareness towards Mental Health and give back to my community.

As a new Mum I have had my fair share of the journey and quite blessed to be able to go through it. However, one can only imagine the fate of new Mums in underserved communities who do not have the financial capacity and access to help or support as they navigate this new role.”

The beneficiaries in Idere Primary Health Care Centre and Igboora Primary Health Care Center were overjoyed to be receiving such huge and kind gesture from a fellow woman who understands their plight. They danced, sang and prayed upon receiving their gifts.

Chioma Fakorede who went in company of her husband Engr. Seun Fakorede, MNSE, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Oyo State says; “I am grateful to all the donors who contributed in making sure that this charity drive was a success. I am extremely elated knowing that these mothers are happy and some load has been lifted off their shoulders.”

Breaking: One Feared Dead As Hausa, Yoruba Clash In Ibadan

Activities in Ringroad/ Mobil axis of Ibadan, Oyo State Capital was put to an hold in the early hours of Sunday, July 24, 2022 as clash occurred between the Yoruba and Okada riders who were of Hausa tribe.

Our correspondent learnt that a disagreement ensued between the Yorubas and Hausas which led to the severe matchete of a Yoruba man and in retaliation, the Yoruba people mobilized themselves and attacked them.

It was learnt that during the fight, many shops were razed, people were seen scampering for safety while the commercial activities were paralyzed.

JFO DISTRIBUTES THREE TRUCKLOADS OF FERTILIZERS TO FARMERS

Farmers in Atisbo, Saki East and Saki West, Oyo State, yesterday got a major support to boost their productivity with the receipt of three truckloads of modern fertilizers from Honourable Jacob Funmi Ogunmola(JFO), the candidate of Accord Party for House of Representative in the forthcoming general election.

Presenting the items to the farmers in a brief ceremony held in Saki, Hon Jacob Ogunmola said the gesture was aimed at addressing food insecurity and eradicate poverty in the area.

“What we are doing today is not because of politics. I have been helping my people in various ways for over fifteen years now.

“Knowing well that majority of my people are farmers, and we are in farming season, I feel the vital thing to do is to support them with modern fertilizer.

“This will boost farming activities and ensure high yield and profit for farmers that will help in eradication of poverty,” he said.

Honourable Jacob Ogunmola promised to also support the people in the areas of education, human development and health care in the coming months.

The candidate of the Accord Party who assured more democratic dividends for his people if elected adding that he had so far awarded 200 students with scholarship Schooling at different tertiary Institutions.

He urged the people to support and vote him as their representative in the lower chamber come 2023.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Salaudeen Adeniyi commended Honorable Jacob Ogunmola for the giant stride in providing Fertilizer for them at this critical time.

Missing Person: Jacob Olalere’s Family, Colleagues Seeks Help

The Family, Friends and Colleagues of Jacob Olalere have taken to social media the search of their mission son and colleague.

According to Information made available to Oduduwa News, Jacob was last seen on Friday, 15th of July 2022, around 10pm, the night preceding the Osun State Election in Osogbo, where he currently live and work.

Oduduwanews further learnt that a search team comprising of Staff of Kemath (The surveying firm where Jacob works), some members of YSN (Young Surveyors Network) in Osogbo, Osun State, colleagues of Jacob from school and members of JCI FSSOyo.

Among other efforts that has been made includes designed posters, printed and pasted in strategic locations around Osogbo Town and all the places he had been earlier spotted. These posters carry Jacob’s Photo, his name and contact numbers of his Boss and his father.

The search team whereby appeal to the public to help them in their search of their missing person, and contact the numbers on the posters posted on social media or locations in Osogbo or the nearest police station.
