The Federal Government has announced Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Aishetu Ndayako.
The statement read, “The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, 9th and Wednesday, 10th April, 2024 as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
“The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulates all Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of the fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.
“Tunji-Ojo calls on Muslim Ummmah to imbibe and practise the virtues that entails kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighbourliness, compassion as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
“He urged Nigerians to continue in the spirit of unity in order to improve and achieve peace and oneness in the country.
“The minister wishes all Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-el-Fitr celebration and prays that the peace, blessings, and favour of Allah be with everyone and our great nation.”
The President General , Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Sulaiman Ajeniyi Ajewole led a team to Ijebu Ososa on Thursday 04 April, 2024 to celebrate the Owner and Founder of the Rites Foods, makers of Bigi Products, Sosa Products, and Founder of Sulaiman College of Education, Ososa, Alhaji Chief Dr. Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa OFR, Chancellor Summit University Offa on his 79 birthday ceremony and installation as the Asiwaju of Ijebuland.
On his congratulatory remarks, the President General, Chief Sulaiman Ajeniyi Ajewole prayed for the celebrant for a healthy longevity and massive wellness to continue to serve humanity in general.
The Chairman, 2024 Ibadan Cultural Festival Planning Committee, Balogun Gaphar Babatunde Ojetola commended Dr. Adegunwa for his remarkable support and sponsorship of the Business Luncheon program during the 2022 Ibadan Cultural Festival celebration. Ojetola recalled the huge support that was received from the Rites Foods towards the 2022 Ibadan Cultural Festival programs. It was on this remark that the CCII considered it necessary to felicitate with the celebrant on his birthday and on his installation as the Asiwaju of Ijebuland. He also prayed for a healthy longevity for the celebrant.
In his response, Chief Dr. Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa welcomed his august visitors to Ososaland and his palatial residence with hearty prayers in appreciation of the visit. He promised to support this year’s Ibadan Cultural Festival programs as much as possible.

Sunday March 31st, 2024 at Yemetu Ibadan, the President General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes Chief Sulaiman Ajeniyi Ajewole and all his Executive Council led the cream de la cream of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes to receive the honour bestowed on one of them, Balogun Gaphar Babatunde Ojetola as the Jagunmolu Adini, Aimot Rawatib and Yemetu Muslim Community N2, N4 and N5 at an epoch making event at the playing field of the Yemetu Police Barracks, Ibadan.
Other important dignitaries at the event were the Senator representing Oyo South, Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, the President of Ibadanland Mogajis, Alhaji Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, Mogaji Asiwaju Nurudeen Akinade who also represent the Ilaji Farms and Resorts Chief Executive, Engr. Preparations are now in top gear for Kingsley Spring College, Shagari Boluwaji, Ibadan first ever Inter-House Sports Competition tagged Spring Athletics ’24. The event which will be held on Thursday, April 4th 2024 @ Lekan Salami Stadium,Adamasingba is billed to attract top officials and accomplished personalities from all over Nigeria.
This year’s inter-house sports competition is particularly special as it coincides with the unveiling of the school’s other activities.
According to the chairman of the inter house sport committee,Mr Peter Emmanuel said the activities provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and learn important life skills, and they foster a sense of unity and camaraderie within the school community.
“Sport is meant to teach an individual certain valuable lessons like leadership, communication, team spirit, discipline, courage and many other life skills required for a successful life” he said.
The students have been grouped according to their houses (Yellow (Emmanuel House), Green (Alarape House), Blue (Shittu House) and Purple (Omotayo House).
These activities include discuss, high jump, long jump, match past,Sack race and other track and field events . The winner of the Inter-house trophy is the House that has the most points at the end of the competition.

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Friday, March 15, 2024 secured the conviction and sentencing of one Bose Lateef before Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, for an offence bordering on money racketeering.
She was arraigned by the EFCC on a one- count charge bordering on Naira Racketeering under Section 21(4) of the CBN Act.
The count reads: “That you, BOSE LATEEF on or about the 16 day of February, 2024 al Eko Club, Surulere, in Lages within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court hawked the sum of N269,000.00 (Two Hundred and Sixty Nine Thousand Naira), in N500 (Five Hundred Naira) denominations, issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria and thereby committed an offence contrary lo 21(4) and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act. 2007.”
She pleaded “guilty” to the charge preferred against her.
Following her guilty plea, counsel to the EFCC, A.S. Wara called on Olagunjo Abdulmalik, an operative of the EFCC, to review the facts of the case.
Abdulmalik told the court that the defendant was arrested on February 15, 2024 while hawking Naira notes at Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos, following credible intelligence received by the Commission.
Speaking further, he said the sum of N507,500.00 (Five Hundred and Seven Thousand, Five hundred Naira) was recovered from her at the point of arrest.
“Upon her arrest by operatives, she was duly cautioned and the defendant volunteered her statement, in which she confessed that she was into money racketeering and hawking of Naira notes,” he said.
Wara, thereafter, sought to tender, in evidence, the defendant’s statements, and the N507,500.00 (Five Hundred and Seven Thousand, Five hundred Naira) recovered.
Justice Dipeolu admitted and marked them as exhibits against her.
Thereafter, the trial judge declared her guilty as charged.
Defence counsel, Kolapo Gbadamosi, prayed the court for leniency.
“The money found in her possession was a loan she took from a cooperative society,” he said.
He prayed the court to “please give her the money so she can return to the owner and forgive her as she is a first-time offender and is sorry for her actions”.
Justice Dipeolu sentenced her to one month imprisonment to commence from the day of her arrest by the EFCC. The court also ordered the sum of N507,500 cash should be returned to her.
The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes under the leadership of Chief Barr. Sulaiman Ajeniyi Ajewole on Friday, 16th March, 2024 organised lying in state ceremony as part of the burial rites for the departed Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Dr. Mohood Olalekan Balogun Alli Okunmade II at the ancient Mapo hall.
The function was attended by the Olubadan-in-council led by the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, Mogajis & Baales of Ibadanland, Indigenes& residents of Ibadanland.
Following the lying in state was torrent of glowing tributes by Ibadan sos and daughters while the late monarch was finally buried at Ali-iwo, his ancestral home. The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Bayo Lawal led government officials to the venue while the Chief Imam of Ibadanland led the islamic rite.
Following the death of Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun, the late Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who is the current Balogun of Ibadanland, who is the head of the military line of the Olubadan system, is set to become the next Olubadan of Ibadan.
Tradition has it that from today, palace drummers and chanters would move from Alli-Iwo to the Ita Baale palace of Ọba Olakulehin, heralding his symbolic ascension to the throne.
It was reported that Oba Dr Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, joined his ancestors late Thursday evening at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan as announced by the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
The late Olubadan and incoming Olubadan are from the same Ibadan North East Local Government of Oyo State.
Olakulehin’s son, Sunbo Owolabi, was commissioner for water resources during the administration of late former governor Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi.
According to tradition, the next in line to Olakulehin is Sen. Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and senator, who heads the civil line as Otun Olubadan of Ibadan.
The death of Oba Balogun and the assumption of office by another Olubadan will cause promotion in the Olubadan system, especially in the Balogun line where the new Olubadan will emerge.
A drummer identified as Kunle Ayanlawo who has worked with Fuji maestro K1 De Ultimate in an interview speaks about his experience with the singer after working with him for 32 years.
In the interview, Kunle Ayanlawo stressed that musicians working for K1 De Ultimate are treated as slaves.
Shedding more light, drummer Kunle Ayanlowo utters that while he working with K1 De Ultimate, all the workers would be given their passports and they will collect it back at the Murtala airport in Lagos.
He added that before he left K1 De Ultimate after working with him between 1990 – 2022, he had 3 passports and they collected them from him.
The drummer added that there was no how any worker would leave K1 De Ultimate work without returning again except the person is dead.
Narrating one of his ordeals, the drummer noted that there was a time he was sick battling a vigorous cancer and the driver took him to the hospital to see a doctor.
He claimed that while they were on their way, K1 De Ultimate met them on their way and and he told the driver to turn back to the house.
He claimed that till date he is still nursing the cancer while adding that if anything happens to him , K1 De Ultimate should be held responsible.
The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes under the leadership of Chief Barrister Niyi Ajewole has described the passage of the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Dr. Mohood Olalekan Balogun as a great lost to the people of the ancient city.
According to the council, Kabiesi’s two years was purposeful, transformative most especially in the advancement of Ibadan land.

Born on October 18, 1942, in the hallowed precincts of Ali-Iwo compound, Oba Senator Balogun’s ascent to the throne of the Olubadan of Ibadanland marked the dawn of a new era filled with promise and hope. His brief yet illustrious reign was characterized by unwavering dedication to the welfare and progress of his people.

The people of Ibadan land has been thrown into a moment of grief following the announcement of the passage of the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan Iand, Oba Dr. Mohood Olalekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.
The Kabiesi’s death was announced by the State Governor, Governor Oluseyi Makinde on Thursday, 14th March 2024, and to be buried on Friday, 25th March 2024 by 4pm according to the family.
The governor made this announcement in a statement on Thursday night, stating that Olubadan Balogun, joined his ancestors late Thursday evening at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
Governor Makinde described Oba Dr. Balogun as an epitome of royal excellence and a great achiever, who made great marks on Ibadanland in just a little over two years of his reign.
He expressed his condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council and the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State, praying to God to grant repose to the soul of the deceased monarch.
He said: “With total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing unto glory of our father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“A mighty Iroko has fallen; Oba Dr. Balogun has joined the ancestors.
“In Kabiyesi, Ibadanland had a cosmopolitan and well-experienced Olubadan, who made indelible marks on the sands of history and achieved greatly within a short while.
“On behalf of the Government and good People of Oyo State, I condole with the immediate family of the Oba Dr. Balogun, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council and the people of Ibadanland.
“It is my prayer that God grants repose to the soul of our late monarch.”
