Six suspected members of the dreaded Eiye Confraternity that had overtime held Sagamu in Ogun State restive, have been nabbed.
The group, said to have been terrorizing the area with their characteristic incessant clashes, leading to the death of no fewer than four persons since the beginning of this year, were rounded up last week during a nocturnal meeting by the Ogun State Anti-cultist Unit of the police.
Stating this in a press release, the police spokesman (PPRO) in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin-led Anti-cultist team acted on a credible information that the group had converged at a spot on Ayepe-Odogbolu Road for another round of onslaught, and swooped on them, where the six suspects were apprehended.
Oyeyemi gave the identities of the suspects as Rafiu Osokoya, (a.k.a Osama); Azeez Abiola (a k.a Scofield); Ogunsanwo Waheed (a.k.a 50cent); Toheeb Ayodele (a.k.a Emir); Kolawole Adegbenro and Azeez Taiwo.
According to him, “On interrogation, the suspects confessed being members of the dreaded Eiye cult group, and have been unleashing terror in Sagamu since the beginning of this year”.
“They confessed to the killing of one Animashaun in Sagamu and another person, simply identified as Ekwe, in Sabo area, also in Sagamu”, the PPRO said.
The police spokesman stated further that in their confessions, the suspects owned up to the effect that their group was responsible for the death of one Adigun and Elewure, both killed at Isote area of Sagamu early this year, during one of their nefarious operations.
Meanwhile, according to him, the state Commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, commended the team for a job well done, and had ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang.
“The CP also directed that the arrested suspects be arraigned in court as soon as possible”, the statement added.
