Oyo State Inaugurates Environmental Health Officers Disciplinary Committee, Says DC Will Uphold Professional Ethics Among Officers

The Elders Forum of Environmental Health Officers of Nigeria in collaboration with the Oyo State Chapter of the association headed by Sanitarian Adegoke Tijani on Monday, 10th February 2025 Inaugurated the Disciplinary Committee for the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Oyo State branch.

The Committee consists of 7 members, 6 of which are Rtd Senior Health Officers up to the rank of Heads of Local Government Administration & Director with the current President of the Environmental Health Officers as the 7th person.

The Inauguration which was held at the Local Government Service Commission Staff Training School complex had in attendance the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Mojeed Mogbonjubola and his colleague from the Ministry of Education, Prof. Abdulwaheed Adelabu who was ably represented.

It should be on record that with this Environmental Disciplinary Committee, Oyo State remains the only state throughout Nigeria with such a committee, setting the pace for others to follow.

While speaking with Journalists, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Mogbonjubola stated that Oyo State has once again demonstrated leadership by taking the lead in the resuscitation and Inauguration of the committee which will bring professionalism to the work of Environmental Health Officers. “It is  only in Oyo State that we have this committee and it will bring value to all Environmental Health Officers in the State, as we expect the best from them”

When asked about the preparedness of the State Government as we await the raining season, the Commissioner Stated that the State Government cleared some waterways, and drainages late last year, and at the same time expanded some bridges. He assured the public that the same activities will be carried out before the commencement of rain to avert disaster, he further admonished the general public to comply with Environmental laws, by not dumping refuse on the median, waterways and other unauthorized places that can lead to environmental disasters.

The Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, Sanitarian Akintomide Akinpelu said that the committee is not set up to witch-hunt any officer, but instead to guidance and correct where necessary.
“You know the syndrome of get rich quickly among our youthful population, particularly in Nigeria, though it’s all over the world, which is not good for our profession, so this committee is set up to sanitize our profession to serve as a shining example for other profession. We will do our job with integrity and ensure that there’s no miscarriage of justice, as our main goal is to bring back the lost glory of this profession”

He further stated that the society at large is looking up to Environmental Health Officers when it comes to Environmental Health, and as such there’s is need for the Officers to deliver optimally, as the Disciplinary Committee will be a guiding light for officers.

The President of the Oyo State Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Oyo State branch, Sanitarian Adegoke Tijani who’s the only serving officer in active service among the Disciplinary Committee stated that the Committee became necessary so as to uphold sanity and discipline within the profession.
“It’s not as if we have officers who are indiscipline, but the purpose of the law is to guide and this committee will be responsible for upholding discipline and promoting professional ethics among our officers”

A Life of Devotion and Service: Celebrating UI’s Dr. Fadlu-r-Rahaman Kehinde Tijani at 65 ~ Tunji Oladejo

I join the Quareeb Islamic Society in Nigeria and the entire Muslim community in celebrating a remarkable individual, Dr. Fadlu-r-Rahaman Kehinde Tijani, as he marks his 65th birthday. As the National Missioner of Quareeb Islamic Society, Dr. Tijani has dedicated his life to the service of Allah and humanity, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals and communities. An alumnus of the Universities of Ilorin and Ibadan (UI), we belong to the UI 1994 M.A. Communication and Language Arts Class.

Dr. Tijani’s journey is a testament to his unwavering commitment to his faith and his passion for spreading the message of Islam. Through his tireless efforts, he has inspired a generation of Muslims to deepen their understanding of their faith and to live according to its principles. His leadership has been instrumental in promoting Islamic values, fostering unity, and promoting peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths.

As a scholar and educationist, Dr. Tijani has made significant contributions to Islamic education and research. His writings and teachings have shed light on various aspects of Islam, providing guidance and insight to those seeking to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the faith.

Oyo Govt. to Inaugurate National Health Fellows’ Committee On Monday

……. As the selection interview kicks off

The Oyo state Government, through the State Ministry of Health, will on Monday inaugurate the State-level National Health Fellows’ Program (NHFP) committee. The National Health Fellows’ Program is one of the priorities of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) initiative of the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria aimed at transforming the Nigerian healthcare sector at the National and Subnational level. One of the goals of the National Health Fellows’ Program is to build young, vibrant health sector professional that will assist in improving the Health sector using the SWAp initiatives.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi in a media chat explains that the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) is a healthcare transformation initiative of the State and Federal Government of Nigeria, a bold vision made to revolutionize healthcare in the country and across states. She reiterated that the initiative came in response to the alarming state of health in Nigeria, where the country’s maternal mortality indices remain very high, among the highest in the world. The SWAp initiative is expected to make a significant shift toward a more coordinated and efficient healthcare system in Oyo state.According to the State SWAp Coordinator, who is also the Secretary of the State Committee on the National Health Fellows’ Program, Dr Oluwatunmise Adeagbo, He said that the shortlisting of National Health Fellows’ Program (NHFP) applicants is currently in the second stage, and the State based screening/selection interview sessions of the shortlisted candidates will commence next week and it’s to be completed on or before Friday 14th February 2025.

Dr. Adeagbo said ” At least a minimum of 30 candidates will be interviewed each day. The interview session is expected to commence each day by 8.30 am and end by 5.00pm. The list of the successful participants to be interviewed will be made available to the public soon”.” Also, the shortlisted Candidates for the interview are required to provide a valid means of identification such as NIN, International Passport, Driver’s license during the interview”. Dr. Adeagbo said.He added that more information on the National Health Fellows Program (NHFP) in Oyo State, and other SWAp Health related opportunities for the good citizens of Oyo State can be seen on the various social media handles for the State SWAp Coordination Office. Iyalode Ibadan-in Council Pays Condolence Visit to Governor Makinde over Brother’s Death

A delegation representing the Iyalode of Ibadanland, Chief (Mrs.) Theresa Oyekanmi, paid a condolence visit to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, following the passing of his beloved brother. The visit, which took place at the Governor’s residence, was a solemn moment of support and solidarity from the traditional women leadership of Ibadanland.

Speaking on behalf of Chief (Mrs)Theresa Oyekanmi the Secretary of Iyalode of Ibadanland Chiefs, Oloye (Dr) Ayo Monsurat Alaga
expressed deep sympathies to Governor Makinde and his family, acknowledging the painful loss and offering prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul. They also extended heartfelt wishes for strength and divine comfort to the governor and his family during this difficult time.

The delegation emphasized the Iyalode’s respect and admiration for Governor Makinde’s leadership, noting that the traditional institution stands firmly with him, not only in times of progress but also in moments of grief. They assured the Governor of their continued prayers and support.

In response, Governor Makinde appreciated the visit and thanked Chief (Mrs.) Theresa Oyekanmi and her representatives for their show of concern and solidarity. He acknowledged the role of the Iyalode of Ibadanland in maintaining unity and culture within the community and expressed gratitude for their prayers and encouragement.

The visit further reinforced the strong bond between the traditional leadership and the state government, highlighting the importance of communal support in times of loss.

Tribute to Hon. Temilola Adibi: A Pillar of Support and a True Leader

On behalf of all members of the JDS Consolidated Groups (Oyodotun), I, Chief Mrs. Abegbo Lawal, offer this heartfelt tribute to a remarkable leader and devoted ally, Hon. Temilola Adibi. His passing on January 21, 2025, is a profound loss to Oyo State and all who were privileged to know him.

Hon. Temilola Adibi, hailing from Ogbomoso, was not only a distinguished one-time Federal Honourable and Local Government Chairman but also a close confidant and trusted ally of Engineer Jubril Dotun Sanusi (JDS). As a chief coordinator and the unifier of all JDS groups across Oyo State, Hon. Adibi played a pivotal role in rallying support and fostering unity within the movement to achieve a better future for the state.

He was a man of integrity, commitment, and unshakable loyalty. His passion for progress was evident in every step he took to advance the vision of JDS for Oyo State. Even in his final days, Hon. Adibi remained dedicated to the cause, selflessly contributing his time, energy, and wisdom toward ensuring the success of the 2027 gubernatorial campaign.

Beyond his political achievements, Hon. Temilola Adibi was a man of compassion and unwavering dedication to humanity. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, the bridges he built, and the progress he inspired.
