ODUDUWA NEWS has just gathered that residents and traders at Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), on Monday night, were reported to have scampered to safety yesterday as hoodlums clashed together, leaving on dead while severals were injured.
It was gathered that the crisis was an offshoot of last weekend’s All Progressives Congress (APC) local council primaries in the area.
Shops were seen still under lock while some schools were closed down since yesterday. A school administrator in one of the affected schools said hoodlums had made the environment tense for students in the area.
“We have been living in fear since Saturday. Hoodlums fight every day and we cannot even run the school smoothly. We all live in fear here, even the students are not safe to be in school for a long time because anything can happen.”
While giving account of what happened, a trader in the area, who gave her name simply as Sikirat, said that about 8.00p.m. a man in his 20s was killed by hoodlums who attacked a rival group.
She said the victim was asked not to go out but sneaked out of the house before a stray bullet hit him.
“I really do not know what started the fight, but what I know is that the moment the fight broke out, everyone scampered to safety while the deceased was asked to stay indoors. We did not really know how he got out and died. Until his death, he was a decent gentle boy.”
Another trader, identified as Emeka, stated that business in the area had become unsafe for two days now due to nefarious activities of hoodlums who robbed individuals of private belongings.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, yesterday, said it saved residents of Imota area of the state from witnessing what would have been a major disaster as it confined the fire that gutted Malo Petrol Station, Imota, to the premises of the station.
Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, explained that the agency received a distress call that the station, on the Ikorodu-Epe Expressway, Imota LCDA, Ikorodu, was in flames and immediately two fire stations were mobilised to douse the raging fire.
On arrival at the scene, according to her, it was discovered that a petroleum tanker servicing the petrol station caught fire, which subsequently extended to the whole station.
The director further stated that the fire was caused by an electrical fault which developed while the tanker, laden with 45,000 litres of fuel, was discharging its content into an underground tank before the fire started.
Adeseye explained that efforts of the Federal Fire Service and Nigerian Police Force helped in putting out the fire.
