A middle-aged man identified as Tunde was allegedly shot dead by his friend with a Dane gun while testing the efficacy of a spiritual bulletproof charm capable of repelling bullets in Ondo, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo state.
It was gathered that the 27-year-old son of a traditionalist was shot by his friend around 6:30 p.m. at Laoso camp while trying to confirm the efficacy of the charm.
A source said the friend of the deceased who fired the gunshot in order to determine the potency of the charmed ran away from the scene of the incident after realising that Tunde had died.
According to him, the deceased and his friend drank a concoction prepared for them by a native doctor who assured them that the charm was bullet-repelling and will prevent the bullet from killing them.
Tunde allegedly decided to test the effectiveness of the charms by requesting his friend to shoot him first as a test.
The source said as soon as Tunde’s friend fired the Dane gun, Tunde immediately collapsed and lost his life, after which he was rushed to a clinic at the camp, where he was confirmed dead, and the incident was reported at the Fagun Police station in Ondo town.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased and his friend as cultists.
The PPRO said, “On the 01/08/2023 at Laosho camp via Laje, one Tunde Akinmoyewa, male, an ex-convict who is also a cultist while testing a locally made gun believed to be newly procured was accidentally shot by one of his boys, named Bode.
