The Oyo State Government has forwarded a bill to rename Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH as Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho to Oyo State House of Assembly. The bill which was said to rename the ivory tower has its core objective of converting the institution to fully fledge conventional school as against the mandate of being run as technology school which was earlier established on.
The decision to rename the institution was reached today at the State Executive Council meeting.
The following were also approved by the Oyo State Executive Council today:
- A bill to amend the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso Law to reflect the proposed change of the name of the institution to Ladoke Akintola University (LAU).
- The bill will also amend its objectives so that the university can offer courses in arts and humanities as approved by the National Universities Commission.
- Implementation of the Start Them Early Program in 6 additional schools drawn from the 14 federal constituencies.
- The sum of $1,700,000 was approved for this project which is a collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
