IEGS Old Students’ Alumni Commissions Newly Renovated School Library

The 1980 set of Old Students’ Association of Igbo-Elerin Grammar School, Ibadan has today commissioned a newly renovated library block in the school.

The commissioning which took place at the school premises had some notable old students, the principal among other staff members of the school in attendance.

In his words, the Chairman of the Alumni body 1980 set, Alhaji Remi Owolabi while speaking admonished all stakeholders to ensure that all hands are on deck towards the infrastructural development of the school. Owolabi was quoted as saying “we had the report of the extent of dilapidation that attended our Alma Mater and sent words to our members, just like in the time of Nehemiah of the Bible, that we have to do something about the broken wall”.

The Chairman further spoke on the reason why they settled for the renovation of the school library amidst several demands, “the selection of this project (renovation of the library) as our first area of intervention as against other options resulted from series of reports of visitation panel that we sent to the school. We settled for library renovation in view of its overwhelming importance in the development of human mind”, said Owolabi.

The school principal, Mrs. Ogundare Funmilola Janet while speaking appreciated the old students for giving back to their root and equally tasked them on more infrastructural projects in the school.

The National President of the Old Students’ Association, Revd. D. O. Makinde appreciated the 1980 set for deeming it fit to give back to their Alma Mater. He however prayed that God would continue to enrich them to be able to do more for the school.

The old students took a cross section pictures and had a lunch in commemoration of the library renovation project.

Present, were the National President of the Old Students’ Association, Revd. D. O. Makinde, Venerable M. O. Popoola, Principal of the school, Mrs. Ogundare Funmilola Janet, Mr. Hamid Tunde, Mr. Bayo Akintunde among other old students.
