The suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has been prevailed on to resign his appointment in exchange for his freedom.
According to sources, the embattled Chairman of the EFCC has been given an option to resign voluntarily to regain his freedom.
Recall, the ex-EFCC Boss was suspended in June and subsequently invited by the Department of State Security Services DSS on the order of President Tinubu and has since spent more than three months in detention without having his days in Court.
The illegal detention of the young man has made human right lawyers and activists to demand for his release or he should be charged to Court if there is any allegation leveled against him.
The new twist on the demand for his resignation has raised a lot of dust in some quarters as opinion molders continue to hinge his detention on political vendetta.
The suspension and detention of Bawa said to have been connected with his role in the last Naira Redesign policy. It was said that Bawa raised a memo to ex-CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele to redesign Naira to curb corruption, vote buying and money laundering. The duo has since been kept under detention since June this year as against the extant law.
The sources also revealed that the people at the Presidency currently under EFCC radar and are closed associates of President Tinubu are behind the plot to edge the young man out and have also been in talks with the President on who will be a replacement should Bawa finally agrees to resign.
If this sails through, Mr President will now appoint a new chairman for the anti-graft agency together with that of its sister agency; the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC.
