VACANCIES FOR THE POSITIONS OF RECTOR, REGISTRAR, POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN AND BURSAR FOR ADESEUN OGUNDOYIN POLYTECHNIC, ERUWA, OYO STATE

ADESEUN OGUNDOYIN POLYTECHNIC, ERUWA (AOPE), previously a satellite Campus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan since 1981, became an autonomous institution in 2014. It runs 35 recognized National and Higher National Diploma (ND and HND) programmes in 20 Academic Departments and Four (04) Directorates spread across Four (04) Faculties.

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant posts of RECTOR, REGISTRAR, POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN AND BURSAR of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa (AOPE), Oyo State.

RECTOR
The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic and he/she exercises authority over both staff and students. The Rector is a member of the Governing Council and the Chairman of Academic Board, Congregation and Appointments and Promotions Committee. Subject to the general control and superintendence of the Governing Council, he/she is also responsible for discipline in the Polytechnic. In addition to proven management and leadership experience, the person desiring to be the Rector of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic must have a demonstrable passion for academic endeavours and be credible to the academic community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Interested candidates for the post should possess the following qualifications:
Must be a Chief Lecturer or equivalent with doctorate degree in any of the following disciplines: Agriculture, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Technology, Natural Sciences, and Management Sciences with at least Eighteen (18) years graduate/professional and administrative experience, not less than five of which must be at the level of Chief Lecturer in a Polytechnic or an institution of comparable status. Additional qualification (s) will be added advantage.

In addition, the candidate must:
ii. have demonstrable ability to offer academic and administrative leadership as well as the ability to effectively discharge the duties and responsibilities of the office of the Rector;
iii. show evidence of scholarly publications in reputable national and international peer-reviewed journals;
iv. belong to relevant professional body / bodies in Nigeria;
v. be capable of developing initiative and vision with the capacity to sustain the accelerated pace of development of the Polytechnic even under financial and other challenging constraints;
vi. be a fair-minded and dynamic individual with an impeccable reputation;
vii. be a person who will not pursue racial, ethnic, gender, political, religious or other sectional interests;
viii. be proficient in the use of Information and Communication Technologies;

THE REGISTRAR
The Registrar is a Principal Officer and Administrative Officer of the Polytechnic and Secretary to the Governing Council, Academic Board, Congregation, Convocation and other Statutory Committees that may be put in place. He/she is responsible to the Rector for the day-today administration of the Polytechnic.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: The prospective candidate is expected to possess the following academic and professional qualifications and personal qualities:
i. A good honours degree with a minimum of Second Class Honours from a recognized University. Master’s degree will be an added advantage
ii. Not below the rank of a Deputy Registrar in a higher education institution with at least Seventeen (17) years post-qualification cognate experience at least 12 of which must be in the Registry of a higher education institution,
Excellent managerial, interpersonal communication, organizational and planning skills,
iv. Belong to relevant professional body/bodies in Nigeria,
v. The candidate must be a person of proven integrity, intellectually sound, professionally skillful, and knowledgeable in the management of the Nigerian Higher Education system,
vi. The candidate must be a person who will not exhibit racial, ethnic, political, religious or other sectional sentiments in the discharge of his/her duties,
vii. Must be proficient in the use of Information and Communication Technologies;

POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN
Job Description
The Polytechnic Librarian is a Principal Officer of the Polytechnic and reports to the Rector for the day-to-day administration of the Polytechnic Library and coordination of Library services. He/she is the administrative and academic Head of the Library.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Prospective candidates for the post of the Polytechnic Librarian must
be a serving Deputy Librarian or its equivalent with good Honours and Master’s Degrees in Library Science/Library and Information Science. Possession of a Doctorate Degree in Library Science/Library and Information Science or related disciplines will be an added advantage;
ii. have at least 17 years post-qualification cognate experience, preferably in a tertiary institution;
iii. have a good number of scholarly publications in reputable peer-reviewed local and international journals;
iv. be proficient in the use of Information and Communication Technologies in particular Library Management Software (LMS) and automation;
v. possess excellent managerial, interpersonal communication, organizational and planning skills
vi. be registered with the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN);

THE BURSAR
The Bursar is a Principal Officer of the Polytechnic. He/she is the Chief Financial Officer of the Polytechnic and responsible to the Rector for the day-to-day administration and control of the Financial Affairs of the Polytechnic.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
The Candidate for the position of Bursar must
i. be a holder of a good honours degree in Accounting from a recognized Higher Education institution, with at least 17 years post qualification cognate experience or Master’s Degree with at least 15 years accounting experience preferably in a Higher Education institution;
ii. be a serving Chief Accountant in a Polytechnic or similar cognate institution;
iii. resourceful and conversant with current Federal/State Government Financial Rules and Regulations;
iv. be a member of any of the nationally-recognized accounting bodies: ICAN, ANAN, ACCA or any recognized equivalent;
v. be honest, accountable, transparent and capable of providing sound leadership in financial management and administration with high sense of integrity;
vi. be proficient in the use of Information and Communication Technologies in relation to financial management;

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT AND CONDITION OF SERVICE
i. The appointment (Rector, Registrar, Polytechnic Librarian and Bursar) is for a single non-renewable term of Five (5) years.
The salary and other conditions of service attached to the posts are as applicable in similar or other Tertiary Institutions in Oyo State as may be reviewed from time to time by the Governing Council.

Police, Cultists Clash in Ogun State

An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Tajudeen Adeleke, and an Inspector, Babatunde Olayiwola, have been injured during a clash between some cultists and men of the Ogun State Police Command.

Four of the cultists, suspected to be notorious land grabbers, were arrested after unleashing violence on the people of Babaode-Onibuku community in the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, the suspects — Najimu Ojumola, Monday Olaleye, Kehinde Martins, and Felix John — were arrested after invading the village with weapons and holding residents hostage.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by policemen at the Onipanu divisional headquarters that Babaode-Onibuku village was under siege by a group of land grabbers.

The PPRO said, “Upon the distress call, the Onipanu DPO, CSP Bamidele Job, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene for a rescue operation.

“On getting to the scene, the hoodlums launched an attack on the policemen and injured one ASP Tajudeen Adeleke and Inspector Babatunde Olayiwola, but they were later subdued. Two among them, Najimu Ojumola and Monday Olaleye, were apprehended.

“While the policemen were taking the hoodlums to the station, their colleagues ambushed them at Idiroko road, and attacked them with a view to freeing the suspects. They were dispatched and the duo of Felix John and Kehinde Martins were equally arrested.

“Recovered from them were eight expended cartridges, one live cartridge, one cutlass, three Bajaj motorcycles and one Toyota Corolla, with number plate, FST 42 FT.”

The PPRO, however, said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation. ,,

Insecurity: Reps Speaker, Gbajabiamila Wants Nigerians Put Ethno-Religious Differences Aside

As Nigeria is battling with security challenges, from insurgency to kidnapping and banditry, the both legislative houses have convened a security summit where all stakeholders gathered to chart a way forward in solving the menace of security challenges bedevelling Nigeria as a nation.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has called for joint efforts by the government and all Nigerians to overcome the rising insecurity in the country.

He said to achieve this, ethnoreligious differences and other factors that often divide Nigerians must be put aside for the urgency of safeguarding the nation.

Gbajabiamila was speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the opening of a ‘Special Summit on National Security’ organised by the House of Representatives.

The summit, organized as part of the Green Chamber’s response to the country’s security challenges, was to provide a platform for discussions by security stakeholders and other Nigerians in order to make far-reaching recommendations to the Executive arm of government.

Gbajabiamila noted that the country was under attack by insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements, which called for a united and coordinated security approach to contain.

He said at a time when insecurity threatened the authority of the state and foundations of Nigeria’s nationhood, and when the activities of insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminals “impede our efforts at progress and prosperity, we must confront the realisation that our previous and current approaches to addressing the challenges of insecurity have not yielded the desired results.”

He stated, “Ladies and gentlemen, we are a nation under attack. Our victory in this present battle depends greatly on our ability to set aside our differences and mobilise in one accord against an impending catastrophe that threatens all of us regardless of language, religion, politics, or status.

“It may well be that it is in the crucible of this battle for survival that we become a nation fully formed. Therefore, we must rise to the moment with passion and perspective.

“We hope for peace and desire its benefits. Yet, neither fervent hope nor heartfelt desire will suffice because the ends of peace require action.”

The speaker added that it would be difficult for the country to attain the peace it desired for development to take place if the present security situation remained unresolved.

“Let us, in this defining moment, work together to pursue the things that make for peace. Let us dedicate ourselves to ending violence, and disorder in our land, and to improving the quality of life for all our nation’s people.

“Let us work together to uphold the honour and glory of Nigeria, and free our nation to be a place of peace and justice forevermore”, Gbajabiamila said.

He explained that the security summit was organized as part of the legislative responsibility of making laws for the good governance of the country.

The speaker noted that achieving this also required citizens’ engagement and participation to get things done the right way for maximum results.

“We have convened this Special Summit on National Security to jointly, as citizens and public servants, find solutions to the problem of insecurity in our country.

“We are here because we know that our national ambitions will not be attained without lasting peace and security. We are here to have honest conversations about where we are, how we got here, and the hard choices we must make to guarantee a secure future for all our nation’s children”, Gbajabiamila added.

The speaker, who thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting the summit, disclosed that the President had assured him that the recommendations of the summit would be given due attention and implementation.

Buhari, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustafa, commended the initiative of Mr Speaker and the House in organising the summit, describing it as timely.

The President aligned with the position of Gbajabiamila on how to tackle insecurity, admitting that it remained the “responsibility of all Nigerians in and out of government” to address the challenges.

The President also urged participants to set aside ethnic, political, religious, and other considerations in the national interest to speak frankly on the security challenges and the solutions.

Buhari called on the Legislature to use the opportunity provided by the summit to pass more laws to enhance the operations of national security agencies.

The President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, in his goodwill message, urged both the Legislative and Executive arms of government to work more closely together by ensuring that recommendations from sessions such as the summit were implemented.

Lawan, who said the Armed Forces needed improved funding, told the session that the National Assembly was ready at all times to partner security agencies in addressing their operational challenges.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar; the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; the Obi of Obinugwu, His Royal Majesty, Eze (Dr) Cletus Ikechukwu Ilomuanya, among others, also delivered goodwill messages.

Lagos Seals Off Chinese Firm Over Teenager’s Death

The Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed off a manufacturing firm, Mingy Trading Company Limited, for allegedly violating safety precautions in its operations.

The decision to shut the firm followed PUNCH Metro’s report that 17-year-old Babatunde Abdulrahmon lost his life in an industrial accident on the day he resumed work at the factory.

The spokesperson for the safety commission, Adewunmi Okoh, said the Director-General for the agency, Lanre Majola, while investigating the circumstances surrounding Abdulrahmon’s death, inspected the company and observed poor housekeeping, lack of safety signage, poor factory layout for emergency management, very poor recruitment process with no documented training records, poorly installed electric cables and poor record keeping.

While affirming the government’s commitment to the safety of lives and property of residents of the state, Okoh explained that the DG said on no account should any company employ an underage person to operate a mixer or grinding machine without proper training and use of personal protective equipment.

She stated that the manufacturing company was, therefore, sealed off for violating established safety protocols.

Okoh said, “The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of lives and property of the citizens. This assertion was made by the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, while sealing off the Mingy Trading Company Limited, located at No. 11 Ila Orangun Street, Ijegun-Egba, Satellite Town.

“The action followed a publication in the PUNCH newspaper dated, Thursday, May 20, 2021, tagged: ‘Lagos teenage factory worker killed in industrial accident on resumption day’. Mojola disclosed that the fatality occurred due to violation of safety precautionary measures.

“The victim, one Babatunde Abdulrahmon, 17, was newly employed on the said day and immediately exposed to mechanical and electrical manufacturing equipment without training and provision for personal protective equipment.

“In the process of operating the equipment, he lost his life. There was also very clear evidence of poor housekeeping, lack of safety signage, poor factory layout for emergency management, very poor recruitment process with no documented training records, poorly installed electric cables and poor record keeping.”

Okoh explained that the DG, while condemning the events that led to Abdulrahmon’s death, said any organisation found culpable of violating safety protocols in the state would be dealt with in accordance with extant laws.

She said, “According to him, on no account should any company employ an underage person to operate a mixer or grinding machine without proper training and use of personal protective equipment.

“He reiterated the importance of having a tested electrical wiring system, appropriate safety signage, good housekeeping and a clean environment devoid of infractions and hazards to the lives of workers.

“He implored organisations to value lives above monetary gains and adopt best practices, adding that a culture of safety first should be our individual and collective responsibility.

“He declared zero tolerance for safety violations and warned that punitive measures would be taken against organisations found culpable with an assurance that extant safety laws would be applied.

“He urged members of the public to report incidents and infractions regularly to the Lagos State Safety Commission in a bid to have a safer Lagos for the citizenry.”

Bakers Mull Increase in Bread, Biscuits Prices as Inflation Surges

Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN) has directed its members nationwide to increase prices of bread, biscuits and other items by 30 percent due to devastating economic situation of the country.

The association explained the adjustment in price was as a result of the sudden increase in the costs of production as well as prices of sugar, butter, yeast and flour.

The directive was part of the resolution reached at the end of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the association in Abuja.

National President of the association, Mansur Umar, who read the resolutions explained: “After considering the impact of the skyrocketed prices of baking ingredients/materials, for the survival of our noble business, which is presently bleeding, the association came to the conclusion to adjust our prices by 30 percent.”

It called on the Federal Government to intervene and reverse the high tariff regime imposed by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and streamline regulation by allowing only NAFDAC to regulate bakers.

Besides, the association frowned at the incessant increase in the price of flour as it is forcing its members to close their businesses.

While directing members across the country to increase prices of their products to at least 30 percent to cushion effects of high cost of production, AMBCN called on the Federal Government to take immediate steps towards reducing the high price of flour as it is killing the business.

“The incessant increase of prices of flour and other baking materials is responsible for the decision.

“In the last six months, one truck of flour that we used to buy at less than N6m is now N9m,” the association said in a statement.

Constitutional Amendment: 1999 Constitution is overdue for Review ~ Gov. Akeredolu

As the process of constitution amendment is ongoing in the country, the Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, on Wednesday said it would be better for the country to adopt the 1963 Constitution, which he said contained the principles of true federalism.

The governor, who berated the current 1999 Constitution, noted that the constitution was improper and needed to have been changed before this time.

Akeredolu stated this in his remarks at the opening of the zonal public hearing on the proposed alteration in the provision of the constitution, held in Akure, the state capital.

According to the governor, there was a need to correct the fundamental mistakes that had been made in the past on the existence of the country. He warned that the ongoing process of amendment of the 1999 Constitution must not be taken frivolously.

He said, “The current attempt at constitution amendment should be taken beyond the usual jamboree conceived and executed to arrive at the predetermined result. This country has been experiencing constitution review since 1922 when the colonialists pretended to give a semblance of representation in our affairs.

“The 1946 Richard’s Constitution followed due to agitations of the people who clamoured for more representation. The Macpherson’s of 1951 and Lyttleton’s of 1954 followed the same pattern. The 1958 Conference held in London gave provenance to the Independence Constitution of 1960. The 1963 Constitution retained Regionalism and upheld the principle of autochthony, an organic development of the law using local experiences.

“The republican status of the country was reflected. Each Region had considerable latitude to blossom at her own pace. There was devolution of powers in the true sense of the term. This was the period when even outsiders noticed the potential greatness of the nascent post-colonial country. The major provisions which allowed the three regions which existed before independence were retained in the 1963 Constitution. That remains the best document for a country as heterogeneous as Nigeria.

“It was the best practicable guide towards nationhood. Unfortunately, the military coup of 1966 destroyed that when it abolished regionalism and created the so-called provinces while imposing a unitary system on the country.”

He specifically warned that the exercise must not toe the path of the previous attempts at “tokenism,” saying “the basic law of any country must not be reduced to frivolities reflecting preferred whimsies.”

“It must not be oppressive of the minorities. Its provisions must indeed give teeth to the primary purpose for which the government exists. No provision of the law must not be justiciable as Chapter Two of the current 1999 Constitution seeks to impress on us. All the agitations of the peoples of this country must be looked into with a view to improving the economic power of the average citizens. The best way possible is to allow each region flower in its areas of comparative advantage” the governor implored.

In his own remarks, the Chairman, the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, explained that the ongoing review provides a platform for the people of Nigeria to express their opinions on the “fundamental law that governs our lives through proposals that will lead to the highest good for the greatest number of our people.”

Represented at the hearing by the senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, the chairman said, “No doubt, we are going to have diverse and differing views on the different themes of the exercise. However, the focus for this Committee is how to manage the review exercise in a fair, inclusive, credible, and transparent manner.”

Memoranda were submitted at the public hearing by the representatives of different groups from Ondo, Ekiti, and Osun states.

Some of the areas in the constitution they wanted to be reviewed included, power devolution, state police, gender equality, residency, local government, legislative and judiciary autonomy among .

Tinubu, Akande, Others Visit Buhari Over Military Plane Crash

APC leaders from the South West pay a condolence visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Villa in Abuja on May 25, 2021.

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the South West on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President received the leaders, who came to sympathise with him on the death of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military officers, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

They included APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu; former interim National Chairman of the party, Bisi Akande; and former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba.

Others were former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Alani Akinrinade, and former APC National Vice Chairman (South-West Zone), Pius Akinyelure.

Attahiru, who was appointed as the Chief of Army Staff in January, died in a plane crash in Kaduna on Friday last week alongside 10 other personnel of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force.

They included Brigadier-General MI Abdulkadir, Brigadier-General Olayinka, Brigadier-General Kuliya, Major LA Hayat, Major Hamza, Sergeant Umar, Flight-Lieutenant TO Asaniyi, Flight-Lieutenant AA Olufade, Sergeant Adesina, and ACM Oyedepo.

The remains of the late military personnel were later laid to rest amid tears on Saturday at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.

In honour of the deceased, President Buhari directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast from Monday to Wednesday in all public buildings, facilities, and official residences across the country.

He had also approved Monday as a work-free day for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Oyo Govt Trains Officers On Multi-Linear Budgeting Process

The Oyo State government has hinted on its plans to commence a multi-linear budgeting process by 2022.

The State’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Barr Adeniyi Farinto disclosed this during a one-day capacity building on Budget, Monitoring and Evaluation which was held in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The training, which was for Budget officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State was to evaluate the immediate past budget (2020) and adequately plan towards the coming year’s budget.

Farinto, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Mofoluke Adebiyi, noted that the budgeting process has taken a new dimension in Oyo State.

Barr. Adeniyi said Oyo State was almost rounding off on the preparation of the medium term expenditure framework, from which future annual budgets will be derived.

“This means that the introduction of a multi-linear budget will cater for a three years’ budget which will be reviewed from time to time.

“The budget must be realistic and attainable, Oyo state is the Pace Setters State and this is why all hands must be on deck for the State to catch up with other States ahead and overtake, we must restore the old glory of the State.”

Appreciating Governor Seyi Makinde for opening up the budgeting system and getting the citizens to be involved in the budgeting system preparation, the commissioner explained that the State’s projection is to achieve 75% of the budget implementation.

He noted that no sector can perform without budget and charged the trainees to work diligently to achieve the set target.

At 64, Aregbesola Is A Progressive Deserving Of All Admiration – Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, congratulates former Governor of the State of Osun and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on the occasion of his 64th birthday.

Governor Akeredolu describes Aregbesola as a man whose passion for service is contagious and admirable, particularly with his years of service as commissioner in Lagos State, two-term governor in the state of Osun and now a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Rauf has a remarkable record of simplicity and humility in public service. He is a progressive committed to the service of the country. He is deserving of all admiration.

“As you mark your 64th birthday, I am sure the country still has a lot to gain from your wealth of experience in various areas of public service. We are proud of you and many strides you have recorded in your service to the people of the state and the nation at large,” Governor Akeredolu says.

Arakunrin Akeredolu wishes Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola a very happy birthday while praying that the Almighty Allah will continue to grant him good health, peace and success.

Confusion over South-West APC meeting, Fashola, Aregbesola not invited

Progressives Congress leaders as invitation to the excluded the party’s key stakeholders in the zone.

In the notice of the meeting signed by a former National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, those invited to the meeting included the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; a former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba, Gen. Alani Akinrinade (retd); the Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and the Minister of Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and another party leader, Chief Pius Akinyelure.

Other are the Ondo State Governor,  Rotimi Akeredolu; his Ekiti State counterpart, Kayode Fayemi; Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State; the Osun State Governor,  Adegboyega Oyetola;  Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu of Lagos State and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission,  Alhaji Musiliu Smith.

A chieftain of the party, who confided in one of our correspondents, said he did not understand why the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and his counterpart for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, were not invited to the meeting.

Another top official of the APC, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated, “If two former governors were at the meeting, I expected the ministers to be there. They are key stakeholders too.”

Mr Lani Baderinwa, an aide in charge of Public Communication for Chief Bisi Akande, could not be reached for comment on the matter.

Calls to his line did not go through and the reply to text message sent to him on whether the ministers were invited , was still being expected as of the time of filing this report.

Also, Sola Fasure, an aide to the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, did not respond to text message asking if the ex Osun governor was invited. He did not pick calls to his mobile line as of the time of filing this report.

Similarly, Hakeem Bello, the spokesman for the Minister for Works and Housing could not be reached.

However, one of his former aides in Lagos, who declined to be named, said the minister did not mention about the meeting.

“I cannot say if he was invited or not; he never mention a meeting in Lagos to us,” he said.

But a source the meeting who spoke to one of our correspondents, said there was no hidden agenda in exclusion of some key stakeholders.

He said, “This is just the first in a series of meetings. They were not invited to this one because the issue at hand at the moment is internal.

“This is like foundation laying, they will be invited subsequently. The fact that they were not invited to this one is not to slight anyone.”
