Chief Benedict Akika, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State and the founder of the Omituntun Benedict Foundation (OBF), has been released by his abductors. Akika, who was kidnapped several days ago, was discovered by passersby along Akinyele Road in Oyo State.
Akika, known for his philanthropic efforts and strong support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, was abducted from his residence in Idi Ape, near Olorunda Abba, in Lagelu Local Government Area. His kidnapping had sparked widespread concern and anxiety within the community, particularly among PDP members and residents of Oyo State.
According to sources, Akika was found disoriented but alive along Akinyele Road, a location some distance away from where he was initially kidnapped. Passersby who noticed him on the side of the road alerted local authorities and helped ensure his safety. The circumstances surrounding his release remain unclear, and it is not yet known whether a ransom was paid or if there were any negotiations between his family and the kidnappers.
Reports also suggest that during the abduction, one person was reportedly killed by the assailants, although details surrounding the incident are still emerging. Local law enforcement agencies are expected to provide more information as investigations continue.
The news of Akika’s release has been met with relief and joy by his family, friends, and political associates, many of whom had been actively praying and calling for his safe return. However, the incident has also raised concerns about the increasing insecurity in the region, prompting calls for stronger measures to protect residents and curb the activities of kidnappers.
More details regarding the circumstances of his abduction, the condition of his health, and any statements from Akika or his family are expected to be released soon as investigations and debriefings progress.
