Ile-Ife monarch, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has warned popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to be careful of politicians seeking to hijack his agitations against killer herdsmen in the South West.
The monarch while granting an interview with Arise TV advised Igboho not to take the laws into his hands but to allow constituted authorities to handle the herdsmen menace in the region.
The Ooni, however, commended Igboho for taking on the campaign against herdsmen, adding that He (Igboho) has done well and the world has heard him, but everything should be done in moderation.
He, however, warned him to back down so that government can take over the battle to avoid politicians hijacking the movement.
The monarch said;“Let us be very objective. He (Igboho) is being a mouthpiece for the downtrodden. He came up and everybody is listening now but my advice to him as a traditional ruler is that he needs to be very careful so that the politicians won’t hijack the whole motive from him.
“Igboho has done well and has been praised, but he shouldn’t take laws into his hands.
“We have the governor in the state who is the chief security officer of the state and Mr President has invited him (Makinde).“Let the right authorities do what is right.
Ooni further advised Igboho by saying; “We know that the bandits are everywhere in the country. Igboho should not take laws into his hands. We have laws in Nigeria, and we should follow it. Let the right people chosen do and follow what they are supposed to do,”
When the government shies away from protecting the people and do what she’s supposed to do for the people, the people will have no choice than to protect themselves and do what would make them comfortable for themselves. “Igi ganganran ma gun mi ni oju, okere la ti nyo kuro “.
The government didn’t provide water, the people provide boreholes for themselves, the government didn’t provide security to protect the people from robbers in their localities, the people provide maiguards and vigilantes, the government didn’t provide stable electricity, the people provide generators and solar energies, government schools were not conducive for learning, the people provides private schools while parents contribute money to improve government schools.
Now herders are killing the people, kidnapping them for ransom, maiming and raping them, using their cows to destroy farmlands,.. the people cried out but the government looked at the other side, leave them at the mercies of the rampaging Fulani herders to maim and kill at random.
The people said that enough is enough, if the government wouldn’t protect them they’d protect themselves cos they can’t be sitting ducks forever. They shouted, prayed and fasted, God heard their wailing and suffering…’ He sent a messiah named Sunday Igboho to liberate his people.
Now government is shedding crocodile tears, saying the young man has no right to liberate his people from the killer herdsmen and therefore should be arrested and prosecuted! What kinda rubbish talk was that? What kinda country and leaders do we have here?? Who should be arrested and prosecuted here, the killers, kidnappers, rappers, destroyers of farmlands OR the liberator of his people from the rampaging Fulani herdsmen??
May anyone who is antagonistic to what Sunday Igboho did for his people go BLIND, may their children, children children, and relations all go BLIND… Ashe wa!!!
