Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has challenged President Bola Tinubu to explain why his nephew’s company, Oando Plc, received accelerated approval to buy AGIP and ENI’s onshore assets. Atiku accused the federal government of giving undue advantage to the President’s nephew in the oil deal.

In a statement, Atiku questioned the speedy approval of the Oando deal, while other transactions, such as the Shell/Renaissance deal and the Mobil/Seplat deal, continue to face delays. He described this as “undue and preferential treatment” and alleged that the federal government is mortgaging the country’s national oil assets to vested interests.

Atiku also criticized the House of Representatives for failing to take proper action on the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), which he accused of ignoring the legislature’s directives. He stated that the NNPC’s actions are clear evidence that they are fulfilling the mandate given to them by President Tinubu.

The former Vice President demanded transparency in the oil sector and called on President Tinubu to explain the accelerated approval of the Oando deal. He emphasized that democracy in Nigeria should be for the people, not just the President and his family members.
